Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Dissection of the V3-V4 due to whiplash injury: Description of a non-fatal case
Whiplash injuries, a common sequel of road traffic accidents, may be defined as a musculo-ligamentous sprain resulting from forced acceleration/deceleration and flexion/ extension neck injury. We report a non-fatal case of vertebral right artery dissection after a minor rear-lateral collision. The injury was detected twenty-four days after trauma when a computerized tomography (CT) scan and cerebral angiography revealed multiple ischemic lesions of the right cerebellum. Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) has been the most sensitive imaging modality to describe the types and degree of vascular injury. The accuracy of such imaging allows linking several injuries with minor car crash avoiding patients seeking litigation for correct financial compensation
Galenic formulations in children for rare diseases or to call for a different pharmaceutical form from those on the market: Data collection and statistical study
The dosage and route of administration are the two key points in the planning of therapy designed for a child who needs medication appropriate to his/her physiological characteristics, that are different compared to the adults. The "pediatric clinic Galen" is a valid tool for ensuring a highly personalized treatment in and out of hospital. A formulation must, where possible, be adapted to the patient, while guaranteeing the quality, safety and efficacy of the preparation, a good palatability and a "reasonable" period of validity, but it also must be designed in such a way as to facilitate the adult administering the child without forgetting the young patient's compliance, and enable them to give the right dosage, without making easy unintentional mistakes. From 2009 to 2014, at the galenic laboratory of Versilia Hospital pharmacy, galenic formulations were prepared for about 225 children, to treat acute diseases such as gastroesophageal reflux, or follow a chronic therapy, for example in case of metabolic deficiencies, or rare syndromes. What has been performed is a retrospective statistical study of requirements and activity of the service and a collection of users and operators' feedback to determine the social impact
Efficacy of fidaxomicin therapy, after failure of vancomycin therapy, for treating a C. difficile colitis in a patient with ulcerative colitis
Patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) have greater risk of developing C. difficile infection (CDI). In these patients, CDI have worse outcome, may be associated with increased risk of bacteremia and candidemia and may be misdiagnosed as relapse of IBD, also because of the absence of typical findings of CDI at colonoscopy. A 58-year-old man with acute ulcerative colitis treated with steroids was hospitalized for fever and recrudescence of inflammatory diarrhea. During the hospitalization, the fever was treated with broad spectrum antibiotics and systemic anti-fungal therapy. Candida mannan antigen and the molecular screening for C. difficile resulted positive. A first course of vancomycin by mouth was unsuccessful, therefore we started a 10-day course of fidaxomicin. After five days of therapy, diarrhea disappeared. A few-week course of fluconazole therapy was performed to complete the treatment of invasive candidiasis. At six-month follow-up no relapse of CDI was documented
Packet-Optical Transport for Vertical Services in the Path to 6G
5G evolution and 6G networks will have a crucial role in supporting the acceleration of industrial digitalization and new applications such as cloud robotics and remote-Assisted surgery. The goal is to support differentiated quality of services including the critical ones, without increasing the cost/revenue ratio for network operators. The transport network plays a crucial role in supporting the physical connections of the interfaces of a mobile 3GPP network, including the interfaces between the Radio Access Network (RAN) and the Core Network (CN) and within the RAN itself. Here, optical technologies can play an essential role by providing challenging E2E QoS for vertical industries. The main challenge is to guarantee E2E QoS while avoiding over-provisioning on network resources. The use of a combination of packet and optical technologies, supported by AI-based orchestration mechanisms, can provide flexibility, and dynamically optimize the use of network resources. A specific case study was investigated and assessed through a pilot in the context of the H2020 5Growth project
La presa in carico nel sistema sanitario lombardo

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
