Fire resistance evaluation through fragility curves
No full textSince the FSE has been introduced, designers have been equipped with tools that allow optimising
the performance of structures in fire. Vulnerability assessment, evaluated by stochastic approach
has become of increasing interest in the international research, also driven by insurance company
needs. The paper shows the application of probabilistic tools for assessing mechanical behaviour at
elevated temperature of common structural typologies (i.e. steel, concrete and composite beams
with or without axial restraints) at different load levels. The fluid dynamic aspects are included in
the statistical analysis, with natural fires selected in order to analyse the influence of the specific
fire load and the ventilation condition of the compartment by means of a two-zone model. Results
are summarized in fragility curves giving time collapse or maximum displacement limit state
attainment. In future, fragility curves could be built for complex structures to provide a tool for
insurance companies that allows rapid assessment of structural vulnerability to fire

No full textIl volume analizza l’istituto della biblioteca pubblica in chiave comparata.
Si mettono dapprima a confronto alcuni dei principali modelli organizzativi e funzionali sviluppatisi nel panorama internazionale: dalla public library anglosassone alle esperienze tedesche della dreigeteilte Bibliothek e della fraktale Bibliothek, dalla biblioteca civica alla médiathèque, dagli Idea Store londinesi al Four-spaces model scandinavo.
L’attenzione si sposta, poi, su alcune delle realizzazioni più riuscite di biblioteca pubblica nel nostro paese per le quali sono stati raccolti dati strutturali, di servizio e funzionamento, costruiti indicatori di performance e somministrate interviste a personale e utenti.
L’obiettivo è individuare tratti distintivi e comuni alle esperienze e ai modelli consolidatisi anche al di fuori dei nostri confini per valutarne funzioni, servizi, risultati e impatto sociale, riflettere sul futuro della biblioteca pubblica (anche alla luce dell’epidemia da Covid-19) e rispondere a una domanda: le biblioteche saranno davvero in grado di riposizionarsi nelle comunità investite dai cambiamenti e nelle nuove abitudini di vita delle persone

Si tratta di una denominazione che, di fatto, nel nostro Paese si è formalizzata solo nel 2009, con la nascita della figura del docente titolare dell’insegnamento di bibliografia e biblioteconomia musicale presso i Conservatori di musica e gli Istituti superiori di studi musicali. In realtà, le teorie e i metodi bibliografici e biblioteconomici applicati all’ambito musicale hanno una storia più antica che si prova a delineare a partire dallo spoglio e dall’analisi di alcune delle principali riviste di storia della musica e musicologia diffusesi in Italia dai primi del Novecento
Experimental analysis on the effectiveness of intumescent coatings in fire
No full textIntumescent coatings (IC) are the most frequently used fireproof materials for protecting steel structures
in the current market. In case of fire, the IC changes chemical, physical and thermal properties. The
paper shows preliminary results of an experimental study consisting in about 40 lab scale tests, in which
the effect of section factor, IC dry thickness, shape of the samples (with same section factor) and input
fire curves are considered in the IC assessment. This characterization is essential for modelling
structural members protected by IC through FE analysis in the framework of fire safety engineering
applications and for designing the required IC thickness to protect the structural members

No full textThe paper reconsiders the key issue of the industrial district and the multinational enterprise as two alternative or complementary drivers of local development in the light of new empirical evidence. That evidence derives from the results of two surveys of the determinants of linkages between local firms and foreign affiliates. The surveys were conducted in the Italian province of Modena in the past few years; Modena is well-known internationally for its leading industrial districts, which specialise in both traditional and high-tech manufacturing industries. The evidence shows that local firms and foreign affiliates are actively engaged in a dense local production network where foreign affiliates can play a crucial role in enhancing the position of local firms in global value chains
