Updated search for the flavor-changing neutral-current decay D0→μ+μ- in pp̅ collisions at √s=1.96 TeV
We report on a search for the flavor-changing neutral-current decay D0-->mu+mu- in pp[over-bar] collisions at [sqrt]s=1.96 TeV using 360 pb[superscript -1] of integrated luminosity collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. A displaced vertex trigger selects long-lived D0 candidates in the mu+mu-, pi+pi-, and K-pi+ decay modes. We use the Cabibbo-favored D0-->K-pi+ channel to optimize the selection criteria in an unbiased manner, and the kinematically similar D0-->pi+pi- channel for normalization. We set an upper limit on the branching fraction B(D0-->mu+mu-)<2.1×10-7(3.0×10-7) at the 90% (95%) confidence level.United States. Dept. of EnergyAlfred P. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Search for a Higgs Boson in the Diphoton Final State in pp̅ Collisions at √s=1.96 TeV
A search for a narrow Higgs boson resonance in the diphoton mass spectrum is presented based on data corresponding to 7.0 fb[superscript -1] of integrated luminosity from pp̅ collisions at √s=1.96 TeV collected by the CDF experiment. No evidence of such a resonance is observed, and upper limits are set on the cross section times branching ratio of the resonant state as a function of Higgs boson mass. The limits are interpreted in the context of the standard model and one fermiophobic benchmark model where the data exclude fermiophobic Higgs bosons with masses below 114 GeV/c[superscript 2] at a 95% Bayesian credibility level.Alfred P. Search for the Higgs boson in the all-hadronic final state using the CDF II detector
We report on a search for the production of the Higgs boson decaying to two bottom quarks accompanied by two additional quarks. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of approximately 4 fb[superscript -1] of pp̅ collisions at √s=1.96 TeV recorded by the CDF II experiment. This search includes twice the integrated luminosity of the previous published result, uses analysis techniques to distinguish jets originating from light flavor quarks and those from gluon radiation, and adds sensitivity to a Higgs boson produced by vector boson fusion. We find no evidence of the Higgs boson and place limits on the Higgs boson production cross section for Higgs boson masses between 100 GeV/c[superscript 2] and 150 GeV/c[superscript 2] at the 95% confidence level. For a Higgs boson mass of 120 GeV/c[superscript 2], the observed (expected) limit is 10.5 (20.0) times the predicted standard model cross section.National Science Foundation (U.S.)United States. Observation of the Baryonic Flavor-Changing Neutral Current Decay Λb0→Λμ+μ-
We report the first observation of the baryonic flavor-changing neutral current decay Λ[subscript b][superscript 0]→Λμ[superscript +]μ[superscript -] with 24 signal events and a statistical significance of 5.8 Gaussian standard deviations. This measurement uses a pp̅ collisions data sample corresponding to 6.8 fb[superscript -1] at √s=1.96 TeV collected by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron collider. The total and differential branching ratios for Λ[subscript b][superscript 0]→Λμ[superscript +]μ[superscript -] are measured. We find B(Λ[subscript b][superscript 0]→Λμ[superscript +]μ[superscript -])=[1.73±0.42(stat)±(syst)]×10[superscript -6]. We also report the first measurement of the differential branching ratio of B[subscript s][superscript 0]→ϕμ[superscript +]μ[superscript -], using 49 signal events. In addition, we report branching ratios for B+→K+μ[superscript +]μ[superscript -], B[superscript 0]→K[superscript 0]μ[superscript +]μ[superscript -], and B→K[superscript *](892)μ[superscript +]μ[superscript -] decays.National Science Foundation (U.S.)United States. Exclusion of an Exotic Top Quark with-4/3 Electric Charge Using Soft Lepton Tagging
We present a measurement of the electric charge of the top quark using pp[over-bar] collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.7 fb[superscript -1] at the CDF II detector. We reconstruct tt[over-bar] events in the lepton+jets final state. We use soft lepton taggers to determine the flavor of the b jets, which we use to reconstruct the top quark’s electric charge and exclude an exotic top quark with -4/3 charge at 95% confidence level. This is the strongest exclusion of the exotic charge scenario and the first to use soft leptons for this purpose.United States. Studying the underlying event in Drell-Yan and high transverse momentum jet production at the Tevatron
We study the underlying event in proton-antiproton collisions by examining the behavior of charged particles produced in association with a large transverse momentum jet (~2.2 fb[superscript -1]) or with a Drell-Yan lepton pair (~2.7 fb[superscript -1]) in the Z-boson mass region [70<M(pair)<110 GeV/c[superscript 2]] as measured by CDF at 1.96 TeV center-of-mass energy. We use the direction of the lepton pair or the leading jet in each event to define regions of η[eta]-ϕ[phi] space that are sensitive to the modeling of the underlying event. The data are corrected to the particle level to remove detector effects and are then compared with several QCD Monte Carlo models.United States.
