Budząc wampira. Z Jakubem Kornhauserem o Gherasimie Luce, rumuńskim surrealizmie i niespełnieniu rozmawiają Marta Baron-Milian i Piotr Bogalecki
The interview by Marta Baron-Milian and Piotr Bogalecki with Jakub Kornhauser, who has been translating Gherasim Luca’s prose works from Romanian and French and popularizing them, aims at locating the bilingual oeuvre of the author of The Passive Vampire within the field of Romanian and French literature and on the map of avant-garde practices, particularly considering the history of surrealism. The problems raised in the interview focus on the workings of history in Luca’s texts, on their political character, and the undertaken interpretations are directed at attempts to capture the oeuvre of this author inter alia through the prism of the marrano figure, economic metaphors and stammer, which is a peculiarity of Luca’s language both in poetry and in prose.

With the Left Hand. Polish Theoreticians of Concrete Poetry as Concrete Poets (Józef Bujnowski, Tadeusz Sławek, Piotr Rypson)
Abstract: The present article, inscribing itself into the field of literary anthropology (as projected by Danuta Ulicka) and attempting at a neo-avant-guard re-interpretation of Polish post-war poetry (inspired chiefly by H. Foster's propositions), is dedicated to the oeuvre of three notable scholars of concrete poetry in Poland. Even though the theoretical propositions put forth by Józef Bujnowski (especially those presented in 1970s), Tadeusz Sławek (1980s) and Piotr Rypson (1990s) would determine the directions of the reception of concrete poetry over three subsequent decades, their intermedial, visual and auditory poetic experiments either remain unknown or have been forgotten. Bringing them back to the forefront of the academic attention and subjecting them to an analysis, the author of this article argues that taking such text into account in the diachronic study of the Polish literary culture does not only enrich the existing narratives oscillating around Polish concrete poetry and allow their reinterpretation, but also makes visible a number of research problems, of which the most important are related to the role played by authors who simultaneously are involved in literary scholarship and in writing, especially in the context of the neo-avant-guard shift of the borders between institutionalized scholarship and art. Keywords: concrete poetry, essayist literary scholarship, limits of art, limits of scholarship

Lewą ręką : polscy teoretycy poezji konkretnej jako konkretyści (Józef Bujnowski, Tadeusz Sławek, Piotr Rypson)
The present article, inscribing itself into the field of
literary anthropology (as projected by Danuta Ulicka) and
attempting at a neo-avant-guard re-interpretation of Polish
post-war poetry (inspired chiefly by H. Foster's
propositions), is dedicated to the oeuvre of three notable
scholars of concrete poetry in Poland. Even though the
theoretical propositions put forth by Józef Bujnowski
(especially those presented in 1970s), Tadeusz Sławek
(1980s) and Piotr Rypson (1990s) would determine the
directions of the reception of concrete poetry over three
subsequent decades, their intermedial, visual and auditory
poetic experiments either remain unknown or have been
forgotten. Bringing them back to the forefront of the
academic attention and subjecting them to an analysis, the
author of this article argues that taking such text into
account in the diachronic study of the Polish literary
culture does not only enrich the existing narratives
oscillating around Polish concrete poetry and allow their
reinterpretation, but also makes visible a number of
research problems, of which the most important are related
to the role played by authors who simultaneously are
involved in literary scholarship and in writing, especially
in the context of the neo-avant-guard shift of the borders
between institutionalized scholarship and art
Od święta do święta. Sztuka życia według Bohdana Zadury
The aim of the article is to interpret a selection of Bohdan Zadura's poems which can be called "the festival poems" in the light of anthropology of festivals (Jean Duvignaud) and the so-called postsecular thought. Starting with the idea of the art-of-living, the sacred-profane opposition (Mircea Eliade) and Piotr Sommer's essay on the festive and commonplace poetry, author distinguishes four stages of the poetical anthropology of festivals in Zadura's poetry, ranging from complete sacralization in the first "neoclassical" period to complete secularity in his recent books. Currently the former appears as a starting point in the long-term poetical practice of sanctification of the secular and profanation of the sacred. The latter can be captured as an attempt to elaborate a new postsecular mode of spirituality.Miłosz Markiewic
„Rozwiecznione w horyzont”. Wieki średnie Stanisława Barańczaka
The article provides an interpretation of Middle Ages, a poem from Stanisław Barańczak’s debut publication Facial Corrections (1968). Focussing on the way that numerous examples of zeugma and syllepsis are used, the author argues that this poem, which was probably inspired by the first Polish publication of the Waning of the Middle Ages by J. Huizinga, was created through the poet’s reflections on the structure of messianic time (kairos). As such it can be seen as both a polemic with materialism and a criticism of Christianity. In this way Middle Ages proves to be the first of post-secular Barańczak’s poems which herald the wealth of spiritual explorations in his later works
The literary science as de-facement. Problem of double authorship in Tadeusz Rachwał and Tadeusz Sławek's texts
The essay is an attempt of rethinking a mode of authorship in literary science discourse of
Tadeusz Rachwał and Tadeusz Sławek. Their texts is being compared with G. Deleuze and
F. Guattari's method of collective writing and interpreted according to theories of J. Derrida, P. de
Man and M. Foucault. Rachwał and Sławek's strategy of double authorship (which is not the
same as traditional co-authorship) underlines the impossibility of recognition who is speaking in
the text; therefore their collective books may be understood as a kind of performing theses which
they contain (e.g. connected with poststructuralist "death of author" or a poet and God's mystical
co-writing). Furthermore, double authorship leaves its marks on structure of text. We can see a lot
of techniques which make Rachwał and Sławek's texts more complicated, e.g. fragmentary style
of writing, using different types of typography and even creating an elements of visual poetry.
These experiments and a new way of these texts' being in academic public sphere make them
rather ethical than scientific - the ethic qualities and poetic function seem to be more important
than the science typical cognitive functions. Because of unceasing underlining a linguistic aspect,
the texts of Rachwał and Sławek may be read as examples of rhetorical type of ethic criticism.
Not only do they ask about a significance of primary ethical ideas like friendship, community or
responsibility, but also about an existence of category of author in literary studies after linguistic turn
About art of word in "Potrójny z Plauta" by Piotr Ciekliński (selected problems)
The article deals with the question of the language and the style of drama Potrójny z Plauta by Piotr Ciekliński.
The author of the treatise emphasized the most important components creating the artistic structure of the work, especially regional elements which are so essential for the writings of old literature
Kamień odrzucony? Postsekularyzm jako perspektywa interpretacyjna literatury i kultury polskiej
In comparison to other theoretical orientations of recent years, postsecularism does not
seem to off er favourable conditions for studying Polish culture. The possibility of transferring
postsecular literature studies (J. McClure) to the fi eld of Polish literature may
seem disputable; the hitherto taken attempts, briefl y presented in the article, show that
as a potential “cornerstone” of new readings in Polish literature, postsecularism has
been rejected. Presenting potential benefi ts which could be yielded by adopting postsecularism
as a foundation for an alternative history of selected phenomena within modern
Polish culture (chiefl y literature, but also cinematography, visual arts and music), the
author points at research problems whose complexity and importance can be revealed
only by a failure which threatens each attempt at formulating a holistic history of literature
and culture. Those research problems include: the intrinsically non-religious uses
of religious language in literature; the diversity of poetics of profanity and blasphemy,
the role of Communism in literary texts using the language of religion, the performative
and political character of literary theologies of the Communist Poland; and secularization
of the West as the topic and context of Polish-language literary texts
