The politics of the crucified: a study of the political theology of John Howard Yoder, Leonardo Boff and Jon Sobrino with special reference to the crucifixion
Jesus died violently on the cross, the form of execution imposed on those who threatened the Roman imperial order. What difference does this make to Christian political theology? What is the revelatory value of Jesus’ death with regard to political theology? This thesis explores these questions, using a Christocentric methodology and taking three theologians in particular as interlocutors -– the
Mennonite theologian John Yoder and the Latin American liberation theologians Leonardo Boff and Jon Sobrino – with special reference to an examination of the ways in which their political theologies are shaped by the cross. The first part of the thesis consists of a close analysis and comparison of the writings of the above theologians concerning the cross. In Yoder, the theme of a cruciform, non-violent and non-resistant church is emphasised. In Boff and Sobrino the cross is seen to represent a protest against suffering in the name of a crucified God in solidarity with a crucified people. In the second part of the thesis the perspective widens to examine two issues which particularly arise from this analysis – how a Christian doctrine of political power is affected by the crucifixion, and how the contemporary church, particularly in Britain, might adopt a ‘cruciform’ political praxis. The
conclusion is drawn that the chief Christian criterion for analysing political power is victimological – i.e. from the perspective of the victims of power, rather than those
who exercise it. In the light of this, and given its increasingly marginalised status, the church in Britain should abandon any pretensions to ‘Christendom’, formulate a
cruciform political theology and willingly live out a cruciform status
Effects of dynamised high dilutions and vegetal extract based on silicon on the growth and induction of resistance in tomato plants against Rhizoctonia solani
The objective of this study was to study the response of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) against Rhizoctonia solani using dynamised high dilutions and plant extract based on silicon. The treatments were Silicea terra (ST), Thuya occidentalis (TO), and Equisetum arvense (EA) at 30CH (Centesimal Hahnemannian dilution order), Equisetum arvense leaf extract (LE), and non-dynamised water as the control. Seeds of tomato cv Marmande were treated overnight. The in vitro bioassays involved assessment of R. solani mycelial growth, seed germination, and seedling development. In the greenhouse experiment, the emergence, root and aerial part development, and disease development were evaluated. Leaves were harvested to analyse concentrations of flavonoids, phenolic compounds, chlorophyll, carotenoids, and chitinase activity. In the in vitro bioassay, LE reduced mycelial growth and TO increased the seedling vigour index, dry weight, and length of seedlings. In the greenhouse experiment, TO and ST increased plant emergence. Tomato plants treated with ST improved the fresh weight and the length of the roots. The disease severity was decreased by ST, LE, and TO. The flavonoid concentration was higher in plants treated with TO and LE. Overall, the treatments of TO, EA, and ST improved the content of phenolic compounds. Moreover, endochitinase and chitobiosidase were activated by LE

Previous issue date: 2015-01-20This dissertation is a result of research and analysis of the subjects around the The Lord?s Prayer . It has the purpose of confronting the content within the prayer with the lives of the mozambican people in its relations to God and others. Having as a start point the essay of Leonardo Boff s The Lord?s Prayer: The Prayer of Integral Liberation (1979). Deriving from this, the theme of the dissertation is centered on The Lord?s Prayer according to the theology of Leonardo Boff and on mozambican cultural perspective. It presents a brief exegetic study of the Lord?s Prayer. It develops a discussion around the Lord?s Prayer according to the theology of Leonardo Boff. It follows with the exposure of some compelling arguments that this prayer, to the mozambican people, is not a theory, but life itself. It acknowledges God as the father; the respect for His holy Name; recognition of His Kingdom?s supremacy; recognition of the superiority of His will; the breaking of bread which makes communion; forgiveness that heals grief and the trust in God in times of temptation and for the future itself. The conclusion brings a comparative synopsis of the Lord?s Prayer in the theological and cultural mozambican perspective. Apresenta breve estudo exeg?tico do Pai-Nosso.

High dilution of Staphysagria and fruit fly biotherapic preparations to manage South American fruit fly, Anastrepha fraterculus, in organic peach orchards.
The peach, Prunus persica, is an important economic crop in southern Brazil, where family farms are predominantly small. The South American fruit fly, Anastrepha fraterculus is a limiting factor to increased production in orchard crops. Increased organic production in Brazil has stimulated research to find ecological based pest management. This research was carried out in order to evaluate the efficacy of preparations at high dilution in managing A. fraterculus in organic peach orchards. Experiments were conducted under field conditions in randomized blocks during 2003/04 and 2004/05. Treatments consisted of A. fraterculus nosodes and Staphysagria homeopathic preparations, both at two high dilution levels, 3CH and 6CH (centesimal hahnemannian dilution method), applied at two spray intervals, 5 and 10 days, and a control. Fruit losses due to A. fraterculus infestation varied from 40 to 98.3%. Although there were significant differences among treatments in the first harvest of two of the three experiments there were no significant differences in the second harvest of any of the experiments. None of the homeopathic preparations reduced the incidence of infested fruit significantly below that of the water control in any of the three experiments. Further studies must combine other strategies such as bagging fruits and planting of early season cultivars. Variation on high dilution potency, dose, and frequency of application must also be considered

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
