    Pharmaceutical formulations based on Bixa orellana L. and Triticum aestivum L.: Innovative alternatives in the control of califorídeos dipterans of domestic animals

    Some members of the Calliphoridae Family are the cause of cutaneous myiasis, a problem of high intensity for domestic animals. Finding tools and alternatives to control them is of great importance. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the pharmaceutical formulations based on oily extract of Bixa orellana L., aqueous and ethanolic extract of Triticum aestivum, on flies of veterinary clinical importance. The use of Bote orellana L. (Bixa orellana L.) and aqueous extracts (Bote orellana L.) was evaluated by means of wind-driven traps (WOT) with positive control (dichlorvos + chlorvenvinphos), negative control (bait only) of Triticum aestivum (GRUPO 1) and oily extract of B. orellana L. and the ethanolic extract of Triticum aestivum (GRUPO 2). Regarding efficacy, no significant difference was demonstrated between the positive control and the two formulations tested, Group 1 and Group 2, and all treatments differed from the negative control (p = 0.000). The collected flies were mainly from the family of the califorids (98%) and smaller ones from the family Muscidae (1,5%) and Fanidae (0,5%). Thus, it is concluded that the formulations containing oily extract of Bixa orellana L. and aqueous extract of Triticum aestivum and the oil extract of B. orellana L. and the ethanolic extract of Triticum aestivum, have high repellency capacity against flies Calliphoridae family, being an alternative to allopathic treatment and to conventional treatments.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESAlguns membros da Família Calliphoridae são causadoras das miíases cutâneas, um problema de elevada intensidade para os animais domésticos. Buscar ferramentas e alternativas de controle das mesmas é de elevada importância. O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a eficácia das formulações farmacêuticas a base de extrato oleoso de Bixa orellana L., extrato aquoso e etanólico de Triticum aestivum , em moscas de importância clínica veterinária. Utilizou-se a metodologia de Broce (1970) através de armadilhas orientadas pelo vento (W.O.T), com controle positivo (diclorvos+clorvenvinfós), controle negativo (somente a isca) e os produtos contendo extrato oleoso de Bixa orellana L. e extrato aquoso de Triticum aestivum (Grupo 1) e extrato oleoso de B. orellana L. e o extrato etanólico de Triticum aestivum (Grupo 2). Em relação a eficácia não foi demonstrada diferença significativa entre o controle positivo, e as duas formulações testadas, GRUPO 1e GRUPO 2, e todos os tratamentos diferiram do controle negativo(p=0,000). As moscas coletadas, foram principalmente da família das califorídeas (98%) e em menor quantidade as da família Muscidae (1,5%) e Fanidae (0,5%). Desta forma conclui-se que as formulações contendo extrato oleoso de Bixa orellana L. e extrato aquoso de Triticum aestivum e a com extrato oleoso de B. orellana L. e o extrato etanólico de Triticum aestivum, tem alta capacidade de repelência frente a moscas da Família Calliphoridae, sendo uma alternativa ao tratamento alopático e para os tratamentos convencionais

    A utilização das plantas na medicina tem uma grande importância no atendimento primário de saúde em todo o mundo. Entretanto, poucas plantas foram validadas do ponto de vista farmacológico, fitoquímico, biológico e principalmente clínico. A Bixa orellana L., popularmente conhecida urucum, é muito utilizada como corante em alimentos, mas suas propriedades terapêuticas não estão bem estabelecidas. O objetivo deste trabalho é avaliar a atividade farmacológica do extrato de Bixa orellana L. in vivo, estudando o provável efeito cicatrizante, e in vitro, avaliando possível a ação antibacteriana contra Staphylococcus aureus e Staphylococcus epidermidis. Serão utilizados 24 ratos Wistar machos, em quatro períodos experimentais com duração de 4, 7, 10 ou 14 dias. Após excisão as feridas serão tratadas com pomada base (controle) ou com a pomada contendo extrato de Bixa orellana L. a 5%, uma vez ao dia. Para o preparo da formulação, foi obtido o extrato etanólico de Bixa orellana L. e o mesmo foi incorporado a pomada base para a realização dos testes de estabilidade preliminares. Os testes preliminares demonstraram estabilidade quanto ao aspecto, cor, odor, consistência e pH na amostra submetida a temperatura de 5ºC. As amostras expostas a temperatura ambiente e de 40ºC apresentaram estabilidade relacionada ao odor. A preparação conservada a 5ºC possui a maior estabilidade comparada às outras, já que foi a única a apresentar todas as características desejadas

    El presente trabajo de titulación tiene como objetivo realizar una Auditoría de Gestión a la Empresa de Servicios Industriales Agama, del cantón Francisco de Orellana, Provincia de Orellana, para el periodo 2015. El trabajo se inició, mediante la aplicación de una encuesta a sus empleados, la premisa de que la realización de dicha auditoría incidiría significativamente en la eficiencia, eficacia y economía de la gestión de la empresa, siendo éste el principal objetivo de su realización. Dentro de la metodología de investigación se han empleado también procesos de observación directa, revisión documental y entrevistas, además de los cuestionarios de evaluación de su control interno, basados en el marco referencial COSO II. En el desarrollo de la auditoría se emplearon papeles de trabajo, a fin de identificar los problemas de gestión de empresa, mediante pruebas sustantivas y de cumplimiento. Como resultado del proceso de evaluación del control interno se pudo concluir que la empresa carece del mismo, por lo cual se detectaron varios inconvenientes en el cumplimiento tanto de objetivos como de obligaciones contraídas con terceros. Finalmente, como resultado del proceso de auditoría, la autora emitió un informe en el cual se incluyeron sus hallazgos y recomendaciones técnicas. Entre los hallazgos más representativos se encuentran: ineficiente administración estratégica, incumplimiento de contratos e ineficientes procesos de contratación. Se sugirió a la gerencia de la empresa aplicar las recomendaciones planteadas, a fin de mejorar sus indicadores de gestión.The current degree work has like objective to carry out a Management Audit to the Industrial Services Company Agama, from Canton Francisco de Orellana, Orellana Province in 2015. The work began with the application of a survey to its employees, the premise of carrying out such audit will influence meaningful on the effectiveness, efficiency, and economy of Management Company, being this the principal objective of its realizing. Into the investigation methodology, processes of direct observation were applied, documentary revision and interviews, besides the evaluation questionnaires from its internal control, based on the referential framework COSO II. In the audit development, working papers were applied in order to identify the problems of the management company, by substantive and of fulfilment tests. Like the result of the evaluation process of internal control, it is concluded that the company lacks the same, and various inconveniences were detected in the fulfilment not only of objectives but also undertaken obligations with thirds. Finally, as the result of the Audit process, the author included a report in which some findings and technical recommendations were included. In the most representatives, findings are found inefficient strategical administration, contracts unfulfillment, and inefficient hiring processes. It was suggested to the Company management applying the recommendations made in order to improve its management indicators

    O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos da infusao das semetes de urucum (Bixa orellana Linne) nas taxas plasmaticas de colesterol total, LDL, VLDL,HDL e triglicerideos, e com isso, verificar seu potencial hipolipidemico e hipocolesterolemico. Foram selecionados 10 pacientes do sexo feminino, com idade media de 60,4 + ou - 4,7 anos, todas provinientes de um ambulatorio de Nutricao e Cardiologia de um hospital publico de Fortaleza, e todas apresentando hipercolesterolemia e outros fatores de risco para aterosclerose. Alem das taxas lipidicas, foram dosadas tambem taxas de glicose, acido urico, creatinina, urea, TGO e TGP a fim de se avaliar o potencial de toxicidade da infusao. As pacientes tomaram diariamente, durante quatro meses, a infusao das semetes de urucum e, mesalmente, eram reavaliadas atraves de exames bioquimicos e consultas com a nutricionista e a cardiologista. A analise estatistica foi realizada atraves do teste ANOVA para as taxas de colesterol total, HDL,LDL,VLDL, triglicerideos, glicose, acido urico, urea, creatinina, TGO, TGP, peso e IMC. O teste Turkey-Kramer foi usado nas variaveis peso, IMC, colesterol total, HDL, VLDL, LDL, triglicerideos e glicose. Observou-se que a infusao reduziu significativamente as taxas de colesterol total (327,00 = ou - 37,95 mg/dL para 137,60 + ou - 14,01 mg/dL), LDL (232,55 +ou - 50,56 mg/dL para 12,79 mg/dL para 75,50 + ou - 4,40 mg/dL) e que nao provocou efeito adversos ou colaterais clinicamente ou laboratorialmente detectaveis. Com o uso da infusao das sementes de B. orellana nao houve alteracao estatisticamente significativa para as variaveis HDL (51,50 + ou - 12,93 mg/dL para 53,10 + ou - 12,93 mg/dL para 53,10 + ou - 4,28 mg/dL), peso (58,70 + ou - 8,79kg para 57,46 + ou - 7,85kg), IMC (26,68 + ou - 3,70 para 26,11 + ou - 3,34) acido urico (2,88 + ou - 1,22 mg?dL para 2,78 + ou - 1,15 mg/dL), creatinina (0,66 + ou - 0,15 mg/dL para 0,68 + ou - 009 mg/dL), urea (24,10 + ou - 7,66 mg/dL para 24,00 + ou - 6,20 mg/dL), TGO (12,50 + ou - 8,67U/mL para 10,70 + ou - 6,76 U/mL) e TGP (10,70 + ou - 6,76 U/mL) e TGP (10,70 + ou - 7,33 U/mL para 9,30 + ou -5,01 U/mL).Tais resultados sugerem que a infusao das sementes de urucum possui potencial hipocolesterolemico e hipolipidemico, e que nao provocou efeitos toxicos nas pacientes. No entanto, mais estudos devem ser feitos de que ouso da infusao das sementes de urucum possa ser estendido com mais seguranca a mais pacientes, inclusive os portadores de outras patologias de base, tais como diabetes, nefropatias, hepatopatias e SIDA

    Photomorphogenic Effects on the In Vitro Development of Bixa orellana L.

    Bixa orellana, commonly known as annatto, is a plant whose seeds are used as a source of food colorants and in traditional medicine. This study evaluated the effect of light quality on the morphophysiology of B. orellana germinated and cultivated in vitro under different WPM medium proportions and hormonal concentrations. The experiments were conducted at the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory of the Federal University of Uberlândia. To overcome seed dormancy, four treatments were applied (sulfuric acid, gibberellic acid, a combination of both, and a control), and the seeds were cultivated on standard medium under white, blue, and red LED light. During seedling development, media containing 0%, 25%, 75%, and 100% of the standard WPM nutrient concentration were used, and chlorophyll content, root length, seedling height, and number of leaves were evaluated. Callus induction was performed using hypocotyl explants cultivated under different equimolar concentrations of cytokinin (6-benzylaminopurine) and auxins (naphthaleneacetic acid or 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid) under each light condition, with evaluations based on developmental stage, fresh and dry mass. The results indicate that sulfuric acid treatment was effective in overcoming dormancy. White light promoted better morphophysiological development of seedlings and calli, and the 100% WPM medium proved superior for photosynthetic pigment biosynthesis. The combinations of 6-benzylaminopurine and naphthaleneacetic acid were more effective in callus development. Therefore, it is concluded that light quality, medium composition, hormonal concentrations, and the method of dormancy breaking influence the in vitro cultivation of annatto.Pesquisa sem auxílio de agências de fomentoTrabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação)Bixa orellana, popular urucum, é uma planta cujas sementes são utilizadas como fonte de corantes alimentares e na medicina tradicional. Este estudo avaliou o efeito da qualidade da luz sobre a morfofisiologia de B. orellana germinada e cultivada in vitro, em diferentes proporções do meio WPM e concentrações hormonais. Os experimentos foram conduzidos no Laboratório de Cultura de Tecidos Vegetais, da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia. Para a superação da dormência, as sementes foram submetidas a quatro tratamentos (ácido sulfúrico, ácido giberélico, combinação de ambos e controle) e cultivadas em meio padrão sob luz LED branca, azul e vermelha. No desenvolvimento das plântulas, utilizaram-se meios contendo 0%, 25%, 75% e 100% de nutrientes da concentração padrão do meio WPM, avaliando-se teores de clorofilas, comprimento radicular, altura de plântula e número de folhas. A indução de calos foi realizada com explantes hipocotilares cultivados sob diferentes concentrações equimolares de citocinina (6-benzilaminopurina) e auxinas (ácido naftalenoacético ou ácido 2,4- diclorofenoxiacético), sob cada tipo de luz, sendo avaliador pelo estágio de desenvolvimento, massa fresca e seca. Os resultados indicam que o tratamento com ácido sulfúrico foi eficaz para superação de dormência. A luz branca favoreceu o desenvolvimento morfofisiológico de plântulas e calos, e o meio WPM 100% mostrou-se superior para biossíntese de pigmentos fotossintéticos. As combinações de 6-benzilaminopurina e ácido naftalenoacético mostraram-se mais eficazes no desenvolvimento de calos. Portanto, conclui-se que a qualidade da luz, a composição do meio, as concentrações hormonais e o método de superação da dormência influenciam o cultivo in vitro de urucum.2027-05-1

    Bixa orellana L. pods and seeds: nutritional and chemical characterization, bioactivity studies, and development of a carotenoid-based food colorant

    Bixa orellana L. is worldwide known as a source of bixin, a carotenoid compound with high colorant capacity [1]. The growing tendency in the food industry to use new and safer colorant compounds with higher stability coupled to the high demand of consumers concern, became of the upmost importance. Moreover, sustainable extraction technologies coupled with greener solvents are increasingly required to maximize the recovery of high added value compounds [2]. The present work intended to deepen the study of the nutritional and chemical profile and bioactive potential of B. orellana seeds. Furthermore, to maximize the extraction of bixin from seeds ultrasound-assisted technologies combined with RSM were used. As an externality of this work, the pods of this plant (bio-residues resulting from the processing of seeds) were also studied, in relation to its bioactive properties and profile in phenolic compounds. The most abundant macronutrients found in seeds were carbohydrates, followed by fat, proteins, and ash. Sucrose and trehalose were the only sugars found; and malic acid and α-tocopherol were the main organic acid and tocopherols present, respectively. Monounsaturated fatty acids (eicosenoic acid) were found in higher amounts. Pods hydroethanolic extract presented lower IC50 values for antioxidant activity; while seeds sample revealed lower IC50 values for Δt = 60 min and Δt = 120 min for OxHLIA assay, and lower GI50 values for cytotoxic and hepatotoxic assays. Both samples presented lower MIC, MBC, and MFC in comparison to the two positive controls, against all bacterial and fungal strains. Pods presented the highest amounts of phenolic compounds (due to protocatechuic acid). The model developed for the extraction process was validated, with optimal processing conditions (sonication - 348 W, 6 min, 79 % (v/v) ethanol), being possible to obtain 27.1 mg of bixin per g of extract. Overall, this study allowed to present innovative results in relation to the nutritional, chemical and bioactive properties of the seeds, and as an externality the great potential of the pods regarding its biological activity.
