A caminho do mar: a experiência da modernidade na Bossa Nova
No full textTese (doutorado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Literatura, Florianópolis, 2014Tese de doutorado que almeja realizar uma compreensão da poética da Bossa Nova tomando como objeto de estudo algumas das principais canções deste movimento estético-musical, dando-se ênfase às teorias culturais de Walter Benjamin e de seus mediadores contemporâneos em torno do seu conceito de experiência. A hipótese central da pesquisa é entender o etos do sujeito lírico da Bossa Nova como indício de uma experiência em transição decorrente da modernização da vida e da cultura nacional de meados do século XX. Portanto, pretende-se entender a experiência da modernidade do etos da Bossa Nova em um campo de forças tensionado mutuamente pela transformação da experiência autêntica (a Erfahrung) e pela vivência do mundo moderno (a Erlebnis), cujo sujeito poético usufrui de uma singular sociabilidade praiana na Zona Sul do Rio de Janeiro, nos anos 1950 e o início da década de 1960, entre a intimidade dialógica da vida privada e a fruição contemplativa da paisagem à beira-mar: sua boemia solar.Abstract: Doctorate thesis that seeks to arrive at an understanding of the poetics of Bossa Nova taking as a subject of study some of the principal songs of this aesthetic-musical movement and placing emphasis on the cultural theories of Walter Benjamin and his contemporary mediators based on his concept of experience. The central hypothesis of this research is to understand the ethos of lyrical subject matter in Bossa Nova as indicative of a transitory experience of the modernisation of national life and culture in the mid-twentieth century. The intention, therefore, is to understand the experience of the modernity of the ethos of Bossa Nova within a field of forces mutually tensioned by the transformation of authentic experience (Erfahrung) and through the experience of the modern world (Erlebnis), the poetic subject of which explores a unique beach-orientated sociability characteristic of Rio de Janeiro's Zona Sul in the 1950s and at the beginning of the 1960s, which oscillates between the daily intimacy of private life and the contemplative enjoyment of the coastal landscape: its sun-kissed bohemia

Ruptura e continuidade na MPB: a questão da linha evolutiva
No full textDissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Antropologia, Florianópolis, 1992.O objetivo central deste trabalho está em interpretar o sentido da discursividade nativa Bossa Nova (BN) e Tropicalista (TROPI) no que tange à evolução musical popular associado à ruptura estética moderna. Para obter este objetivo utilizo-me de duas frentes: a primeira, examina a topologia discursiva, enquanto a segunda mergulha na feitura das canções. A obra divide-se em quatro partes. Na primeira, faço um apanhado de umas obras musicológicas para demonstrar o atual estágio deste assunto em ciências humanas. Na segunda verifico a discursividade em seus nexos com a ideologia de construção nacional do Brasil através da música. Na terceira parte realizo um exame semântico de algumas canções do movimento BN-TROPI, tentanto apontar para os momentos de entrelaçamento destes com esquemas estilísticos tradicionais. Por fim, a quarta parte é a conclusão, onde faço um rápido arremate de algumas idéias levantadas nas partes anteriores
O amor, o sorriso e o povo brasileiro: Vinícius de Moraes e os movimentos culturais do Brasil contemporâneo
No full textDissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Sociologia Política, Florianópolis, 2006.Este estudo propõe uma relação entre produção cultural e contexto social através da análise das composições de Vinicius de Moraes, tendo com referência duas de suas principais obras: Chega de Saudade e Gente Humilde. Para a realização desta pesquisa, inseriu-se o poeta no contexto histórico da época em que as letras foram feitas, além de se verificar também o quadro político vivido por Moraes em toda sua trajetória (1913 até 1980). Em um breve histórico, foram organizados momentos políticos, fazendo-se um levantamento dos presidentes do Brasil e as características de seus governos. Em seguida, apresenta-se um relato a respeito da vida de Vinicius de Moraes, suas profissões, suas viagens, suas parcerias e seus ideais políticos. Abordou-se ainda o contexto musical no qual as duas letras foram transformadas em músicas, descrevendo a Bossa Nova e as Músicas de Protesto. Ao final, analise-se as letras de Chega de Saudade e Gente Humilde, do ponto de vista da relação do poeta com suas parcerias, com o público e consigo.This study it considers a relation between cultural production and social context through the analysis of the production of Vinicius de Moraes having with reference two of its main compositions: #Chega de Saudade# and #Gente Humilde#. To build this research it was necessary to insert the poet into the historical context of the time the letters had been made and also verify the political context that Moraes lived during his entire trajectory (1913 up to 1980). In a brief description, the political setting had been rebuilt, including Brazilian Presidents and their governments# characteristics. After that, it was made a narrative regarding Vinicius de Moraes life, his professions, his trips, his partnerships and his political ideals. The musical context in which the two lyrics were transformed into music was also considered, describing the #Bossa Nova# and the Music of Protest. At last it was carried out an analysis of the songs #Chega de Saudade#and #Gente Humilde# considering the relation of the poet with his partnerships, with the public and with himself
ANTIMICROBIAL PEPTIDES FROM SKIN SECRETIONS OF RANA ESCULENTA. MOLECULAR CLONING OF cDNAs ENCODING ESCULENTIN AND BREVININS AND ISOLATION OF NEW ACTIVE PEPTIDES
No full textThree cytolytic peptides, termed brevinin-1E, brevinin-2E, and esculentin, were isolated from skin secretions of the European frog Rana esculenta (Simmaco, M., Mignogna, G., Barra, D., and Bossa, F. (1993) FEBS Lett. 324, 159-161). Nucleotide sequence analysis of cDNAs coding for the corresponding precursors revealed that in all of them a single copy of the sequence of the mature peptide is present preceded by a dibasic cleavage site and followed by a stop codon. The signal peptides of these precursors show a clear homology to the corresponding region of the precursor of dermorphin, a neuropeptide occurring in the skin of amphibians of the subfamily Phyllomedusinae. Ten new peptides, ranging in size from 24 to 46 residues, all possessing an intramolecular disulfide bridge located at the carboxyl-terminal end, were isolated from skin secretions of R. esculenta. These peptides can be grouped into four subfamilies on the basis of their distinctive structural and/or functional properties. All of these new peptides have antimicrobial and/or hemolytic activities typical for the respective subfamily. In addition, we demonstrate that esculentin-1 also inhibits the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae

No full textThe visual process of Bossa Nova LPs covers designed between the 50’s and the 60’s as historical and cultural elements is the dissertation analysis focus, and has as main object of research Elenco’s covers from 1963. The hypothesis is that these LP’s covers don’t have a static meaning inherent in a traditional approach of the image as a document but an image built in a sociohistorical context fulfilled by cultural traces. The methodology is consisted of putting together specific and different languages (memories, society and art), in search of understanding the conflict and tension of this dialogue, but not treating them like opposite polarities. It allows an analytic narrative about the great importance of the visual (r)evolution of Bossa Nova LPs cover.O processo visual das capas de discos da Bossa Nova, nas décadas de 1950 e 1960, como elementos históricos e culturais, é o foco de análise da dissertação, tendo como principal objeto as capas lançadas pela gravadora Elenco, em 1963. A hipótese é de que as capas não contenham um significado estático inerente a uma abordagem tradicional da imagem como documento, mas que a imagem ali contida seja uma construção sócio-histórica, carregando na sua produção traços do contexto cultural. O trabalho consistiu no diálogo entre específicas e diferentes linguagens (memórias, sociedade e a arte), na busca de interpretar o seu confronto e tensão dialógica, sem as tratar como polaridades opostas, permitindo assim, uma narrativa analítica sobre a grande importância da (r)evolução visual das capas dos discos da Bossa Nova
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
No full textWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. BOSSA: A multidimensional post-occupancy evaluation tool

Research findings point to three methodological shortcomings of current post-occupancy evaluation (POE) tools: (1) contextualizing results, (2) adding instrumental data side by side to survey results and (3) producing meaningful feedback to its key stakeholders. This paper introduces the holistic BOSSA (Building Occupants Survey System Australia) and tools developed under this project's scope in close collaboration with industry. It aims to present and discuss the statistical analysis used in the BOSSA tool, distilling the survey results down to nine indoor environmental quality (IEQ) dimensions and their association with four overall indices. Principal component analysis (PCA) extracted nine IEQ dimensions that were uncorrelated with each other: spatial comfort, indoor air quality, personal control, noise distraction and privacy, connection to the outdoor environment, building image and maintenance, individual space, thermal comfort, and visual comfort. Four separate multiple regression analyses were conducted, one for each global evaluation item as an independent variable: work area comfort, building satisfaction, productivity and health. This statistical analysis provided the rational basis of BOSSA's scoring system, designed to simplify how occupant survey results are communicated to key stakeholders from the property industry and researchers
