Modelling risk adaptation and mitigation behaviour under different climate change scenarios
Get PDFThe main objective of this study is to simulate household choice behavior under varying climate change scenarios using choice experiments. Economic welfare measures are derived for society’s willingness to pay (WTP) to reduce climate change induced flood risks through private insurance and willingness to accept compensation (WTAC) for controlled flooding under varying future risk exposure levels. Material flood damage and loss of life are covered in the insurance policy experiment, while the WTAC experiment also captures the economic value of immaterial flood damage such as feelings of discomfort, fear and social disruption. The results show that WTP and WTAC are substantial, suggesting a more prominent role of external social damage costs in cost-benefit analysis of climate change and flood mitigation policies

Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in rat forebrain that bind ¹⁸F-nifene: relating PET imaging, autoradiography, and behavior
No full textNicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) in the brain are important for cognitive function; however, their specific role in relevant brain regions remains unclear. In this study, we used the novel compound ¹⁸F-nifene to examine the distribution of nAChRs in the rat forebrain, and for individual animals related the results to behavioral performance on an auditory-cognitive task. We first show negligible binding of ¹⁸F-nifene in mice lacking the β2 nAChR subunit, consistent with previous findings that ¹⁸F-nifene binds to α4β2* nAChRs. We then examined the distribution of ¹⁸F-nifene in rat using three methods: in vivo PET, ex vivo PET and autoradiography. Generally, ¹⁸F-nifene labeled forebrain regions known to contain nAChRs, and the three methods produced similar relative binding among regions. Importantly, ¹⁸F-nifene also labeled some white matter (myelinated axon) tracts, most prominently in the temporal subcortical region that contains the auditory thalamocortical pathway. Finally, we related ¹⁸F-nifene binding in several forebrain regions to each animal's performance on an auditory-cued, active avoidance task. The strongest correlations with performance after 14 days training were found for ¹⁸F-nifene binding in the temporal subcortical white matter, subiculum, and medial frontal cortex (correlation coefficients, r > 0.8); there was no correlation with binding in the auditory thalamus or auditory cortex. Archeologisch bureauonderzoek en Inventariserend veldonderzoek – verkennende fase Hekstraat 15 te Beilen, gemeente Midden-Drenthe (DR)
No full textLaagland Archeologie heeft in februari 2019 een Archeologisch bureauonderzoek en verkennend booronderzoek uitgevoerd aan de Hekstraat 15 te Beilen. Het onderzoek vond plaats in verband met de ruimtelijke procedure vanwege het voornemen op het terrein een nieuwe supermarkt met parkeerterrein te realiseren.
Het bureauonderzoek had tot doel een archeologisch verwachtingsmodel op te stellen. Hiertoe zijn een aantal onderzoeksvragen opgesteld (zie paragraaf 1.66). Het opgestelde verwachtingsmodel is getoetst door middel van zes verkennende boringen. Deze boringen zijn verspreid over de toegankelijke delen van het plangebied gezet. Deze strategie wordt voldoende geacht om de archeologische potentie van het plangebied in kaart te brengen.
Op basis van het bureauonderzoek werden met name resten verwacht uit de Late Middeleeuwen - Nieuwe tijd. Voor resten uit de periode Neolithicum – Vroege Middeleeuwen geldt een lage verwachting.
Uit het booronderzoek blijkt dat de bodem in bijna alle boringen tot in de C-horizont is verstoord. In één boring is een restant van een mogelijk esdek aangetroffen. Deze boring is gezet op het deel van het plangebied dat momenteel in gebruik is als parkeerterrein. In de nieuwe situatie blijft deze gebruiksfunctie gehandhaafd. De bodemverstoring zal in dit deel van het plangebied waarschijnlijk niet tot deze diepte reiken.
Op basis van de resultaten van het veldonderzoek wordt geadviseerd geen archeologisch vervolgonderzoek in het plangebied uit te voeren. De implementatie van dit advies is in handen van de bevoegde overheid, de gemeente Midden-Drenthe. De gemeente wordt hierin vertegenwoordigd door haar deskundige, mevrouw M. Montforts
