Type 2 diabetes is a chronic disease requiring careful management and monitoring. There is an association between lower socioeconomic status and increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes and experiencing complications. There is evidence that technology, specifically health apps, can be effective in assisting in diabetes education and self-management; however, not much is known about predictors of health app use in this population. This study aimed to explore predictors of app use in people with type 2 diabetes in relation to the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2.
Methods
Predictors of health app use in people with type 2 diabetes were analyzed using a mixed-methods approach. The sample was from the observational, longitudinal Real People with Diabetes Study population. Survey data were collected and evaluated for predictors of health app use. Statistical analysis was run using SPSS 25 and 26. Interviews focused on the use of technology and tracking to manage diabetes were also conducted with 35 participants. The interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and thematically analyzed.
Results
A total of 48 participants were included in the quantitative analysis. Binary logistic regression showed that effort expectancy was the strongest predictor of health app use (β = 1.23; p =.056). Interviews were conducted with 19 app users and 16 non-app users. Important themes such as tracking, accountability, convenience, and social support were mapped to the constructs of performance expectancy, social influence, and effort expectancy.
Conclusions
Effort expectancy, performance expectancy, and social influence were the most important predictors of health app use in this sample of participants with type 2 diabetes. Future studies should test the utility of these findings in interventions for technology use in diabetes self-care management. While this sample was predominantly white and female and thus not generalizable to all people with type 2 diabetes, these results may have key implications for patients with lower socioeconomic status.Submission published under a 24 month embargo labeled 'U of I Access', the embargo will last until 2023-05-01The student, Holly Stallard, accepted the attached license on 2021-04-02 at 11:39.The student, Holly Stallard, submitted this Thesis for approval on 2021-04-02 at 11:58.This Thesis was approved for publication on 2021-04-12 at 15:52

Data-driven treatment selection for seamless phase II/III trials incorporating early-outcome data
Seamless phase II/III clinical trials are conducted in two stages with treatment selection at the first stage. In the first stage, patients are randomized to a control or one of k > 1 experimental treatments. At the end of this stage, interim data are analysed, and a decision is made concerning which experimental treatment should continue to the second stage. If the primary endpoint is observable only after some period of follow-up, at the interim analysis data may be available on some early outcome on a larger number of patients than those for whom the primary endpoint is available. These early endpoint data can thus be used for treatment selection. For two previously proposed approaches, the power has been shown to be greater for one or other method depending on the true treatment effects and correlations. We propose a new approach that builds on the previously proposed approaches and uses data available at the interim analysis to estimate these parameters and then, on the basis of these estimates, chooses the treatment selection method with the highest probability of correctly selecting the most effective treatment. This method is shown to perform well compared with the two previously described methods for a wide range of true parameter values. In most cases, the performance of the new method is either similar to or, in some cases, better than either of the two previously proposed methods. © 2014 The Authors. Pedodontics.Bibliography included.It is widely recognized that dental plaque is the primary etiologic
factor in the initiation and per·petuation of the inflammatory conditions
affecting the periodontium.
McCall in 1938 was the first to mention that all adult periodontal
disease has its initiation in childhood. This concept was emphasized
by Baer (1957), Parfitt (1963) and lately by Stallard (1967) who stated
that although the periodontal disease begins in childhood it is only
recognized around the third decade when all the changes are irreversible.
Out of periodontosis all the manifestations of periodontal disease
in children that have been reported in the literature are related to
gingivitis (Zappler, 1948; Bruckner, 1956). Gingivitis has been defined
by Massler (1958) as a biphasic phenomenon tending to be papillary, acute
and transient in the child. In contrast with the adult in which it is.
marginal, chronic, and progressive.
Several explanations have been presented in an attempt to clarify
such differences: a) a variation in tooth shape (Stallard, 1974);
b) variation in periodontal structure (Brill, 1958; Bader and Goldhaber,
1965; Baer, 1974); c) host response (Robinson, 1941; Kelsten, 1955;
Hirsch, 1955); d) variations in quality, quantity and pathogenicity.of
the plaque (De Araujo et al 1964). It has been demonstrated that in a
shallow sulcus gram positive aerobic bacteria dominate specially non
hemolytic and alpha hemolytic streptococci. As the sulcus deepened the
bacterial population increased. Filamentous and gram negative flora ... [TRUNCATED
Integrated risk assessment for the natomas basin (California) analysis of loss of life and emergency management for floods
This article assesses the risk to life for the Natomas Basin, a low-lying, rapidly urbanizing region in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta in California. Using an empirical method, the loss of life is determined for a flood (high water), seismic, and sunny-day levee breach scenario. The analysis indicated that more than 1000 fatalities may occur in the flood scenario and that there is a high flood risk compared to similar systems (such as dams and flood-prone areas in the Netherlands). Findings show that risk to life highly depends on evacuation effectiveness. The evacuation and emergency management system (EEM) was further analyzed through interviews with regional emergency managers and training exercise evaluation reports. Using an analytic framework, critical factors that affect EEM performance and reliability were identified. Results indicate a need to assess EEM performance to improve preparedness and reduce the risk to life. Findings from the investigation contribute to more integrated risk analyses of both the technical and management components for engineered systems.Hydraulic EngineeringCivil Engineering and Geoscience

Hausdorff dimensions of escaping sets of transcendental entire functions
Suppose that f and g are transcendental entire functions, each with a bounded set of singular values, and that f and g are affinely equivalent. We show that the escaping sets of f and g have the same Hausdorff dimension.
Using a result of the second author, we deduce that there exists a family of transcendental entire functions for which the escaping set has Hausdorff dimension equal to one
Kinetics of Deoxyribonucleic Acid Synthesis within the Inner Enamel Epithelium
