Also included are various photocopied and original documents pertaining to Berta Scheiner’s experiences in Vienna, Austria and in wartime England.digitized"Fahneneid", a book by Karol Schaerding, has been removed to the LBI Library.Bertha Freud was born 1913 as Berta Scheiner in Rohatyn, Galicia, but grew up in Vienna’s 20th District, Austria, where she studied at Handelsschule fuer Beamtentoechter, a trade school for the daughters of Austrian civil servants. She left Austria in September 1938 for England, where she stayed as a domestic servant until 1947, when she immigrated to the US.Esther Scheiner, née Knopf (Berta Freud’s sister-in-law) was the last Jewish student at the Dental Department at the University in Frankfurt/M. in 1937. Wachs' last residence at Weissgärberlaende 10, 3rd District. Rabbi Murmelstein, Vienna. US Senator J. Hamilton Lewis. American Consul General Leland B. Morris. Steffie Wetterschneider; Donald; M. Rosler; Julius Karezmann; Trude; S. de Miranda, Stella; Walter Zelmanovics. Schaffa, Poland. Goldmann, Julia ;Edmund Wachs was born November 12th 1908 and grew up in Vienna, where he worked in sausage manufacturing. After his four months imprisonment as a “Schutzhaeftling” in the “Polizeigefaengnis Rossauer Kaserne” in 1938, he married Berta Goldmann, and escaped to Anvers, Belgium, from where he planned his immigration to the US. In 1939 he finally left Europe with the help of false papers and a ship bound for New York.Berta Wachs née Goldmann was born on October 10th 1914 in Vienna. She studied at the “Hochschule fuer Welthandel” (University of Economics and Trade) for one year and then worked for different companies as a correspondent. She left Europe in 1939.
