Entrevista com Olga Savary
Overview As a pioneer of the erotic poetry in Brazil, the poetry artist (as she prefers to be referred to), writer, journalist, and translator Olga Savary has been working in translations of major literature masterpieces, in addition to many prizes awarding and recognition for her own work. She is the most celebrated translator for Pablo Neruda’s in Brasil, although she has also translated other relevant Hispano-American literature authors, e.g., Octavio Paz, Carlos Fuentes, Julio Cortázar, Mario Vargas Llosa, and Laura Esquivel. In 1980, she was awarded the Odorico Mendes Translation Prize, from the Academia Brasileira de Letras, for her version of “Conversa na Catedral” (Conversation in the Cathedral by Mário Vargas Llosa). In 1994, she was awarded the Jabuti Translation Prize for her version of “Como água para chocolate” (Like Water for Chocolate: A Novel in Monthly Installments with Recipes, Romances, and Home Remedies by Laura Esquivel). She also performed indirect translations of great haiku masters: Bashô, Buson, and Issa.In an exclusive interview at her apartment in Rio the Janeiro, in spite of her 84 years, the author tells us about her journey as a translator, filling up the narrative with spirited and ironic storiesPioneira da poesia erótica no Brasil, a poeta (como prefere ser chamada), escritora, jornalista e tradutora Olga Savary há mais de quatro décadas vem trabalhando em traduções de grandes obras literárias, ademais de contar com inúmeros prêmios e reconhecimentos por sua obra própria.

Does experience in hysteroscopy improve accuracy and inter-observer agreement in the management of abnormal uterine bleeding?
Hysteroscopic reliability may be influenced by the experience of the operator and by a lack of morphological diagnostic criteria for endometrial malignant pathologies. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy and the inter-observer agreement (IOA) in the management of abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) among different experienced gynecologists. Each gynecologist, without any other clinical information, was asked to evaluate the anonymous video recordings of 51 consecutive patients who underwent hysteroscopy and endometrial resection for AUB. Experts (> 500 hysteroscopies), seniors (20-499 procedures) and junior (aecurrency sign19 procedures) gynecologists were asked to judge endometrial macroscopic appearance (benign, suspicious or frankly malignant). They also had to propose the histological diagnosis (atrophic or proliferative endometrium; simple, glandulocystic or atypical endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial carcinoma). Observers were free to indicate whether the quality of recordings were not good enough for adequate assessment. IOA (k coefficient), sensitivity, specificity, predictive value and the likelihood ratio were calculated.Five expert, five senior and six junior gynecologists were involved in the study. Considering endometrial cancer and endometrial atypical hyperplasia, sensitivity and specificity were respectively 55.5 % and 84.5 % for juniors, 66.6 % and 81.2 % for seniors and 86.6 % and 87.3 % for experts. Concerning endometrial macroscopic appearance, IOA was poor for juniors (k = 0.10) and fair for seniors and experts (k = 0.23 and 0.22, respectively). IOA was poor for juniors and experts (k = 0.18 and 0.20, respectively) and fair for seniors (k = 0.30) in predicting the histological diagnosis.Sensitivity improves with the observer's experience, but inter-observer agreement and reproducibility of hysteroscopy for endometrial malignancies are not satisfying no matter the level of expertise. Therefore, an accurate and complete endometrial sampling is still needed
Bonaparte Napóleon közel-keleti expedíciója a vágyak egzotikuma és a valóság tükrében avagy Egyiptom három Savary olvasatában
The records of travellers greatly shaped the image of Egypt formed during the French expansion at the end of the 18th century. They were either intellectual or military travellers, who had their own attitudes and points of view that influenced their observations. The intellectual type was motivated by gathering scientific data, even though these travels often had political or diplomatic aspects. This is also true the other way around, a diplomatic mission in the early modern period always had intellectual and cultural results, partly due to the new knowledge acquired during these missions. The origins of this point of view date back to the 16th century, but it arguably reached its peak during Napoleon Bonaparte’s Egyptian campaign. In the eyes of Europe Egypt was synonymous with the wonder of secrets ready to be uncovered ever since the Renaissance. This study examines the changes in the image of Egypt through three works created in different eras and contexts. François Savary de Brèves (1560–1628) travelled the Middle East as a successful diplomat, and during these travels became a knowledgeable Orientalist, who devoted the last decades of this life to making the science and culture of the “Orient” more widely known. The writer and Egyptologist ClaudeEtienne Savary (1750–1788) spoke perfect Arabic, and his 1776-1777 journey to Egypt can be considered one of the first literary journeys to Egypt, long before Chateaubriand and Lamartine. In his highly influential Letters, the man of the Enlightenment examines the monumental relics and the contemporary society of a non-European, but nonetheless ancient civilization, and creates the idyllic, desire-driven image of Egypt. The third author, Anne Jean Marie René Savary (1774–1833), who later became Napoleon’s Minister of Police, was an officer in the Egyptian campaign. As a member of the occupying force, he became the chronicler of the French regime in Egypt. However, his account of the French administration and modernization efforts fails to mention most of the problems (being one of the precursors of the later colonial “quest for civilisation”) and proves inadequate when contrasted with other sources
A Distributed Hydrological Modelling System to Support Hydrological Production in Northern Environments under Current and Changing Climate Conditions
The overarching goal of this project was to implement a distributed hydrological modelling system to support hydroelectric production in Yukon under current and changing climate conditions. Building from previous collaboration between YU and YEC, the project has increased the capacity for short and mid-term inflow forecasts for the Whitehorse (including Marsh Lake), Aishihik and Mayo Facilities and assess potential change in flow volume and extreme events due to climate change in terms of severity, timing and frequency.ReportThis report, including any associated maps, tables and figures (the “Information”) conveys general comments and observation only. Dynamical Splayed Ferromagnetic Ground State in the Quantum Spin Ice Yb2Sn2O7
From magnetic, specific heat, 170Yb Mössbauer effect, neutron diffraction, and muon spin relaxation measurements on polycrystalline Yb2Sn2O7, we show that below the first order transition at 0.15 K all of the Yb3+ ions are long-range magnetically ordered and each has a moment of 1.1?B which lies at ?10° to a common fourfold cubic axis. The four sublattice moments have four different directions away from this axis and are therefore noncoplanar. We term this arrangement splayed ferromagnetism. This ground state has a dynamical component with a fluctuation rate in the megahertz range. The net ferromagnetic exchange interaction has an anisotropy that favors the local threefold axis. We discuss our results in terms of the phase diagram proposed by Savary and Balents [ Phys. Rev. Lett. 108 037202 (2012)] for a pyrochlore lattice of Kramers 1/2 effective spins.RST/Radiation, Science and TechnologyApplied Science
Author name extraction in blog web pages: a machine learning approach
International audienceThis paper presents research results concerning the automatic extraction of author names that are explicitly mentioned in blog web pages. It shows that some NLP pre-preprocessing stages (NE recognition, coreference resolution) prior to a SVM classification have a positive impact on accuracy.
