Background and Objectives: In the history of physics and mathematics education at Saratov State University in the 1920s–1950s,the personality of Georgy P. Boev (November 25, 1898 – July 8, 1959) occupies a prominent place. He was one of the first students and graduates of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics opened at the university in 1917, its first graduate student, the first dean of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, and the first scientific director of the computer center of Saratov State University. The article describes the various stages of the creative biography of Georgy P. Boev: the period of study and work as a lecturer at Saratov State University in 1917–1930, the period of work as a professor and head of the department of mathematics at the Ivanovo Textile Institute (1930–1934), the second period of work at Saratov State University as a professor and head of mathematics departments (1934–1959), as well as acting director of the Research Institute of Mathematics, Mechanics and Physics at Saratov State University (1939–1941), dean of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics (1943–1945), dean of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics (1945–1947), Vice-Rector of Saratov State University for Academic Affairs (1947–1950), scientific director of the problem laboratory “Computing Center” (1957–1959). Materials and Methods: The presentation of the biography of Georgy P. Boev is based on archival materials, his personal notes and memories of colleagues, and an analysis of his scientific heritage. Conclusion: The article pays tribute to the extraordinary personality of Georgy P. Boev and at the same time serves as an illustration of the historical conditions that developed in the field of higher education in the country in which he was destined to live and work

Microelements in the Soils and Ashes of the Plants Viola alsharica and Thymus alsharensis of the Alshar Site-Macedonia

The paper presents detailed geochemical investigations carried out in part of the Alshar polymetallic deposit to investigate the presence of individual microlements in the soils and plants such as Viola alsharica and Thymus alsharensis. The investigated area covers the northern portion of the deposit. Elements analyzed included Sb, Se, W, Zn, Ba, TI, As, Co, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, Cd and Be. Investigations demonstrated high geochemical correlation between the distribution of individual elements in the soils and plants. It can be inferred that the plants in the area under investigation contain increased concentrations of thallium, zinc, lead, manganese and copper. For the results of previous studies of the Alsar deposit, the reader is referred to Ivanov (1965), Percival and Boev (1990), Percival et al. (1992), Boev and Serafimovski (\996), and for investigation of minerals to Caye el al. (1967), Balic-Zullic et al. (1986) El Goresy and Pavicevic (1988), and Frantz (1994)

Geomicrobio Logical Observation in Majdanska Reka, Allchar, Macedonia

    Get PDF
Allchar and surrounding area is well-known as polymetallic ore deposit with elevated concentrations of As, Tl, and Sb. Such ore deposit has unique impact to environment in sense of elevated heavy metals concentration in waters, soils and air. Constant influence of these toxic elements enhanced with weathering process(es) of the outcrops containing rare sulfide minerals produce environment with endemic species like Violica Allcharica (Boev & al., 2014). Due to fact that Allchar area is distant from intensive anthropogenic influence, it represents an unique geochemical environent, but it was not studied yet for describing the geomicrobiological conditons. This study tries to identify specific interaction between mineral and living world

During the Teritary, from the Eocene to the Plioccene granodiorite masses inturdes axtruded on the surface along some tectonic zones. The evolution of this magmatism was reported first by Ilic (1962), and later presended in detail by Karamata (1962), Karamata and Dzordzevic (1980), Antonovic and Filipovic (1977) reported the major geochemical features of this magmatism. Individual area were shown in detail by Boev(1988)

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
