The Impact of strategic implementation on the employees and contractors of the Hewlett-Packard Company.

    No full text
Conducted within the global corporation of the Hewlett-Packard Company, (HP),this research examines employee and contractor responses to strategic implementation. The research environment is a relatively small UK group withinthe corporation that has continuously experienced significant change as new strategies were implemented. Employee and contractor responses to three separate cycles of change are analysed together with data drawn from the wider corporation by using a psychological contract framework, semi-structured interviewing, a research diary and secondary data from the literature and electronic sources. The research is essentially qualitative but draws on quantitative data where appropriate. A case study approach within an action research paradigm is the chosen methodology to allow consideration and triangulation of multiple sources of data relevant to the natural workplace setting. The research has confirmed a change from old or original psychological contracts to new contracts where employees and contractors are more insecure in, and more cynical of, their employment. This change is perceived as a violation of their psychological contract and is causing employees and contractors to adopt a more mercenary approach to their employment with HP. The special bond between HP and its employees generated by the values and egalitarian working environment created by its founders has been broken by new leadership. Acquisition of the Compaq Computer Company has further impacted employees and contractors resulting in declining morale and increasing scepticism about its proposed benefits. Indeed the very legitimacy of the acquisition and the leadership of HP are being questioned as HP changes to a new form. According to the founders, the values established that made HP successful in its first fifty years were expected to continue for at least another fifty years. This research shows how changing these values has collectively impacted employees and contractors resulting in a major threat to the continuing existence of HP in its present form

Selecting and employing a CRM process to improve the SPS – printing service for Hewlett Packard

    No full text
The purpose of this thesis was to study and execute a CRM-process to efficiently acquire data re-garding the functioning of the Smart Printing Services (SPS) for Hewlett Packard Finland. The idea was to collect as much qualitative data as possible to produce a presentation for Hewlett Packard Europe and then for the author to present the findings to them through a conference call. The initial goal would be to improve the Smart Printing Services based on the findings from the survey. The study was implemented using a customer satisfaction survey via a direct one-to-one telephone conversation with a total of 26 end-customers of the SPS printing service. The method was decided by the author of the thesis but the original idea came from the manager of the author in Hewlett Packard during the time the author spent there as a trainee. The author used CRM theories, such as quality and methods of data collection, from a selection of books and articles and applied them in the method selection process. This resulted in selecting the CRM method (the survey) to collect data regarding improvements to be made to the service. The study includes thorough analysis of a CRM process and an overview regarding the existing SPS customer base in Finland. A telephone survey would increase customer loyalty and contract renewal rate for SPS. Each time if the author found one of the customers had an issue regarding the SPS contract, this matter would be taken directly into management and handled however necessary by the author and the other SPS employees in Hewlett Packard. Based on the findings form the study, most customers were indeed satisfied with the SPS printing service offered by HP. The significance of the utilization of the CRM process in the Smart Printing Service is that HP Finland now has a nation-wide service improvement process that can be used on a quarterly basis to gather feedback from the service users. The immediate response from the SPS management was to: upsell more devices within the existing customer base, expand sales through partners and to provide more visibility and training for their sales force and to identify new partners and customers for SPS. The thesis went through specific customer responses as well as through general analysis by the author and SPS staff regarding their responses.

Genetic Algorithms: Genesis of Stock Evaluation

    No full text
The uncertainty of predicting stock prices emanates pre-eminent concerns around the functionality of the stock market. The possibility of utilising Genetic Algorithms to forecast the momentum of stock price has been previously explored by many optimisation models that have subsequently addressed much of the scepticism. In this paper the author proposes a methodology based on Genetic Algorithms and individual data maximum likelihood estimation using logit model arguing that forecasting discrepancy can be rationalised by combined approximation of both the approaches. Thus this paper offers a methodological overture to further investigate the anomalies surrounding stock market. In the main, this paper attempts to provide a temporal dimension of the methods transposed on recurrent series of data over a fixed window conjecturereGenetic Algorithms, Individual Maximum Likelihood Estimation, Stock Price
