Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Full text linkSexuell übertragbare Infektionen (STI) können zur Beeinträchtigung der sexuellen Gesundheit führen, daher sind eine frühzeitige Diagnose und Behandlung wichtig. Der öffentliche Gesundheitsdienst (ÖGD) sollte laut Infektionsschutzgesetz (IfSG) ein STI-Testangebot für vulnerable Gruppen vorhalten. Außer HIV und Syphilis besteht für STI keine gesetzliche Meldepflicht, deswegen mussten zusätzliche STI-Surveillance-Systeme entwickelt werden.
Die erste Arbeit fokussierte sich auf den Zugang zu HIV/STI-Versorgungsangeboten im ÖGD. In einer Befragung der HIV/STI-Beratungsstellen wurden aufsuchende Arbeit, Hepatitis B-Impfungen, Tests auf Hepatitis und STI, sowie gynäkologische Untersuchungen nur von einigen HIV/STI-Beratungsstellen angeboten, häufiger in Stadt- als in Landkreisen. Bei der zweiten Arbeit wurden aggregierte Daten der HIV/STI-Beratungsstellen zu den Testangeboten, STI-Tests und Testergebnissen für Sexarbeiterinnen erhoben. In knapp 10.000 Beratungen wurden diese am häufigsten auf Gonorrhö getestet, gefolgt von HIV, Chlamydien und Syphilis, mit einem Positivenanteil von 3,1 %. Je nach HIV/STI-Beratungsstelle schwankte der Anteil der positiven Testergebnisse stark. In der dritten Arbeit wurden Klient/innen, die in Gesundheitsämtern zum HIV-Test kamen, auf Chlamydien untersucht. Die Punktprävalenz der Chlamydien-Infektionen betrug 5,3 %, die höchste Prä-valenz wurde bei 18-24-jährigen Frauen und heterosexuellen Männern beobachtet. Über drei Viertel der positiv getesteten Teilnehmenden waren asymptomatisch. Bei Frauen waren junges Alter, Anzahl der Partner und Migrationshintergrund mit einer Infektion assoziiert, bei heterosexuellen Männern junges Alter.
Im zweiten Teil der vorgestellten Arbeiten ging es um die Surveillance von STI. Wir entwickelten ein Sentinel-System, um neben den STI-Erkrankungszahlen Daten zum sexuellen Verhalten zu sammeln. Wir rekrutierten über 200 HIV/STI-Beratungsstellen der Gesundheitsämter, Klinik-Ambulanzen und Arztpraxen. Innerhalb des ersten Jahres wurden 1833 STI erfasst, das beinhaltete 11 % der gemeldeten Syphilis- und 16 % der HIV-Diagnosen. In der zweiten Arbeit berichten wir über den Aufbau eines Laborsentinels für Chlamydien, um das Chlamydien-Screening für unter 25-jährigen Frauen zu evaluieren und die epidemiologische Situation von Chlamydien einzuschätzen. Zwischen den Jahren 2008-2014 wurden knapp 3,9 Millionen Chlamydien-Tests berichtet, mit einem Positivenanteil von 3,9 % (Frauen) und 11,0 % (Männern). Die höchsten Positivenanteile wurden bei 15-24-jährigen schwangeren Frauen beobachtet, beim Screening für Frauen unter 25 Jahren betrugen sie 5 %. In der dritten Arbeit wird das Gonokokken-Resistenz-Netzwerk (GORENET) beschrieben, anhand dessen Trends der antimikrobiellen Resistenz von N. gonorrhoeae gemessen werden. Teilnehmende Labore sendeten Daten zu Resistenzen an das RKI sowie Gonokokken-Isolate an das Konsiliarlabor. Zwischen April 2014 und Dezember 2015 waren von 537 nachgetesteten Isolaten kein Isolat resistent gegen Ceftriaxon, 1,9 % (2014) und 1,4 % (2015) resistent gegen Cefixim, 11,9 % und 9,8 % gegen Azithromycin.
Die vorliegenden Arbeiten zeigen, dass die HIV/STI-Beratungsstellen der Gesundheitsämter mehrheitlich unter den Möglichkeiten geblieben sind, die der gesetzliche Rahmen vorsieht. Es gab in den HIV/STI-Beratungsstellen kein standardisiertes Testangebot, was möglicherweise auf mangelnde Ressourcen zurückzuführen ist. So wurden häufig keine Chlamydien-Tests angeboten, obwohl die Prävalenz in jüngeren Altersgruppen hoch ist. Trotz hohem Bedarf gibt es in Deutschland keine etablierte Versorgungsstruktur für Belange sexueller Gesundheit. So bleiben viele STI unentdeckt und können unbehandelt sowohl zu Komplikationen führen als auch weitergegeben werden.
Nach der Einführung des IfSG stellte die STI-Surveillance eine besondere Herausforderung dar. Es wurden Sentinels aufgebaut, die im Vergleich zur Meldepflicht einerseits die Möglichkeit bieten, Informationen zum sexuellen Verhalten oder zur Anzahl der durchgeführten Tests zu erfassen. Andererseits ist es sehr schwierig, mittels eines Sentinel-Systems repräsentative Daten zu erheben. Mit GORENET konnte eine Surveillance aufgebaut werden, die nur einen Bruchteil der resistenten Gonokokken in Deutschland abdeckt. Mit der Einführung der elektronischen Meldesystems DEMIS innerhalb der nächsten Jahre könnte eine neue Basis für die STI-Surveillance geschaffen werden. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
