Are traditional thinking and decision-making techniques adequate for developing sustainable water systems?
'The problems we have today cannot be solved by thinking the way we thought when we created them' (Einstein). Many water systems planned or constructed prior to the 1990s did not consider the concept of sustainability and were based on traditional technical thinking, analytical processes and decision-making techniques. The question now is, can we develop sustainable water systems by using the same thinking and decision making techniques? A model has been presented that develops sustainability as a journey, balancing economic, environmental and social factors in both spatial and temporal dimensions. Over time, the number, complexity, variety and interconnectedness of factors required for managing water resource projects have increased. Analytical or economic techniques are no longer sufficient or appropriate, and inputting the data into a black box for analysis would appear unnecessary.Bernadette A. Foley and Trevor M. Daniel
Internal Podalic Version and Extraction the Decreasing Incidence at a General Hospital
During his Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology the author was impressed with the infrequency of internal podalic version and extraction at his institution. This procedure seemed to be relegated to a minor role in the handling of difficult obstetrical problems. The thought occurred that a perusal of the past record of versions at this hospital might in itself give tile clue to the apparent decreasing incidence and also possibly serve as a yardstick of the improvement in obstetrical care In a general hospital. | This study covers the years from January 1, 1926, to July 1, 1948. For purposes of comparison these years are divided into five-year periods, with the exception of the last period concerned, which is two and one-half years in length. The total number of births considered is 21,425 with a total number of 167 versions.ProQuest Traditional Publishing Optio
Problems with use of a Foley catheter in enteral tube feeding
This article discusses the unlicensed use of a Foley catheter in home enteral tube feeding in the community. It is now clear that patients on long-term enteral feeding in the community may require replacement of their feeding tubes due to deterioration, damage or tube dislodgment. Often, these conventional feeding tubes such as percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy and radiologically inserted gastrostomy tubes are replaced with similar tubes or with balloon gastrostomy tubes. However, the use of a Foley catheter in place of conventional feeding tubes as replacement tube has been observed in a number of patients in practice and documented in literature.
The Foley catheter is significantly less expensive and easily accessible than conventional feeding tubes or balloon gastrostomy tubes. However, its use as an enteral feeding tube has implications for practice in terms of its use as unlicensed product, consent, ethics and professional responsibilities. Issues relating to body image and quality of life are also discussed.

Use of Foley catheter in control of internal carotid hemorrhage during endoscopic endonasal surgery
Internal carotid artery (ICA) injuries during endoscopic endonasal surgery (EES) are rare life-threatening events. We describe a technique to manage ICA injuries based on the use of Foley catheters.A 26-year-old female underwent endoscopic transnasal trans-sphenoidal removal of pituitary adenoma. Cerebrospinal fluid leak occurred 4 days postoperatively. During repair procedure, accidental injury of ICA occurred. Emergency nasal packing through positioning of four Foley urologic catheters was successfully performed to stop bleeding. The patient did not report neurologic deficits. In author’s opinion, Foley catheters are suitable to obtain immediate bleeding control since they are rapidly available and easily usable
Three years of teaching using collaborative tools : patterns and lessons learned
The author has taught computer science (Programming 101 and Operating Systems 101) for about fifteen years. He introduced the use of a student-collaborated wiki website for his courses about ten years ago. Then, three years ago, he also began extensively using a collaborative editor (Gobby) in classroom, to let students actively participate during lessons. This paper describes the author’s course “workflow”, summarizes tools (wiki and collaborative editor) functionalities, collects some context pattern and tries to draw a few conclusions (lessons learned) about the course methodology
Author Co-Citation Analysis (ACA): a powerful tool for representing implicit knowledge of scholar knowledge workers
In the last decade, knowledge has emerged as one of the most important and valuable organizational assets. Gradually this importance caused to emergence of new discipline entitled ―knowledge management‖. However one of the major challenges of knowledge management is conversion implicit or tacit knowledge to explicit knowledge. Thus Making knowledge visible so that it can be better accessed, discussed, valued or generally managed is a long-standing objective in knowledge management. Accordingly in this paper author co- citation analysis (ACA) will be proposed as an efficient technique of knowledge visualization in academia (Scholar knowledge workers)
