    Author-Topic Modeling of DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology (2008-2017), India

    This study presents a method to analyze textual data and applying it to the field of Library and Information Science. This paper subsumes a special case of Latent Dirichlet Allocation and Author-Topic models where each article has one unique author and each author has one unique topic. Topic Modeling Toolkit is used to perform the author-topic modeling. The study further which considers topics and their changes over time by taking into account both the word co-occurrence pattern and time. 393 full-text articles were downloaded from DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology and were analyzed accordingly. 16 core topics have been identified throughout the period of ten years. These core topics can be considered as the core area of research in the journal from 2008 to 2017. This paper further identifies top five authors associated with the representative articles for each studied year. These authors can be treated as the subject-experts for the modeled topics as indicated. The results of the study can serve as a platform to determine the research trend; core areas of research; and the subject-experts related to those core areas in the field the Library and Information Science in India

    IS THERE ANY ROLE OF INDUCTION CHEMOTHERAPY IN UNRESECTABLE LOCALLY ADVANCED HEAD AND NECK CANCERS: AN INSTITUTIONAL DATA

    Background: Head and neck cancers are very common in India due to habit of betel quid and areca nut chewing along with bidi smoking and alcoholism, with more than half of the patients presenting in locally advanced stage. Chemo-radiotherapy with or without induction chemotherapy is the mainstay of treatment for these patients. We have performed a prospective study to determine the effectiveness of induction chemotherapy followed by concurrent chemo-radiotherapy. Methodology: A total of 20 patients with unresectable locally advanced head and neck cancers were enrolled in the study. Treatment included two cycles of induction chemotherapy with Paclitaxel (135mg/m2, day1) and Cisplatin (40mg/m2 onday1, 2) at an interval of 21days followed by Cisplatin 40mg/m2 weekly along with conventional radiotherapy (70Gy/35#/7weeks). The tumor response and acute toxicities were evaluated. Results: Of the 20 patients, only 8 patients completed the planned treatment schedule. Of the 8 patients, radiological complete response was observed in 5 patients. The partial response was seen in 2 patients. One patient had progressive disease. Few grade 1 and 2 toxicities including skin toxicity, diarrhea, anemia, acute kidney injuryand peripheral sensory neuropathy were observed. Only 4 patients had grade 3 toxicities of acute mucositis, vomiting and neutropenia. Conclusion: Sequential therapy incorporating induction chemotherapy and chemo-radiotherapy appears to be an inferior approach. Further investigations are required to select a better regimen in patients with unresectable locally advanced head and neck cancer

    Societal Response to Developmental Differences and Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment Outcomes

    Recent findings indicate an increased concern that conventional substance abuse treatment models consistently reflect less than satisfactory outcomes when applied to adolescents. This study investigates developmental differences among adolescents and adults as a possible cause of the disparity. The author conducted interviews with substance abuse professionals, developmental psychologists, adolescents in treatment, and adolescents no less than six months out of treatment. Questions focus on assessment agendas, developmental and motivational differences among adolescents and adults, movement along the addiction continuum, developmental tasks of adolescence, and adolescent receptivity. The results of the interviews among each group are compared and consistencies are noted. The implications of any correlation within the noted consistencies are discussed, as well as the implications for social work practice

    Food Experience Design to Prevent Unintended Consequences and Improve Well-being

    Copyright © The Author(s) 2021. This article introduces a novel and comprehensive conceptual framework for designing innovative food experiences that enhance food well-being. We call this framework the novel food experience design. It supports managers in cocreating customer-centric food experiences to limit unintended detrimental consequences and enhance individual and societal food well-being. The novel food experience design (1) employs a systemic (vs. endemic) approach to the innovation process and (2) promotes prioritizing ethical decision-making alongside economic decision-making. Building on insights derived from ecosystem theory and the ethical principles literature, we develop four fundamental propositions to innovate food experiences: do no harm, do good, ensure autonomy, and ensure fairness. Our framework promotes higher levels of individual and societal food well-being than restricted food design innovations, preventing unintended consequences. Finally, we illuminate the implications for service research and practice

    Smart City Projects Evaluation: A Bibliometric Approach

    Smart cities constitute complex ecosystems and urban fabrics, both physical and intangible, which are very promising in terms of improving, among other factors, sustainability, urban liveability, and citizens’ workability. Now, more than ever, smart cities attract considerable attention from both academics and practitioners. This growing interest often focuses on the evaluation of smart city’s development and deployment projects by specifically assessing if these projects successfully contribute to the “intelligence” of a city. The current chapter attempts to further contribute to this research direction. In particular, the chapter accelerates a city’s competencies by emphasizing a smart city projects evaluation framework that emerges from a bibliometric analysis focusing on the plethora of parameters that are set in relevant bibliographic sources with the aim to evaluate the success or not of a smart city. The performed bibliographic analysis highlighted, in terms of evaluating the success of smart city projects, the increased appearance of technical parameters and less interest in social or citizen-centric factors. The results of this study map the major bibliographic trends on the subject of smart cities or projects evaluation or success and, then, highlight the gap of the citizen-based approach in the evaluation of smart cities. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG

    Learning to Engage Citizens to Make Smarter Cities

    The effectiveness of government policies seems to be a function of increasing citizen participation through the active shaping of public policy and public service delivery (Singh & Kaushik, Platform for citizen engagement for good governance in India (pp. 48–66), 2020). Recognizing the importance of civic engagement, as part of participatory urbanism (Rahmat, Open cities | Open data: Collaborative cities in the information era (pp. 107–128). Palgrave, 2019) and collaborative governance (Bartoletti & Faccioli, Partecipazione e Conflitto, 13(2), 1132–1151, 2020), this article attempts to highlight and quantify its role in trying to develop the intelligence of a city. This article is based on two pillars. Initially, it decrypts and analyzes the concept of civic engagement and its potential by mapping the dominant bibliographic trends. It then considers the utilization of civic engagement and its integration in the process of developing the intelligence of a city, via a pilot study, the case of the Thessaloniki metropolitan area. Through its two pillars, this article highlights and quantifies the role of civic engagement in the effort to achieve the intelligence of a city and concludes by proposing actions to strengthen and redefine this role. Finally, it is important to emphasize that this article underlines civic engagement in the decision-making process of the respective municipal council or the phase of consultations and proposals and not at the phase of evaluating implemented smart projects. In other words, this article recognizes the importance of preliminary actions and chooses to focus on their benefits. At the same time, it is based on the fact that nowadays, due to the challenges of COVID-19, residents have recognized more keenly than ever the importance of urban space and the benefits of its proper design, so that they may desire to participate more in its urban processes.     Experimental measurement and numerical modeling of multiphase flow in Middle Bakken

    Includes bibliographical references.2017 Fall.Relative permeability is an extremely useful measure of complex multiphase fluid flow in a porous media, and much effort has been devoted by researchers to determine the factors that control relative permeability. Nevertheless, detailed experimental data especially for unconventional cores is scant in literature, which motivated this research. Specifically, this dissertation addresses and presents the relative permeability end points measured in two Middle Bakken formation cores for three different processes: oil-displacing-water, water-displacing-oil, and gas-displacing-oil using a steady-state method. The Middle Bakken petrophysical properties measured by Weatherford Labs and by the author are also presented. Finally, two conceptual models were proposed to explain the measured end-point relative permeability, and a 2-D lattice Boltzmann simulator was developed to obtain relative permeability curves of a two-dimensional pore geometry generated using Voronoi grid. The contributions of this work include measurements of relative permeability in a tight shale, interpretation of experimental results using pore-scale features of the cores, and lattice Boltzmann simulation

    A STUDY OF ADJUVANT CONCURRENT CHEMO-RADIOTHERAPY WITH CAPECITABINE IN ADENOCARINOMA STOMACH

    Introduction: Adenocarcinoma stomach is one of the leading causes of cancer related mortality in the world. Surgery is an established modality in the management of stomach cancer. Although it is well known that some form of adjuvant therapy is indicated, both chemotherapy and concurrent chemoradiotherapy give equivalent results. Methodology: Our study is a prospective observational study of the stomach cancer patients receiving adjuvant concurrent chemoradiotherapy with capecitabine. A total of 41 patients with stomach cancer undergoing gastric resection with a curative intent were evaluated. Results: With a Median follow up of 13 months, the estimated disease free survival was 21.2 months. Of the 41 patients, only 4 developed metastasis and none of the patients recurred locally. The regimen was well tolerated. Conclusion: Concurrent chemoradiotherapy with capecitabine is well tolerated in our population with minimal side effects and good local control rate. Intensification of chemotherapy might reduce the incidence of metastasis.

    From ugly to attractive: Leveraging anthropomorphism to increase demand for irregular-appearing produce

    Data Availability Statement: The data that support the findings of this study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.Recognizing that the waste of imperfect produce contributes to the global environmental crisis, the authors conduct three studies examining whether retailers can use anthropomorphizing marketing techniques to make irregular-appearing produce more attractive and increase purchase intentions. Based on the exemplar model theory, Study 1 shows that when retailers place googly eyes on pictures of irregular-appearing produce, consumers judge the product according to multiple exemplars as they do when they evaluate humans. The multiple esthetic cues cause them to perceive irregular produce as more attractive. Study 2 replicates Study 1 by using human names as the anthropomorphic cues, demonstrating that anthropomorphism can increase purchase intentions toward irregular-appearing produce. Study 3 further shows that the anthropomorphism effects hold for irregular-appearing produce from corporate farms and not from local farms. The differences occur because consumers expect corporate farms to conform to standardized esthetic norms but expect local farms to market irregular-appearing produce. When expectations are aligned, anthropomorphism is more likely to cause consumers to diversify esthetic cues, but not when expectations are disassociated. The article concludes with suggestions for promotion strategies that use anthropomorphizing to change attitudes and increase purchase intentions toward irregular-appearing produce
