Designing adaptive reuse strategies for cultural heritage with choice experiments

    No full text
The introduction of the sustainable development concept in the field of cultural heritage preservation has led relevant changes to traditional interventions on historical buildings and areas. Although the idea of reusing cultural heritage is not new, the emerging concept of adaptive reuse stresses even more the importance of a holistic approach for addressing successful interventions. Selecting among the potential uses the one that could ensure the preservation of physical characters as well as intangible values, fueling economic development, is a challenging policy and design issue. In this context, this paper proposes the use of Choice Experiments to support the design of adaptive reuse strategies for three mostly unused castles in Northern Italy characterized by different states of conservation, accessibility and surrounding territorial contex

    No full text
This essay will consist of a critical reading of Per diverse ragioni, the latest collection by the poet Domenico Brancale published in 2017 for Passigli. Through a transversal reading of the poetic text, the main thematic and poetic issues of the author will be analyzed. A second point of interest will be the deepening of the ontological framework and of the conceptual meanings of the collection, and it will be connected to an investigation relating to its formal and philosophical-speculative derivations

Assessing urban quality: a proposal for a MCDA evaluation framework

    No full text
The paper focuses on the assessment of urban design quality and sustainable urban spaces. In particular, the study is concentrated on the evaluation of urban quality provided by a good design of open spaces, including green areas, walkable areas and squares. In fact, despite the advancement of research during the past two decades and empirical evidence about the relationship among quality of life, quality of open spaces and urban sustainability, there is still a lack of studies on urban quality assessment. This paper brings forward a multidimensional methodology for assessing the quality of open spaces. More precisely, the contribution of this research is the proposal of a multidimensional and multi-methodological framework for assigning a numerical score to the quality of open spaces. The Multi-Attribute Value Theory has been used for addressing the problem under investigation with the aim of defining a synthetic index for the measurement of the urban quality of open spaces on the basis of different attributes, namely (a) accessibility; (b) liveability; (c) vitality and (d) identity. The methodology has been applied on a recently renovated district in the city of Milan, Italy. The proposed multi-methodological framework provides a robust basis for running different kind of analysis and for supporting policy and investment decisions both in the private and in the public sector

«Sola nel letto di me stessa» Osservazioni sulla poetica di Biancamaria Frabotta ne "La materia prima"

    No full text
This essay focuses on the poetic conception of Biancamaria Frabotta in the collection La materia prima. The literature dedicated to Frabotta’s poetry is to date very wide. However, no studies on the collection have been produced to date. In order to offer an unprecedented insight into Frabotta’s poetic work, the purpose of this study is to perform a study of the textual corpus, approached through a philosophical critical methodology of analysis. Such analysis will be divided into three paragraphs and will focus on the issues raised by the ontological and aesthetical centrality of the figure of the animal, the metaphysical conception of the poet and the theoretical compositional component. The study will provide a new epistemological reading of the second-last poetry collection of Frabotta, which will also allow for a deeper understanding of her work. A new contribution will thus enrich the critical literature on the author both in the sense of the methodology and of the research focus

There is some evidence that acquired or hereditary prothrombotic disorders are risk factors for LST. The aim of this work was to evaluate the role of thrombotic screening, anticoagulant therapy or prophylaxis in patients with either acute or chronic otitis media and LST. The medical records of five children hospitalized at Pediatric Hospital Bambino Gesu of Rome because of acute or chronic otitis media complicated by mastoiditis and LST were reviewed. All children underwent laboratory workup for hypercoagulability. All the five children were found to be heterozygote for the C677T MTHFR mutation and a child presented also heterozygosity for factor V Leiden mutation. They have been successfully treated with anticoagulant therapy without sequels. Children with acute or chronic otitis media may have a prothrombotic tendency that becomes clinically evident because of the inflammatory state. Patients with a family and/or personal history of thrombosis and/or thrombophilic conditions need anticoagulant prophylaxis also in the absence of clear signs of LST. Treatment with low molecular weight is successful in patients with LST. Blood Coagul Fibrinolysis 23:158-163 (C) 2012 Wolters Kluwer Health vertical bar Lippincott Williams & Wilkins
