Black women and the ministry of administration, 1987

Purpose: This study was undertaken, in response to a need of long standing, to raise the consciousness of the church regarding her need for more effective administration of the ministry. Simultaneously, the purpose is to identify and bring recognition to a ready source capable of addressing this needblack women in administration. Goal: The desired goal is to provide a basis for affirming the gift of administration as an appropriate ministry for women and an essential ministry for the church and, utilizing the theology of administration, propose an adult education model of effective training for the ministry of administration. The Problem: This study addresses the problem of ineffective administration which I argue is directly related to the life, vitality and growth of the church and the involvement of members of the church. The church has not validated the ministry of administration though the need is evidenced by ineffective administrative operations of many church leaders. The gift of administration has been underutilized as an intentional ministry of major importance for the enabling and empowering of women to share their several gifts in the programmatic, coordinating and implementing operations of the church. Non-involvement is a tragic commentary on those who give leadership to the community of believers. Each year fewer people attend church regularly and even fewer actively participate in significant church relationships. In the male-oriented church, men in leadership have not solved this increasing problem. The revolutionized world is in need of visionary, creative, skilled, and committed black women in administration to cultivate and use their skills for effective ministry. Methodology: A threefold process was used. First, the literature was researched to discover historical, biblical and theological support for black women in the ministry of administration. Secondly, a survey was conducted with selected seminary graduates and non-seminary practitioners to explore their attitudes, philosophies and present administrative roles. Thirdly, a consultation was held with a select group of experienced clergy and lay women currently engaged in significant administrative positions in religious organizations and the church. Problem Solution: As women make their way into significant, responsible Christian leadership positions, they need to be encouraged and equipped to focus their attention on enabling the discovery, utilization and ordering of spiritual gifts in the church and wherever Christians are living out their faith in everyday life. Having participated in the revolution to liberate women, Christian women have the challenging opportunity to open doors to significant leadership roles in the church and religious institutions where their administrative ministry is needed. To bring acceptance and recognition by the church of the ministry of administration that it deserves, is a formidable undertaking, but one that must be attempted. Black women have the potential to give leadership to this task. The ministry of administration is a position that needs to be filled. Black women bring to the challenge of administration a history of overcoming obstacles to freedom, of bearing the pain and frustration of triple discrimination; they bring an intuitive problem-solving capability inherent from ingenious slave survival. Black women are among the "49 million women employed in this country who have altered the image of womanhood and changed the way America lives, works and even thinks. Evaluation: The evaluation of this project occurred mainly in consultation with black women leaders who have administration as a major function in their ministry. In the consultation the concept of administration ministr

The wild heart of a wild land. Tra le Alpi albanesi sulle orme di Mary Edith Durham

ENIn 2007 we decided to follow the same route through northern Albania which was covered almost 100 years ago by the victorian traveller Mary Edith Durham, author of the books High Albania and Some Tribal Origins, Laws and Customs of the Balkans. The journey described in High Albania was the culmination of seven years of regular Balkan travels during which she was rewarded with insights into north Albanian life denied to all previous travellers. Unlike her other expeditions in the Balkans, her journey in northern Albania was an existential experience which deeply affected Durham’s perception of the tribespeople’s world and marked a turning point in her life. In the second part of the article some ethnographical aspects which were pointed out by Durham and are still alive in those regions are dealt with. Keywords: Balkan Studies; Cultural Studies; Ethnography; Mary Edith Durham; Albania ITNel 2007 abbiamo deciso di organizzare una spedizione a carattere linguistico e etnogrfico nell’Albania settentrionale sulle orme dell’itinerario percorso quasi 100 anni prima dalla viaggiatrice vittoriana Mary Edith Durham, autrice dei volumi High Albania e Some Tribal Origins, Laws and Customs of the Balkans. An author & a gardener the gardens and friendship of Edith Wharton and Laurence Johnston

In August 1937 a small group of Edith Wharton's intimate friends gathered to pay their last respects at her funeral in France. Among that small group of people was her friend for many years, Lawrence 'Johnnie' Johnston, the creator of two famous gardens, at Hidcote Manor, Gloucestershire, in England and Serre de la Madone, Menton, on the Cote d''zur in the south of France. Wharton and Johnston shared not only a love of nature and gardens but also a shared experience of life. Both were private people who had had very similar childhoods, experiencing the loss of their fathers at an early age. Yet there was one aspect of their lives in which they were very different. Wharton, the writer, chose to expose her innermost thoughts and feelings and was continually in the public eye. Johnston, however, wrote nothing about his gardens, hardly permitted photographs of himself or his gardens and, though he kept an engagement diary, these, with two exceptions, have not survived

    Forecasting Global Flows

The theory suggests that investment activities and monetary policy influence the development of the global business cycle. The oil price and other raw material prices also play a key role in the economic development and there is a co-movement among oil consumption and global output. Therefore, the aim of this study is to explain the development of this set of variables by ARs, small-scale VARs and ECMs. The lag length and the rank of the time series models have been determined using information criteria. Then one-step ahead forecasts have been generated. It was found, that the ARs generate the best forecasts at the beginning of the forecasting horizon. However, when the forecasting horizon increases the VARs outperform the ARs. Comparing the forecasting performance of the ECMs, it was found that the forecasting ability of the ECMs in first differences outperform the level based ECMs when the forecasting horizon increases.International economics, time series models, forecasts, forecast evaluation

Thank you. This collection gathers and annotates letters from avant garde poet and biographer Dame Edith Sitwell to John Gideon Wilson, manager ofJ&E Bumpus Ltd., booksellers in London from 1923 to 1959. They were composed while Sitwell was completing Victoria ofEngland (1936) and writing-among other works-/ Live under a Black Sun (1937), Still Falls the Rain (1942), and Fanfare for Elizabeth (1946). The letters reveal their friendship and their fine taste in judging new authors, including Dylan Thomas. In the 1920s and 1930s Sitwell became notorious for her self-promotion, theatrical readings, and eccentric sense of style. These letters to J.G. Wilson show a fascinating and personal side to a woman who built a contentious literary reputation

The testimony of the universality of thought: Edith Stein’s letters to Roman Ingarden

The core of the article constitute the letters that Edith Stein (who later became St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross) and Roman Ingarden, whom she met in Gottingen, exchanged between 1917 and 1939. When they met they were both students of Edmund Husserl and were among the members of so-called Gottingen Phenomenologists’ Club that was not only of international nature but also accepted females as its members, which was quite an exception in the first two decades of the 20th century. The issues addressed in Stein’s letters to her friend from Poland centered on two aspects: behind-the-scenes functioning of the phenomenologists gathered around their master (Husserl), as well as the inner path in the course of which Stein’s spiritual metamorphosis takes place. It is obvious that with reference to the former issue, the works and the philosophical views of Edmund Husserl served as the source of intellectual inspiration. The young scholar reached beyond them though. Her philosophical achievements as well as her inner development were deeply influenced by another professor of philosophy, Adolf Reinach, thirty four years of age at that time. The latter problematic plane discussed in the letters confirms that “[t]he biography of Edith Stein is one of the most fascinating life stories not only in modern times. It is connected both with the content of her thought as well as with her life path that was bold climbing towards perfection as well as a great transformation; this transformation has been defined both as the grandest and the most complex one since the change that was the part of St Paul’s, or Saul of Tarsus, life” [in: Anna Grzegorczyk, Ponad kulturami. Uniwersalizm Edyty Stein, Poznań 2010, p. 37; own translation]. This duality of thought, seemingly referring to the realms so distant that virtually impossible to combine, become connected by one feature: the author’s universality of thought which points clearly that Edith Stein’s philosophical attitude reaches the intercultural dimension. Consequently, the brilliance of the author and philosopher becomes obvious, and „stems from the unique combination of cognitive passion with transcendent sense” [Ibid, p. 41][email protected] Kardynała Stefana Wyszyńskiego w Warszawie, Wydział Nauk Humanistycznych, Instytut Filologii PolskiejDurczewski J., 1996, Glosy do listów Edyty Stein do Romana Ingardena.
