Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Untersuchung Photoadressierbarer Polymere im Hinblick auf Elektrooptische Anwendungen
Get PDFDie technologische Nutzung des Lichts, die in den nächsten Jahrzehnten in immer neue Bereiche Einzug halten wird, hängt nicht nur von der Weiterentwicklung der Lichtquellen sondern auch maßgeblich von der Erforschung spezieller Materialien ab, mit denen Licht kontrolliert und beeinflusst werden kann. Eine wichtige Rolle spielt dabei z. B. die Photosensitivität, bei der ein Material seine optischen Eigenschaften, wie den Brechungsindex oder die Absorption, unter dem Einfluss von Licht ändert. Für die Verknüpfung von Optik und Elektronik hat der elektrooptische oder Pockels-Effekt eine besondere Bedeutung. Bei diesem ändert ein Material seinen Brechungsindex durch ein angelegtes elektrisches Feld. Durch diesen Effekt lassen sich z. B. in der optischen Datenübertragung durch elektrooptische Modulatoren Informationen auf eine Lichtwelle aufprägen. Photoadressierbare Polymere weisen beide Effekte auf, sie sind photosensitiv und elektrooptisch. Das für die optische Datenspeicherung entwickelte Seitenkettenpolymer enthält dipolare Farbstoffmoleküle ("Chromophore"), die durch Licht ihre Struktur ändern können ("cis-trans-Isomerie"). Diesen Effekt kann man zur Erzeugung einer großen Doppelbrechung nutzen, indem man das Material mit polarisiertem Licht beleuchtet. Auch durch ein starkes elektrisches Feld lassen sich die dipolaren Chromophore ausrichten ("polen"), wodurch in diesem Fall die Inversionssymetrie gebrochen wird und das Polymer einen großen Pockels-Effekt zeigt. In Hinblick auf die Optimierung der Ausrichtung der Chromophore sowie eine technische Nutzung der photoadressierbaren Polymere ist eine Kenntnis der elektrischen Eigenschaften von besonderer Bedeutung. Im Allgemeinen wird die Leitfähigkeit in nominell nicht leitenden Polymeren durch Sprünge von freien Ladungsträgern (Elektronen, Löcher), sog. "Hopping"-Prozessen bestimmt. Durch die Ausrichtung der Chromophore wird die Sprung-Wahrscheinlichkeit erhöht und damit auch die Leitfähigkeit des Polymers. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit werden die photoadressierbaren Polymere mit Hilfe der dielektrischen Spektroskopie untersucht. Dabei wird die thermische Änderung der Leitfähigkeit in Abhängigkeit von der Polungstemperatur und vom Chromophorgehalt bestimmt. Die Untersuchungen zeigen, dass Ionen die Leitfähigkeit dominieren, dass ihre Beweglichkeit aber von der Struktur des Polymers abhängt. Die Ionen gelangen durch das zur Präparation der Proben notwendige Lösungsmittel in das Material. Erst bei Temperaturen, die weit höher als die Glasübergangstemperatur sind, bildet sich eine flüssigkristalline Phase des Polymers aus, durch die die Sprungwahrscheinlichkeit deutlich ansteigt, so dass der "Hopping"-Prozess die elektrische Leitung bestimmt. Die technische Nutzung des Pockels-Effekts und die guten Materialeigenschaften bzgl. der Verarbeitung der photoadressierbaren Polymere werden in einem großflächigen elektrooptischen Fabry-Perot-Modulator demonstriert. Dieser besteht aus zwei dielektrischen Spiegeln, die mit dem Polymer beschichtet werden und eine aktive Fläche von ca. 3 cm x cm besitzen. Dabei können Modulationseffizienzen bis zu 1 % bei einer effektiven Modulationsspannung von 20 V für Licht der Wellenlänge 1.55 µm beobachtet werden. Zusätzlich wird ein neuartiges Verfahren zur Bestimmung des elektrooptischen Koeffizienten vorgestellt und eingesetzt: Durch die Kombination einer abstands- und einer wellenlängenabhängigen Messung der transmittierten Intensität des Fabry-Perot-Modulators ergibt sich ein Pockels-Koeffizient von -7 pm/V für die gepolten Polymerschichten. Mit der Herstellung eines integriert-optischen Mach-Zehnder-Modulators für Licht der Wellenlänge 1.55 µm kann gezeigt werden, dass man mit den photoadressierbaren Polymeren auch komplexe Lichtwellenleiter erzeugen kann. Dabei wurde ein nass-chemisches Lithographie-Verfahren angewendet. Durch eine lokale Beleuchtung der Struktur mit einem zusätzlichen Laser werden die Isomerie-Eigenschaften der Polymere in Echtzeit nachgewiesen. Die Photosensitivität wird auch bei der Herstellung von Streifenwellenleitern durch Licht ausgenutzt. In eine Schicht photoadressierbarer Polymere wird mit Hilfe einer normalen Kaltlichtquelle und einer Lithographiemaske eine Wellenleiterstruktur eingeschrieben. Damit eröffnet sich z. B. durch eine zusätzliche Polung der Proben die Möglichkeit eines sehr unkomplizierten Verfahrens zur Herstellung von integriert-optischen Komponenten wie einem durchstimmbaren Wellenlängenfilter oder einem elektrooptischen Mach-Zehnder-Modulator. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit konnten die elektrischen Eigenschaften der photoadressierbaren Polymere näher bestimmt werden. Damit können künftig die Polung der Chromophore und damit die Pockels-Koeffizienten verbessert werden. Durch die Demonstration einiger Anwendungen wird das große Anwendungspotenzial der photoadressierbaren Polymere unterstrichen

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
