Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. No full textDie Implementierung interprofessioneller Lehre in die Curricula von Gesundheitsausbildungen und -studiengängen spielt eine Schlüsselrolle darin, Studierende besser auf die interprofessionelle Zusammenarbeit in der Patient*innenversorgung vorzubereiten. Die Entwicklung und Implementierung interprofessioneller Lehre in bestehende Curricula ist jedoch herausfordernd und gemeinsame Lehrveranstaltungen werden in Deutschland bislang nur punktuell umgesetzt. Es besteht ein relevanter Forschungsbedarf in Hinblick auf die Planung und Umsetzung interprofessioneller Lehre. Studentische Partizipation hat für die monoprofessionelle Curriculumentwicklung bereits positive Effekte gezeigt. In dieser Arbeit wird untersucht, welche Effekte studentische Partizipation im Kontext interprofessioneller Curriculumentwicklung haben kann.
Im Rahmen einer explorativen, qualitativen Studie (Behrend et al. 2019a) wurden Fokusgruppendiskussionen mit Studierenden (n = 5) und Hochschulmitarbeitenden (n = 5) durchgeführt, die gemeinsam interprofessionelle Lehre geplant und in Gesundheitsstudiengänge und -ausbildungen implementiert haben. Die berichteten Erfahrungen und Wahrnehmungen der Fokusgruppenteilnehmenden wurden aufgezeichnet und transkribiert. Die Transkripte wurden mittels qualitativer Inhaltsanalyse nach Kuckartz (2016) ausgewertet.
Die qualitative Analyse zeigte auf, dass studentische Partizipation sowohl einen positiven Einfluss auf den Prozess als auch auf die Ergebnisse interprofessioneller Curriculumentwicklung hatte. Als förderliche Faktoren für die studentische Partizipation wurden die Motivation der Studierenden, das Gleichgewicht zwischen Anleitung und selbstbestimmtem Arbeiten und eine hierarchiearme Arbeitsatmosphäre identifiziert. Als Herausforderungen wurden das Risiko von Rollenkonflikten zwischen Hochschulmitarbeitenden und Studierenden sowie das Risiko einer Überforderung der Studierenden genannt.
Die Aussagen, sowohl der Studierenden als auch der Hochschulmitarbeitenden, weisen darauf hin, dass sich die Studierenden durch die Mitarbeit in den interprofessionellen Projekten professionell weiterentwickeln, indem sie sich Wissen und Fähigkeiten aneignen, sowie ihre Haltung zur interprofessionellen Zusammenarbeit reflektierten. Ihre Mitarbeit hatte außerdem einen motivierenden Einfluss auf die Hochschulmitarbeitenden. Diese sahen in den Studierenden zukünftige Botschafter für die interprofessionelle Zusammenarbeit in der Praxis.
In dieser qualitativen Untersuchung konnten aus den berichteten Erfahrungen und Wahrnehmungen der Fokusgruppenteilnehmenden wesentliche positive und komplementäre Effekte studentischer Partizipation für den Prozess und die Ergebnisse interprofessioneller Curriculumentwicklung abgleitet werden. Es wurden förderliche Faktoren für die studentische Partizipation identifiziert, die zukünftig in Projekten zu interprofessioneller Curriculumentwicklung aktiv berücksichtigt werden sollten. Die teilnehmenden Studierenden entwickeln sich professionell weiter und reflektierten ihre Haltung zur interprofessionellen Zusammenarbeit. Dadurch könnten sie in ihren zukünftigen beruflichen Tätigkeitsfeldern eine wichtige Rolle in der Verbesserung interprofessioneller Zusammenarbeit einnehmen.
Die Ergebnisse dieser Arbeit erweitern Befunde zu positiven Effekten studentischer Partizipation bei monoprofessioneller Curriculumentwicklung auf den interprofessionellen Kontext. Sie können anderen Einrichtungen als Stimulus und Orientierung dienen, Studierende zukünftig aktiver in die (Weiter-)Entwicklung interprofessioneller Lehre einzubeziehen.The implementation of interprofessional education into the curricula of health professional education plays a key role in preparing students for interprofessional collaboration in patient care. However, the development and implementation of interprofessional education in existing curricula is challenging and thus far rarely implemented in Germany. There is a need for research with regard to planning and implementing interprofessional education. Student participation has already shown positive effects for the mono-professional curriculum development. This paper examines the effects of student participation in the context of interprofessional curriculum development.
In an exploratory, qualitative study (Behrend et al. 2019a), focus group discussions were conducted with students (n = 5) and faculty members (n = 5) who jointly planned and implemented interprofessional education into health professions education. The experiences and perceptions of the focus group participants were audio-recorded and transcribed. The transcripts were analyzed qualitatively according to Kuckartz (2016).
The qualitative analysis showed that student participation was perceived as having a positive influence on the process and the results of interprofessional curriculum development. The students' motivation, the balance between clarity on tasks and student autonomy and a low-hierarchy team atmosphere were identified as facilitating factors for student participation. Challenges included the risk of role conflicts between faculty members and students and the risk of over demanding of the students.
The statements, from students and faculty members, indicate that students develop professionally by working in interprofessional projects due to acquiring knowledge and skills, and reflecting on their attitude towards interprofessional collaboration. The students also had a motivating influence on the faculty members. They perceived the students as future ambassadors for interprofessional collaboration in the workplace.
In this qualitative study, the reported experiences and perceptions of the focus group participants, provided multiple qualitative evidence for a positive, complementary effect of student participation in interprofessional curriculum development. Facilitating factors for student participation were identified, which should be actively nurtured in future interprofessional curriculum development. The participating students developed professionally and reflected on their attitude towards interprofessional collaboration. Through this, they may play an important role in improving interprofessional collaboration in their future workplaces.
The results of this work extend findings on the positive effects of student participation in mono-professional curriculum development onto the interprofessional context. This may motivate other schools to involve students more actively in the development of interprofessional education

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
