    Nonlinear verification of the resistive-wall boundary modules in the specyl and pixie3d magneto-hydrodynamic codes for fusion plasmas

    A nonlinear verification benchmark is reported between the three-dimensional magneto-hydrodynamic (3D MHD) codes specyl [Cappello and Biskamp, Nucl. Fusion 36, 571 (1996)] and pixie3d [Chacón, Phys. Plasmas, 15, 056103 (2008)]. This work substantially extends a former successful verification study between the same two codes [Bonfiglio et al., Phys. Plasmas, 17, 082501 (2010)] and focuses on the verification of thin-shell resistive-wall boundary conditions, recently implemented in both codes. Such boundary conditions feature a thin resistive shell in contact with the plasma and an ideal wall placed at a finite distance, separated from the resistive shell by a vacuum region, along with a 3D boundary flow consistent with Ohm’s law. This setup allows the study of MHD modes that are influenced by the plasma magnetic boundary, such as external kink modes. The linear growth and nonlinear saturation of external kink modes are studied in both the tokamak and reversed-field pinch magnetic configurations, demonstrating excellent agreement between the two codes. For the tokamak, we present a comparison with analytical linear stability results for the external kink mode, demonstrating remarkable agreement between numerical and analytical growth rates

    Pancreatic metastasis from clear cell renal carcinoma 33 years after nephrectomy

    Pancreas could be the metastatic site of recurrence of a previously resected clear cell renal carcinoma many years later. We report the case of a single metastasis at the pancreatic tail 33 years after the index nephrectomy. Because of the positive outcome after surgery, radical resection of both solitary and multiple metastases should be attempted in all surgically fit patients.     Policies and requirements for archival sedimentation in a hybrid records management environment: a critical analysis of international writings

    This study examines in detail the archival functions and practices that determine the sedimentation of records that have been generated in offices. Archival sedimentation, as it is understood in the Italian context, is the process by which records interrelate to create aggregations that document the activities performed by records creators. A fundamental role in this sedimentation process is played by classification, which provides the rules that govern these relationships, guaranteeing a meaningful context to records, as well as intellectual control over them. Despite the importance of classification for managing records, literature on this specific topic is scarce. Thus, this research examines the concept of classification, and provides clarification to distinguish it from other concepts that are indistinctly used, such as filing and arrangement. The records classification scheme, an essential tool traditionally used to classify and file records, is examined in the current digital environment, as new technological solutions for establishing records relationships have emerged. Traditional hierarchical records classification schemes, their constitutive elements, divisional criteria and methodologies for construction are analyzed, as are other tools currently used to simplify classification tasks, multiply records relationships and increase access points for retrieval. Findings show that the hierarchical structural relationships are still necessary to manage digital records, as are associative relations. Both types of relationship are used in records classification schemes, although at different levels of the scheme. Surprisingly, the construction of records classification schemes is almost unexplored within the archival discipline, which proposes general, scattered and dissimilar structures and few methodologies for their elaboration. This research presents a compendium of principles and methodological steps to be followed, highlighting the issue (still unresolved) of identifying classification elements such as functions, activities and transactions. Findings show that the analytical process that needs to be followed to identify these elements is based on both the functional and sequential analyses of the work processes/activities that generate records. However, the work process analysis for records is currently not consistently applied due to the high level expertise and interdisciplinary work it requires. Finally, another neglected topic within the archival literature, that of procedures for classification and filing, is also analyzed, as users need guidance on how these operations should be properly executed

    Dealing with Loved Ones’ Addiction: Development of an App to Cope with Caregivers’ Stress

    Caregivers remain the primary source of attachment, nurturing, and socialization for human beings in our current society. Family caregivers provide 11 to 100 h of care per week to their loved ones, including emotional and social support, assistance with transportation, home care, and so on. However, caregivers find the workload challenging due to fatigue, burnout, depression, anxiety, and sleep disturbances, and sometimes also from an excessive burden. Caregiver burden and stress ultimately negatively affect family members and caregivers. The caregiver is then at risk of developing deleterious physical, psychological, social, and emotional problems such as mood and anxiety disorders. Mobile health applications (mHealth applications) can be a solution to help family caregivers care for their loved ones and also for themselves. In this study, we present the development of an mHealth application for caregivers of persons with substance use and tested its usability. We used a user-centered design and intervention (UCDI) approach to develop the app by conducting a focus group with parents of individuals with addiction problems. Four key themes were identified during the focus group: (i) information section, (ii) self-care section, (iii) how-to: stress-reduction section, and (iv) chat section. The final app was developed with the software vendor and divided into several sections that were useful for managing psychological problems (such as stress or anxiety), informing about addiction and behavioral dependency problems, and helping users find a professional or services nearby. An analysis of the results of a usability test related to the app administered to a subsample of the focus group showed that the app provided ease of use, usefulness, and satisfaction

    Detailed Analysis of Skype Traffic

    Skype is beyond any doubt the VoIP application in the current Internet application spectrum. Its amazing success has drawn the attention of telecom operators and the research commu- nity, both interested in knowing its internal mechanisms, charac- terizing its traffic, understanding its users' behavior. In this paper, we investigate the characteristics of traffic streams generated by voice and video communications, and the signaling traffic generated by Skype. Our approach is twofold, as we make use of both active and passive measurement techniques to gather a deep understanding on the traffic Skype generates. From extensive testbed experiments, we devise a source model which takes into ac- count: i) the service type, i.e., SkypeOut calls or calls between two Skype clients, ii) the selected source Codec, iii) the adopted trans- port layer protocol, and iv) network conditions. Leveraging on the use of an accurate Skype classification engine that we recently pro- posed, we study and characterize Skype traffic based on extensive passive measurements collected from our campus LA
