Applying neural network by classifying images of high spatial resolution and laser
scanner data, using an approach to oriented region
Abstract
Remote sensing digital image classification has been recognized, in the
last decades, as a technique for thematic maping. Today, new sensors, with
enhanced spatial resolution, are available in the market, increasing the potential use
of satellite images. However, the new images demand new analysis techniques,
because they are richer in details, which should facilitate the identification of
objects, based on its spectral and spatial properties. At the same time, other spatial
data are being collected from airborne sensors, as laser scanner data. The altimetric
information represents a special characteristic of the objects present on the earth´s
surface, its elevation, which turns them a valuable information for the analysis of
remote sensing images.
The present study focuses on the integration of laser scanner data and remote
sensing images with high spatial resolution, Quickbird imagery, for urban mapping.
For this urpose, a region oriented aproach is proposed.Initially, the gain obtained
with the use of laser scanner is compared to the gain that results using of spatial
parameters in the classification process. For this urtose, the separability of the
classes was analysed and selected samles were classified. The experiments proved
that the contribution of laser scanner data is larger than that attributed to spatial
paremeters, form parameters. In a second step, the use of artificial neural nets as a
tool for the integration of spectral and spatial data was evaluated. This methodology
prooved to be more efficient than other traditional approaches. The use of neural
nets and laser scanner data increased the quality of the thematic map in areas where
spectral information is not enough to discriminate different objects

3D reconstruction of building using Laser Scanner data airborne
A building can be reconstructed from its roof, which can be defined by someparameters like orientation, height, ridges and contours. In many models forbuilding extraction, using Laser scanner raw data, plants are requested to accomplish the precise location of building contours. The purpose of this study is topresent a method for building reconstruction using Laser scanner data. For this, the2D Hough transform is applied to the Laser data, represented as a raster image, tofind the borders of the roof. Then, the planes that model the roof are estimated andthe form of the roof is derived. The method proved to be efficient in buildingmodeling. In the pre-processing step, the Hough transform and thinning were usedto estimate the borders of the buildings. The method to find the planes of the roof iseffective and consists of looking for three points that define each plane of the roof. The ridge lines are got by intersecting these planes
Integrated Use Of Spatial High Resolution Image And Laser Scanner Derived
Hight Classificator Oriented To Region To Choose
Abstract
In this article, the results of a research about the integration of height derived from a
laser scanner measurement with high resolution spatial sattelite image are
presented, QUICKBIRD II, for the tematic mapping of urban areas. This research is
justified, for so as not to suffice the use of orbital images, to distinguish the associated objects to the urban area mapping, in a semi-automatic way, one needs
the inclusion of other auxiliary information. Therefore, it is proposed a metodology
oriented to a regional analysis in the image. The gain obtained with the laser
scanner derived height inclusion is compared to the resulting gain obtained from the
use of spatial parameters derived from the images, through the use an artificial
neural network classification algorithm (ANN) and usual classifiers (maximum
likelihood and minimum distance). The results show that the altimetry information
contribution is very useful in building, road and vegetation classification. From the
tested algorithms, the use of an ANN including information of height derived from
a laser scanner was the one which got the best results
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
