Schopenhauer vagheggia «una storia della letteratura
tragica» che racconti il «martirio» patito dai «veri
illuminatori dell’umanità», incompresi ed emarginati
dai loro contemporanei. Una storia della letteratura sub
specie alieni, dunque. Il libro che il lettore tiene fra le mani
vorrebbe essere il semplice abbozzo di questo progetto
colossale e intende far luce su alcune figure esemplari di
alterità comparse in ambito filosofico-letterario fra la fine
del Settecento e la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Novalis,
Chateaubriand, Coleridge, Byron, Carlyle, Thoreau,
Schopenhauer, Nietzsche e Friedrich Georg Jünger: questi
alcuni degli outsider analizzati, le cui fisionomie, allucinate
e fraterne, mostrano il volto della forma antropologica che,
sin dal Romanticismo, si aggira, solitaria e chiaroveggente,
per le strade della nostra civiltà «senza volto e meraviglia»
(Kerouac): lo straniero antimoderno. Questi vive in esilio
in una terra che gli appare estranea ed inquietante. Si sente
contemporaneo di spiriti scomparsi, fratello di sodali ormai
estinti e di casa in un mondo tramontato. Su di lui spira
il soffio gelido di una solitudine così estrema da risultare
inconcepibile per gli uomini del suo tempo. È la voce che
ricorda una saggezza del passato nell’epoca del suo oblio e
della degenerazione dell’umano. Ex alieno salus

In this respect, the task of the present work is to put Jünger’sWendeinto the context of some aspects of the history of modern subjectivity reconstructed through the analysis of texts by Baudelaire, Emerson, Thoreau, Nietzsche, Sorel, Spengler, Bakunin, Nechaev and Lenin.Another purpose is to show how Jünger’s shift from totalitarian utopianism to the project of a modern form of psychagogy finds its expression in the turning away from mythopoetic writing to-ward ‘self-writing’
