Cash-in-advance constraints in the overlapping generations model : neutrality of monetary policies and macro-dynamics This article is concerned with the role of money in an O.L.G. model. Money is introduced through a cash-in-advance constraint. We show that money is super-neutral if the structure of money repartition does not depend on the money growth rate. We study the dynamics, and the influence of money transfers on capital accumulation.Cash-in-advance constraints in the overlapping generations model : neutrality of monetary policies and macro-dynamics This article is concerned with the role of money in an O.L.G. model. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Optimism, pessimism and financial bubbles

This paper shows that it is possible to extend the scope of the existence of rational bubbles when uncertainty is introduced associated with rank-dependent expected utility. This RDU assumption can be viewed as a transformation of probabilities depending on the pessimism/optimism of the agent. The results show that pessimism favors the existence of deterministic bubbles, when optimism may promote the existence of stochastic bubbles. Moreover, under pessimism, the RDU assumption may generate multiple bubbly equilibria. The RDU assumption also leads to new conditions ensuring the (absence of) Pareto-optimality of the competitive equilibrium without bubbles. These conditions still govern the existence of bubbles.Rational bubbles, RDU preferences.

Fertility in the absence of self-control.

This paper studies the quantity-quality trade-off model of fertility, under the assumption of hyperbolic discounting. It shows that the lack of self-control may play a different role in a developed economy and in a developing one. In the first case characterized by a positive investment in quality, the lack of self control tends to reduce fertility. In the second case, it is possible that the lack of self-control leads both to no investment in quality and to a higher fertility rate. It is also proved that if parents cannot commit on their investment in quality, a small change of parameters may lead to a jump in fertility.Endogenous fertility, quasi-hyperbolic preferences.

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Savings behavior with imperfect capital markets: when hyperbolic discounting leads to discontinuous strategies.

    No full text
This paper provides a detailed study of a simple life-cycle consumption model with quasi-hyperbolic discounting and an imperfect financial market. It gives a complete characterization of savings behaviors. The joint assumptions of quasi-hyperbolic discount factors and no-borrowing constraints may lead to non-convexities in selves' objective functions that may imply discontinuous equilibrium strategies. Savings function may undergo jumps and non-momotonicities when the income or the interest rate reach a threshold value. These "anomalies" may exist even for reasonable parameters values.Quasi-hyperbolic preferences, no-borrowing constraint, discontinuous strategies.

[eng] Growth through qualityimprovements and product cycle in an overlapping generations model. . We present in this article an endogenous growth model, in the framework of an overlapping generations model. Growth is the resuit of product improvements, which corne from research activity. In each sector, the arrivai of an innovation is a risky event, but this process leads to a smooth growth at the aggregate level. We determine the dynamics of our model and show that two economies which only differ by their population size can have different dynamics. Then, we apply the basic model to open economics, and we modelize Vernon's idea about product life cycle. We show that for such a structure of international trade, parameters as the population sizes or the discount rates influence crucialy the growth rate of the economies.
