No full textBeim "Gorilla Journal" handelt es sich um die Mitgliederzeitschrift des "Gorilla und Regenwald Direkthilfe e.V." Die Hefte erscheinen halbjährich und sind seit dem Jahr 1999, in englischer und deutscher Sprache verfügbar. Das Gorilla Journal informiert über Aktivitäten des Vereins und berichten aus den unterstützten Schutzprojekten, sowie über weitere Projekte die mit der Arbeit zusammenhängen. Auch Aktionen der Mitglieder und Freunde werden vorgestellt. Auszug aus der Selbstdarstellung des Vereins "Rettet den Regenwald e.V." Unser Ziel: Wir wollen das Überleben der Berggorillas und anderer bedrohter Gorillapopulationen sichern. Dies versuchen wir auf mehreren Wegen zu erreichen. Keine Gorillas ohne Wald: Der Regenwald ist der Lebensraum der Gorillas, und in vielen Gebieten geht die größte Gefahr für sie von der Vernichtung dieses Lebensraum aus. Wir wollen daher die Zerstörung der Wälder verhindern, vor allem in sehr dicht besiedelten Gebieten, wo nur noch kleine Waldflächen erhalten sind. Weiterhin fördern wir die Aufforstung abgeholzter Areale mit heimischen Baumarten. Mit den Menschen, nicht gegen sie: Eine sehr wichtige Aufgabe ist die Unterstützung und Aufklärung der Menschen am Rand der Schutzgebiete bzw. im Lebensraum der Gorillas. Durch den Schutz der Wälder sichern sie nicht nur das Überleben der Tiere, sondern auch ihr eigenes. Wir unterstützen daher Projekte, die die lokale Bevölkerung über die Bedeutung der Schutzgebiete und die Folgen der Abholzung und anderer schädlicher Folgen der Waldnutzung aufklären. Wir unterstützen die Wildhüter, die entscheidend zum Schutz der Gorillas beitragen, regelmäßig mit Ausrüstung, damit sie in den fast undurchdringlichen Wäldern arbeiten können. Auch in Kriegszeiten bemühen wir uns, den Kontakt zu den Wildhütern und Nationalparkverantwortlichen zu halten. Sie versuchen selbst unter lebensgefährlichen Bedingungen, so lange wie möglich regelmäßige Patrouillen durchzuführen und den Gorillas ein Mindestmaß an Schutz zu gewährleisten. Für die Berggorilla & Regenwald Direkthilfe bedeutet Naturschutz nicht nur, die natürlichen Lebensräume zu bewahren, sondern auch, darauf hinzuarbeiten, dass die einheimische Bevölkerung die Schutzprojekte akzeptiert, sie aktiv unterstützt und von ihnen profitiert. Durch die ehrenamtliche Tätigkeit aller Beteiligten können wir garantieren, dass die Spenden bei den jeweiligen Projekten ankommen. Wir verfolgen in unserer Arbeit kein starres Konzept, sondern entscheiden individuell, schnell und unbürokratisch, entsprechend der jeweiligen Situation und den Bedürfnissen.Self-portrayal of the "Bergorilla & Regenwald Direkthilfe e.V.": Our Mission Since 1984, the Berggorilla & Regenwald Direkthilfe has been dedicated to the conservation of gorillas, especially the mountain gorillas, and their habitats. The Board consists of three honorary members who contribute their skills and experience in different disciplines. As project planning has to incorporate not only biological but also economic, social and political aspects, this multidisciplinary approach is very important. We focus our work on the eastern gorillas by supporting projects contributing to the conservation of these animals. Occasionally, we also support projects for the conservation of certain populations of western gorillas that are particularly at risk. In addition, we support research activities of (predominantly local) scientists. With competent members the Berggorilla & Regenwald Direkthilfe also takes part in population censuses and ecological studies. Finally, we provide necessary equipment to support the important work of the rangers. Whenever possible, we cooperate with other international organisations also concerned with the conservation of the last remaining mountain gorillas. We consider a constant exchange of information between all parties working for the threatened gorillas as very important. Another important goal of our organisation is raising the general publics awareness of the problems of gorilla conservation and the changing situation in habitat countries. One way of doing this is through our newsletter Gorilla Journal, which was published for the first time in 1992. It is printed twice per year in German and English. Our work is financed by donations and members contributions. We are recognized as a non-profit organisation in Germany
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
