NS-Provenienzforschung und Restitution: ethische Verpflichtung und strategische Aufgabe für Bibliotheken - am Beispiel der Universitätsbibliothek der Medizinischen Universität Wien
NS provenance research is an ethical obligation and a strategic task for libraries. In 2007 the University Library of the Medical University of Vienna started a
project on NS provenance research in order to identify and restitute books looted during
the NS dictatorship and incorporated into the library holdings. At the University
Library of the Medical University Vienna NS provenance research developed from a project into routine work. A written process documentation depicts the role of the
university library, legal department and rectorate to establish a professional and standardised work flow. Furthermore the paper highlights the importance of interconnecting NS provenance research projects running in several libraries. The results of these projects should be searchable and visible in the library catalogue. Moreover, this information should be made public via publications, presentations and weblogs
