Background. multiple myeloma (mm) is a plasma cell cancer that affects white blood cells. plasma cells from the bone marrow grow abnormally, as a consequence of which patients have high amounts of monoclonal immunoglobulin in their blood and urine, poor renal function, and recurring infections due to this condition. osteolytic bone lesions and immunodeficiency also impact multiple myeloma patients’ longevity and quality of life. The disease accounts for 13 % of all hematological malignancies worldwide, making it the second most common blood cancer.Material and Methods. The studies investigating mm biomarkers from 2000 to 2021 are collected from various databases. “multiple myeloma”, “biomarkers”, “genetic markers”, “prognostic markers”, “epidemiology of multiple myeloma”, and “risk factors for multiple myeloma” are the key phrases utilized to gather the articles.Results. The scientific and medical research progressed into mm, and the number of cases increased over time and continues to rise, prompting researchers and clinicians to discover new consequences of the disease and new markers for prognosis, diagnosis, detection, and treatment of cancer in the earliest stages. Prognostic and predictive signs for illness recurrence and response to medication may be detected adequately by innovative potential biomarkers, which are more accurate than current approaches.Conclusion. treatment for multiple myeloma includes a variety of chemotherapeutic medicines, including immune modulators and proteasome inhibitors; however, most patients still experience recurrence after completing treatment. There have been numerous novel techniques for managing multiple myeloma, and this review summarises the most commonly used and the new ones that have appeared in the previously published articles.Актуальность. Множественная миелома (ММ) – злокачественная опухоль плазматических клеток, поражающая лейкоциты. У пациентов с ММ аномалии в плазматических клетках костного мозга приводят к повышению уровня моноклонального иммуноглобулина в крови и моче, с развитием почечной недостаточности и появлению рецидивирующих инфекций. Остеолитические поражения и иммунодефицит также оказывают негативное влияние на продолжительность и качество жизни пациентов с множественной миеломой. На это заболевание приходится 13 % всех злокачественных гематологических опухолей в мире, что делает ММ вторым наиболее распространенным новообразованием кроветворной системы.Материал и методы. В различных базах данных проведен поиск опубликованных результатов исследований, посвященных биомаркерам ММ, за период с 2000 по 2021 г. При отборе статей использовались следующие ключевые понятия: «множественная миелома», «биомаркеры», «генетические маркеры», «прогностические маркеры», «эпидемиология множественной миеломы», «факторы риска множественной миеломы».Результаты. Несмотря на значительные успехи, полученные в изучении и лечении ММ, число больных с этой патологией продолжает расти, побуждая исследователей к поиску новых маркеров для прогноза, диагностики и лечения заболевания, особенно на ранних стадиях. Прогностические и предиктивные факторы риска рецидива заболевания и ответа на терапию могут быть выявлены с помощью более эффективных инновационных методов определения потенциальных биомаркеров.Заключение. Несмотря на применение различных противоопухолевых препаратов, включая иммуномодуляторы и ингибиторы протеасом при лечении множественной миеломы, у большинства пациентов наблюдаются рецидивы заболевания. The role of biomarkers in early prediction and molecular mechanisms of preeclampsia
Preeclampsia (PE) is determined as high blood pressure during pregnancy and proteinuria of 300 mg or more in a 24-hour urine sample. PE is a leading cause of maternal death, with about 55000 deaths worldwide each year. Toxic substances that damage the maternal vascular endothelium induced PE, resulting in liver and kidney malfunction. It is crucial for obstetricians to identify as early as possible the patients who are at risk for PE. Familial history of PE, polycystic ovarian disease, sleeping disorders, urinary infections, periodontal disease, smoking, and lifestyle are the major risk factors involved in this disease. VEGF, sFlt1, sENG, PAPP-A, inhibin A and activin A proteins, fetal hemoglobin, heat shock protein and placental protein have been shown to predict or diagnose PE and help in understanding the pathogenesis of PE. In addition, a better understanding of PE pathogenesis would aid in identifying the most effective treatments that do not impair the fetus’ prognosis. The aim of our study is a review of the pathophysiology and biomarkers, such as pro- and anti-angiogenic substances, that may be useful in the detection of PE in the future
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
