International Bottom Trawl Survey (NS-IBTS2023-Q1) - French cruise report
In 2023, the French NS-IBTS Q1 survey was conducted as part of the International Bottom Trawl Survey program carried out by main countries bordering the North Sea in order to assess abundance and stocks distribution, independently of commercial fisheries data. The first target of the NS-IBTS Q1 survey is to provide a diagnosis on the main commercial fish species by estimating their abundance per age. A standardized protocol is rigorously applied by all participants. The R/V Thalassa sampled the eastern part of the Channel and southern North Sea (until 55° N) from 23rd January to 14th February 2023. During daily time, 52 hauls, lasting 30 minutes, have been carried out with a GOV bottom trawl. All collected species have been collected, determined and measured, and 2084 otoliths (for age estimation) have been collected for 10 species. This year, whiting (Merlangius merlangus) represented 38% of the total biomass caught followed by (Limanda limanda; 12%), mackerel (Scomber scombrus; 12%), sprat (Sprattus sprattus; 14%) and herring (Clupea harengus; 13%). During the night, 104 MIK net have been deployed to calculate an index for herring, sardine and lemon sole larvae abundance. Within each station, a CTD sensor was deployed to record environmental parameters (e.g., temperature, salinity and oxygen) all along the water column, from surface to bottom. In order to study the whole marine ecosystem, some additional studies were carried out in the context of the Marine Strategy Framework Strategy and for various research projects

The first target of the NS-IBTS Q1 survey is to provide a diagnosis on the main commercial fish species by estimating their abundance per age. During daily time, 50 hauls, lasting 30 minutes, have been carried out with a GOV bottom trawl. All collected species have been collected, determined and measured, 1916 otoliths (for age estimation) have been collected for 10 species, and 550 stomach (for trophic informations) have been collected for 4 species. This year, whiting (Merlangius merlangus) represented 60% of the total biomass caught followed by herring (Clupea harengus; 21%) and mackerel (Scomber scombrus; 9%). During the night, 89 MIK net have been deployed to calculate an index for herring, sardine and lemon sole larvae abundance. Within each station, a CTD sensor was deployed to record environmental parameters (e.g., temperature, salinity and oxygen) all along the water column, from surface to bottom. Atelier d'inter-calibration des estimations des petits pélagiques (Anchois et Sardine) en Atlantique. Boulogne sur mer, 14 au 15 mars 2018
Cet atelier 2018 a été mis en place pour intercalibrer les estimations d'âge des anchois et des sardines en Atlantique entre Erwan Duhamel qui est le lecteur de ces espèces du golfe de Gascogne et Célina Chantre et Geoffrey Bled Defruit du pôle national de Sclérochronologie du laboratoire Ressources Halieutiques de Boulogne sur mer qui vont commencer à estimer l'âge de ces petits pélagiques dans le golfe de Gascogne. L'objectif est d'abord de calibrer les estimations d’âge pour ces 2 espèces de petits pélagiques dans le golfe de Gascogne et de revoir les moyens pour réaliser les images en mer lors de la campagne Pelgas et à terre en laboratoire. Cette intercalibration est basée sur la lecture d’images : 136 otolithes d'anchois et 140 otolithes de sardine par 3 lecteurs.
Cet atelier a permis de calibrer les lectures entre Erwan Duhamel (lecteur d'anchois et de sardines du golfe de Gascogne) et Geoffrey Bled Defruit et Célina Chantre (lecteurs du pôle de Sclérochronologie). Les discussions ont permis d'identifier les problèmes d'estimation d'âge et de corriger les écarts entre lecteurs. En comparant les résultats des 3 lecteurs à partir des images de sardines, la précision a fortement augmentée entre la première lecture lors de l’échange et la deuxième lecture lors du workshop passant d’un pourcentage d’agrément de 71.7% à 89% et un CV de 36% à 9%. Ceci se traduit par des estimations d’âge pour la sardine réalisées par Erwan et Geoffrey sans biais dû au lecteur. En ce qui concerne l’anchois, les résultats des lectures dès la première lecture lors de l’échange ne montrent pas de différences significatives entre lecteurs avec un pourcentage d'agrément total de 83.5% et un coefficient de variation de 16.9%. Ainsi, il n’y a pas de biais entre les 3 lectures. Ce rapport d'atelier se veut être un support pour l'interprétation des otolithes de ces deux espèces.

This document provides instructions to use the Otolith Analysis plugins for the Icy software.Plugins have been developed by Icy Services for the Laboratoire de Ressources Halieutiques de Boulogne (PDG-RBE-HMMN-LRHBL), IFREMER, Boulogne-sur-Mer. This is a Java plugin running on the bioimage analysis software Icy. This plugin is composed of three modules: pre-processing of mosaic images, otolith shape analysis and otolith texture analysis (semiautomatic detection of increments for ageing measurements). Ce document fournit des instructions pour l'utilisation de plugins d'analyses des otolithes pour le logiciel Icy. Les plugins ont été développés par Icy Services pour le compte du Laboratoire de Ressources Halieutiques de Boulogne (PDG-RBE-HMMN-LRHBL), IFREMER, Boulogne-sur-Mer. Il s'agit d'un plugin Java plugin fonctionnant sur le logiciel d'analyse de bioimage Icy. Ce plugin est composé de trois modules : le prétraitement des images en mosaïque, l'analyse de la forme des otolithes et l'analyse de la texture des otolithes (de façon semi-automatique détection semi-automatique des incréments pour les mesures de vieillissement).

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
