A Thesis Submitted to the Faculty of Agriculture Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE (MS) IN AGRICULTURAL BOTANY SEMESTER: JANUARY-JUNE, 2015The experiment was conducted at the Agricultural Botany experimental field of Sher-e Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), to study the effect of sowing times on the morpho-physiological attributes of an exotic (China) hybrid rice variety in Bangladesh. Five treatments was considered regarding 5 sowing dates or transplanting dates viz. (i) S1 = 1st sowing at 1st January 2015; Transplanted at 21st January, (ii) S2 = 2nd sowing at 21st January; Transplanted at 11th February, (iii) S3 = 3rd sowing 11th February; Transplanted at 3rd March, (iv) S4 = 4th sowing 3rd March; Transplanted at 23rd March and (v) S5 = 5th sowing 23rd March; Transplanted at 13th April. Data were recorded on different growth, yield and yield contributing parameters to examine the effect of sowing times on the morpho-physiological attributes of the tested variety. The studied parameters were significantly affected by different sowing times or transplanting times. Results revealed that different parameters regarding morpho-physiological attributes, the seeds of the tested variety sown at 1st January 2015 and transplanted at 21st January (S1) furnished the best results in respect of the highest length of panicle at harvest (26.39 cm), weight of filled grain hill-1 (38.87 g), weight of filled grain plot-1 (2.18 kg), 1000 seed weight (36.00 g), grain yield ha-1 (3.64 ton) and the highest harvest index (43.46 %) compared to the seedling transplanted on other dates. So, the optimum time of seed sowing in the seed bed can be considered as the first January and transplanting time can be considered as 21 January in Bangladesh to get the highest yield from the tested Chinese rice variety

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

PCF10 Sub-theme: Building Resilience // Bangladesh Open University (BOU) has taken full advantages of the modern ICT based learning education to deliver education during the national and global crisis because of Covid-19 while in Bangladesh, any face-to-face tutorial services on weekends were widely restricted. In the hilly districts, the tutors of BOU used the available technology such as mobile phone, Zoom, Google Meet, WhatsApp, Messengers to contact the students and to keep a close connection with the students to conduct regular classes and to support them mentally while the individuals suffered severe mental isolation and felt a lack of support during Covid-19. This study was initiated to understand how the teachers in the hilly districts used those available technology to reach the learners to deliver quality education and mental support in the pandemic situation. The study was designed both qualitative and quantitative tools such as structured questionnaire, focus group discussions and individual structured interviews etc. used to collect the data. The respondents were learners, parents, tutors, and study centers’ coordinators. There were 77 respondents participated from the hill tracts, Khagrachari District, Rangamati Hill District, and Bandarban District of Bangladesh. The study has found out how the tutors were effectively and successfully supported the learners to continue their learning process and to motivate them towards their lifelong education and how the technologies helped the learners to overcome all barriers during Covid-19 situation. The findings of the report may contribute to build resilient education system and human effort unstoppable in any circumstances. // Paper ID 883

    koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
