Worum aber handelt es sich, wenn von Mazedonien die Rede ist? Die medialie Repräsentation der Region bleibt oft diffus und ist stark von Stereotypen geprägt. Benjamin Langer zeigt in seiner umfassenden Analyse erstmals auf, wie diese südosteuropäische Region in deutschsprachigen Texten aus einer terra incognita an der Peripherie Europas geformt und mit Zuschreibungen versehen wurde. Pure Violence on the Stage of Exception: Representations of Revolutions in Georg Büchner, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Heiner Müller, and Elfriede Jelinek
No full textThesis (Ph.D.)--University of Washington, 2013This dissertation examines pertinent issues of today's terrorism debate in frequently overlooked earlier representations of revolutionary and state violence. At the center of this debate is the state of exception through which the sovereign legitimizes the juridical order by suspending preexisting civil laws. As recent theorists have argued, this has become the paradigm for modern nation states. Walter Benjamin contends, however, that a permanent state of exception has existed since the Baroque and has subjected its victims to an empty eschaton, an end without messianic redemption and devoid of all meaning. As long as the order of the sovereign is based on the dialectical relationship between law-making and law-preserving violence, this state will persevere and the messianic promise will not come to fruition. Thus Benjamin conceives of another category of violence he calls "pure violence," which lies outside of the juridical order altogether. This type of violence also has the ability to reinstate history insofar as the inevitability of the state of exception has ceased any historical continuity. By looking at the revolutionary dramas of Georg Büchner, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Heiner Müller, and Elfriede Jelinek, this study examines the ways in which representations of revolutions in language reinscribe the state of exception. The history of revolutions in these dramas is comprised of nothing more than the disjointed pieces of intertextual relations and citations of a preexisting language. These pieces construct merely the appearance of a historical code and demonstrate what is at stake for Benjamin: an eternally fragmented history. This study is particularly interested in textual and theatrical moments outside of this code (and outside of representation) that expose the possibility of "pure violence" or a type of revolutionary violence, which would allow for the messianic

No full textDas Forschungsgebiet Autor Profiling hat aufgrund der zahlreichen realen Anwendungsgebiete in den letzten Jahren sowohl in der akademischen Forschung als auch im industriellen Sektor an Aufmerksamkeit gewonnen. Bisherige Forschungsansätze berücksichtigen jedoch nur Texte von Blogs oder Mikroblogs. Daher liegt der Fokus dieser Arbeit auf der Analyse von Beiträgen aus Frage-und-Antwort-Platformen, insbesondere aus dem Stack Exchange-Netzwerk. Es wird untersucht, ob und wie gut aktuelle Ansätze zur Autorenprofilerstellung auf diese Beiträge angewandt werden können, um das Geschlecht des Benutzers vorherzusagen. Da in dem verwendeten Datensatz keine Geschlechtsinformationen verfügbar sind, wurde ein vorab trainiertes neuronales Netzwerk genutzt, um das Geschlecht des Benutzers basierend auf dem Profilbild zu definieren. Durch den Vergleich von verschiedenen Kombinationen aus Textverarbeitungsansätzen, n-gram Variationen, Ansätzen zur Dimensionalitätsreduzierung und angewandten Klassifizierern, zeigt diese Arbeit, dass ein mehrschichtiges Perceptron in Kombination mit Wort n-Grammen und univarianter Merkmalsauswahl eine solide Klassifizierungsgenauigkeit von über 90% erzielt.Due to its diverse real-world applications, the research field of author profiling has recently been attracting growing attention and importance in both academic research and industry. Nevertheless, past research approaches consider only text from blogs or micro-blogs. Therefore, this thesis focuses on the analysis of user posts extracted from question and answering platforms, in particular, the stack exchange network. It examines the applicability of current author profiling approaches on user posts in order to predict the author's gender. As gender information is not available in the used dataset, a pre-trained neural network is applied to define the user's gender based on the profile picture. By comparing various combinations of text processing approaches, Bag of N-gram variations, dimensionality reduction approaches, and applied classifiers, this thesis shows that a multilayered perceptron in combination with word n-grams and univariate feature selection achieves a solid classification accuracy of over 90%.Benjamin BinderMasterarbeit University of Innsbruck 202
