Determinación social de la violencia urbana en ciudades latinoamericanas: Una aproximación teórica, empírica y comparativa a partir de casos de Bogotá y Rio de Janeiro
Get PDFEsta tesis parte del reconocimiento de la necesidad de buscar nuevas formas de abordar e indagar la violencia en ciudades latinoamericanas desde la Salud Pública y busca proponer claves analíticas a partir de una exploración teórica que propone una articulación entre el corpus teórico de la “determinación social de los procesos salud-enfermedad-muerte” y la triada “territorio-territorialización-territorialidad” de la Geografía Crítica Latinoamericana. Asimismo, la tesis se plantea desde una exploración empírica y comparativa a partir del análisis de dos casos de conflicto territorial en las ciudades de Bogotá y Río de Janeiro para ilustrar las formas en las que se manifiesta un “cierre de espacios de la vida” en determinados territorios urbanos y la configuración de procesos malsanos que muchas veces implican y producen la muerte y multiplican la violencia (homicida). Especificamente analizamos los casos del barrio de San Bernardo en Bogotá, un barrio azotado por (des)ordenamientos territoriales vinculados al Plan Zonal del Centro, que han impuesto una “muerte lenta” a la infraestructura, al barrio y, finalmente también a los residentes del barrio; y del Complejo de favelas de la Maré en Rio de Janeiro, marcado por macro-procesos de re/des-ordenamiento territorial urbano y estrategias de contención territorial militarizada, donde confluyen violencias, se produce muerte pero también se articulan resistencias.Abstract: We propose a re-reading of urban violence and outline an approach to the social determination of urban violence in Latin American cities which is broudly based on an articulation between the analytical keys from the fields of Social Medicine and Latin American Collective Health regarding the "social determination of health-disease processes, and of life and death” and the “territory-territoriality-territorialization” triad as proposed in Latin American Critical Geography. In this way, we hope to denaturalize and complexify the phenomenon of urban violence. Furthermore, we seek to understand violent death as one of the most intimate and perverse materializations of the "closure of vital spaces" in the face of urban development under actually existing neoliberalism in Latin America. A comparative case study from Bogotá, Colombia, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will illustrate our approach and serve as referents of our reflection on the social determination of violence. Specifically, we analyze the cases of San Bernardo, a neighborhood ravaged by the territorial (un)planning in the context of one of Bogotá´s most important urban renovation proyects called “Plan Zonal del Centro”, that has imposed a “slow death” on infrastructure, the neighborhood and finally also on its residents; and the Maré favela complex in Rio de Janeiro, which has been shaped by macro processes of urban territorial re/un-ordering processes, militarized territorial contention strategies and different public security policies, by repression but also by resistance.Doctorad

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
