Issues with Fedora & Hydra, experiences from a research-data-driven implementation
Presentation at Open Repositories 2014, Helsinki, Finland, June 9-13, 2014Fedora Interest Group PresentationsThis proposal is for a session in the Fedora Interest Group to discuss some of the issues the authors found in implementing a research-data focused system using Hydra and Fedora, and to feed-back our experiences to the Fedora Futures project. This could take the form of a conversation, or a panel discussion between Peter Sefton, who will be attending and one or more Hydra/Fedora people about requirements for research data systems, including access-controlled fast batch access to repository items.Sefton, Peter Malcolm (University of Western Sydney, Australia)Gasser Noblia, Gabriel (Intersect, Australia)Cassidy, Steve (Macquarie University, Australia)Berghold, Jared (Intersect, Australia

[Letter] 1846 February 22, Cambridge (Mass.) [to] Geo. W. Greene / Jared Sparks.
Sparks confirms receipt of Greene\u27s letter and the manuscript from the Boston post office by the last steamer. Sparks requests that Greene make out a list of the contents of each chapter. Sparks recommends that Greene refrain from sending a duplicate of the manuscript until confirming the safe delivery of the original. American historian Jared Sparks wrote about the Early Republic period in American history, publishing on Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, and the American Revolution. He also wrote a _Life of Gouverneur Morris_ (1832), and was a professor at Harvard at the time this letter was written (1839-49); he would later assume the duties of President of Harvard (1849-53). The work alluded to here is _The Life of Nathanael Greene, Major-General in the Army of the Revolution_ (1867-71). George Washington Greene (1811-1883) was an author, educator and historian

The Human Communication Science Virtual Lab (HCS vLab): A repository microclimate in a rapidly evolving research-ecosystem
Presentation at Open Repositories 2014, Helsinki, Finland, June 9-13, 2014General Track Papers and PanelsThe session was recorded and is available for watching (this presentation starts at 0:00:30)The HCS vLab represents a new kind of data driven research collaboration environment built around a repository of human communication data, from research collections in a broad range of fields. The repository contains text, audio and video data as well as annotations which describe the data, with a discovery search/browse interface. The main function of the lab is to provide a platform data via a rich programming interface (API), and via a workflow engine which allows a large cross-disciplinary research community to run combinations of tools on the data. The presentation will cover vLab’s genesis as an Australian Government funded project led by the University of Western Sydney. We will provide a walk-through of the functionality of the lab including showing how familiar repository functionality such as search-and-browse is linked to the creation of stable, citable collections known as “item lists”, and how item lists can be processed and analysed in various ways and how this fits in to the research lifecycle including how data and publications will be linked and cited, and explore the relationship between the lab and other scholarly infrastructure such as institutional repositories.Sefton, Peter Malcolm (University of Western Sydney, Australia)Estival, Dominique (University of Western Sydney, Australia)Cassidy, Steve (Macquarie University, Australia)Burnham, Denis (University of Western Sydney, Australia)Berghold, Jared (Intersect Australia

Should Pornography that Patently Objectifies Women be Banned?
The debate around banning pornography that objectifies women fractured the feminist movement. Future attempts to outlaw pornography will follow the precedent set forth in Osbourne v. Ohio and attempt to ban pornography in order to protect public health and safety.

Technical Direction of Shakespeare in Love
This document is a thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the Master of Fine Arts degree in theatre. It is a detailed account of author Jared Shofstall’s technical direction process for Minnesota State University, Mankato’s production of Shakespeare in Love in the fall of 2019. This thesis chronicles the author’s process from pre-production through post production in five chapters: an early production analysis and a process development analysis. Appendices and works cited are included
