Letter from Tommy Ow, Palace Meat Company, to whom it may concern
Correspondence from Tommy Ow to Whom it May Concern regarding employment history of George Hideo Nakamura. The Japanese American Archival Collection documents the people, places, and daily life of Japanese Americans, primarily those who lived in the once thriving community of pre-war Florin in the Sacramento region, as well as the conditions in American incarceration camps during World War II. The approximately 7,000 original items include personal and official letters, photographs, diaries, arts and crafts, newsletters, textiles, camps artifacts, yearbooks and other publications

Shrink Sleeve Labeling: Fundamental understanding of heat transfer due to the ow field
In this thesis the goal is to grow the fundamental understanding of the Shrink Sleeve Labeling process, speciffically on the steam tunnel equipment. The research is focused on the heat transfer phenomena of the ow on to the bottle. From literature was found that the problem could be split into 3 general domains: 1) free jet ow, 2) heat transfer by impinging jet and 3) condensation heat transfer. The condensation part was seen as an optional part since it would have a big impact on the way the numerical model will be setup. This thesis therefore is setup to handle the free jet ow and heat transfer by an impinging jet.Aerospace Engineering | Aerodynamics and Wind Energ
Experimental investigation of re-entry aerodynamic phenomena - Development of non-intrusive ?ow diagnostics in a Ludwieg tube
To further improve the design of hypersonic vehicles so that fully reusable systems become a reality, the detailed understanding of the ?ow ?eld that the vehicle generates is of paramount importance. The thesis deals with the aspects of experimental ?ow research which includes also the ?ow facility and the measurement techniques. First a description is given of the investigation and assessment of the Hypersonic Test Facility Delft (HTFD), which is the facility used in the experiments. Thereafter two measurement techniques, particle image velocimetry (PIV) and quantitative infrared thermography (QIRT) are introduced that enable to obtain high quality measurement data of the hypersonic ?ow ?eld generated by the HTFD. In the remainder of the thesis two important ?ow phenomena, shock wave boundary layer interaction and boundary layer transition, have been investigated using PIV and QIRT that are of great importance for re-entry vehicles.AerodynamicsAerospace Engineerin
Numerical and experimental investigation on the resistance of a human upper airway: A study to decrease pressure loss by the introduction of a swirling flow
This report comprises the research entitled 'Numerical and experimental investigation on the resistance of a human upper airway'. The objective of this research is: To investigate the effects of a swirl producing inlet on the pressure drop in a simplified human upper airway model at high ow rates, by means of numerical simulations and experiments. In the literature study done by the author Hak (2014b) it is found that during exercise up to 15% of the maximum oxygen uptake (V O2;max) is spent by the breathing muscles. The breathing muscles support the breathing process by moving the diaphragm, creating a low pressure in the thoracic region, thereby starting the inflow of air. Since the human upper airway is featured by a complex shape, associated with highly three-dimensional ow patterns, it has a relatively high ow resistance compared to the remainder of the airways. If the ow pattern would be influenced by passive ow control in the form of a breathing aid, the pressure drop could be reduced, thereby decreasing the demand on the breathing muscles. The result is that more O2 can be used in the skeletal muscles and thus the anaerobic-threshold is postponed. This lead to the following main research question: What kind of swirl generating mouthpiece device can influence the inhaled ow, such that a pressure drop reduction is achieved, during intensive exercise? The research started off with an identification and simulation of the the upper airway ow. Typical human upper airway ow behavior which cause losses in pressure are found to be jetlike ow, re-circulating ow, detached ow, secondary ows such as Dean ow. If the upper airway is highly idealized, it can be seen as 'elbow pipe', a pipe with a 90o bend. Dean vortices and boundary layer separation in bent pipe ow are responsible for pressure losses. For the setting up of the simulation, the process of breathing is translated into boundary conditions. Simpli_cations and assumptions are done to the usual periodic behavior of breathing: a stationary inhalation rate is assumed, and only inspiration is considered. The compliance of the airway is not taken into account for simplicity and the ow rate is based on that of an exercising male adultAerospace Engineerin
Estudios de cronología relativa: el tercer alargamiento compensatorio y la monoptongación de /ej/, /ow/
International audienceThis paper deals with the problematic quality of the secondary long-mid vowels as a result of the third compensatory lengthening in Bartonks Doris media and Cyrenaean. The author first examines the data of these dialects in order to stablish the relative chronology between this process and the monophthongization of /ej/, /ow/; secondly, he proposes a new tripartite classification of the greek dialects as far as these two variables are concerned

Dr. Ow-It-Hurts and the translation of fictional languages targeted at child readers
The thesis focuses on the analysis of three Czech translations of the book Ow-It-Hurts by Russian author Korney Chukovsky. Emphasis is placed on passages that feature a fictional animal language and literary onomastics. The objective of this thesis is to compare the original with translations by three Czech translators, with the primary criterion being the accessibility and comprehensibility of the translation for Czech child readers. The thesis also introduces the linguistic phenomenon of fictional languages in literature and the associated translation methods and solutions. The empirical part includes an experiment with children aimed at determining which translation is the most accessible and comprehensible for young readers. Customized questionnaires are used as the research method. Key Words: children's literature, fairy tale, Ow-It-Hurts, fictional language, Newmark's model of translation criticism
