Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Perception of emotional faces and neurofunctional reeducation of communication in autism : behavioral and electrophysiological studies
Cette thèse examine les indices comportementaux et neurophysiologiques reflétant le traitement des visages émotionnels. L’étude de ces indices chez l’adulte et l’enfant ayant bénéficié d’un développement ordinaire conduit à l’élaboration d’un modèle proposant l’intervention séquentielle de différents traitements (analytique, holistique, configural) selon un décours temporel particulier (100ms, 170ms, 220ms). La N170 semble dépendante des capacités émotionnelles des sujets, et son développement serait lié à la maturation de l’exploration visuelle des visages, en lien avec le développement d’une expertise. Les dysfonctionnements de ces indices sont ensuite appréhendés chez des enfants atteints d’autisme. Les résultats suggèrent que les troubles de la perception des émotions faciales puissent trouver leur origine dans un dysfonctionnement majeur des premières étapes sensorielles, limitant l’expérience et donc l’expertise pour les visages. L’observation longitudinale de ces indices au cours d’une Thérapie d’Echange et de Développement confirme l’efficacité des soins non seulement d’un point de vue clinique mais aussi neurophysiologique.This work investigates the behavioral and neurophysiological indices involved in emotional face processing.The study of these indices in healthy adults and typically developing children allows to elaborate a model proposing that different mechanisms (analytic, holistic and configural) succeed one another in a specific timing (100ms, 170ms, 220ms). The N170 seems to be sensitive to the subject’s emotional skills, and its development is linked to the maturation of visual face exploration, related to the acquisition of expertise.The dysfunctions of these indices are then investigated in children with autism. The results suggest that the default of the emotional faces perception could start from atypicalities in visual perceptual processes, affecting the experience and then the expertise for faces. The longitudinal observation of these indices during Exchange and Developmental Therapy confirms both clinical and neurophysiological efficiency of the care
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
Multisensoriality and depth movement in the autistic continuum : behavioral and neurophysiological study
Le fonctionnement sensoriel nous permet d’interagir avec le monde extérieur, il est ainsi étroitement lié au développement de fonctions plus complexes notamment cognitives ou sociales. Le Trouble du Spectre de l’Autisme (TSA) se caractérise par des difficultés dans les interactions sociales, la présence de comportements stéréotypés et plus récemment, par des particularités sensorielles qui s’expriment généralement par des hypo/hypersensibilités sensorielles. Puisque la sensorialité des sujets TSA pourrait contribuer à l’intensité, voire à l’émergence de la symptomatologie autistique, une littérature grandissante y perçoit un potentiel étiologique. Ces particularités sensorielles ont été essentiellement caractérisées à partir d’informations unisensorielles (e.g., visuelles ou auditives). Cependant, les informations qui nous entourent impliquent généralement plus d’une modalité sensorielle à la fois et sont rarement statiques. Ainsi, une attention particulière est à allouer à la manière dont les sujets TSA intègrent des informations multisensorielles (e.g., audiovisuelles) en mouvement. Nous avons plus particulièrement choisi d’étudier le mouvement en profondeur (en approche et en éloignement). Celui-ci permet notamment d’éviter une menace, de poursuivre une cible, lui conférant un rôle important dans nos interactions sociales (e.g., s’approcher pour interagir). En outre, le modèle dimensionnel appliqué au TSA propose une extension du spectre dans la population générale, qui s’exprime par des traits de personnalité autistique. Ainsi, tout individu TSA et non-TSA se placerait sur une distribution/un continuum de traits autistiques.Ainsi, l’objectif de la présente thèse était de caractériser, sur la base d’indicateurs comportementaux et cérébraux, l’intégration multisensorielle (IMS) de mouvements en profondeur tout au long du continuum autistique (dans la personnalité autistique et dans le TSA). Afin de contrôler la composante sociale, des stimuli non sociaux ont été utilisés.Les données comportementales ont révélé davantage d'indices d’IMS dans le groupe à personnalité autistique élevée et dans le groupe TSA, ce qui suggérerait des mécanismes d’IMS communs à ces deux groupes. Toutefois, des comportements d’hyperréactivité face au mouvement audiovisuel ont été retrouvés spécifiquement dans la personnalité autistique élevée comparativement aux sujets à faible personnalité autistique. Cette hyperréactivité n'a pas été retrouvée dans le TSA, laissant ainsi entrevoir que certains processus ne s’exprimeraient pas de façon linéaire le long du continuum. Les données neurophysiologiques ont révélé des différences au niveau des composantes unisensorielles reflétant des niveaux précoces de traitement de l’information. Concernant l’IMS, des différences dès 50 ms post-stimulus ont été mises en évidence ainsi qu’un réseau de l’IMS moins étendu chez les sujets ayant une personnalité autistique élevée comparativement aux sujets ayant une faible personnalité autistique.Les résultats de la présente thèse suggèrent ainsi des particularités dès les premières étapes de traitement de l’information uni et multisensorielle pour l’ensemble du spectre autistique. Ce travail de thèse étaye les théories grandissantes proposant un rôle crucial du fonctionnement sensoriel dans le spectre de l’autisme et marque l’ouverture d’un débat concernant l’application du modèle dimensionnel au TSA.Sensory functioning allows us to interact with the external world and is closely linked to developing complex cognitive and social functions. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has been characterized by difficulties in social interactions, stereotyped behaviors, and, more recently, sensory particularities generally expressed through sensory hypo/hypersensitivities. As the sensory profile of individuals with ASD may contribute to the intensity and emergence of autistic symptoms, a growing body of literature perceives it as a potential etiological factor of ASD. These sensory particularities have been mainly characterized based on unisensory information (e.g., visual or auditory). However, environmental information generally involves more than one sensory modality at a time and is rarely static. Therefore, particular attention should be given to how individuals with ASD integrate multisensory information (e.g., audiovisual) in motion. Specifically, we have chosen to study depth movement (looming and receding). Such a movement is involved in avoiding a threat, pursuing a target, and plays an essential role in our social interactions (i.e., approaching to interact). Furthermore, the dimensional model applied to ASD proposes an extension of the spectrum in the general population, expressed through autistic personality traits. Thus, every individual, whether ASD or non-ASD, would fall on a distribution/continuum of autistic traits.This thesis aimed to characterize the multisensory integration (MSI) of depth movement along the autistic continuum (in autistic personality and ASD) based on behavioral and neurophysiological markers. Non-social stimuli were used to control for the social component.The behavioral data showed higher MSI level in the high autistic personality and the ASD groups, suggesting common MSI mechanisms in these two groups. However, hyperreactivity to audiovisual movements was specifically found in the high autistic personality group compared to individuals with low autistic personality. This hyperreactivity was not found in ASD, suggesting that some processes may not be expressed linearly along the continuum. Neurophysiological data highlighted differences in the unisensory components reflecting early stages of information processing. Concerning the MSI, differences were found as early as 50 ms post-stimulus, as well as a less extensive MSI network in subjects with a high level of autistic traits compared to those with a low level of autistic traits.Thus, this thesis suggests particularities in the early stages of unisensory and multisensory information processing across the autistic spectrum. These results support the growing theories proposing a crucial role of sensory functioning in the autism spectrum and put into question the dimensional models’ use in ASD
