Degeneracy between θ23 octant and neutrino non-standard interactions at DUNE
AbstractWe expound in detail the degeneracy between the octant of θ23 and flavor-changing neutral-current non-standard interactions (NSI's) in neutrino propagation, considering the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) as a case study. In the presence of such NSI parameters involving the e−μ (εeμ) and e−τ (εeτ) flavors, the νμ→νe and ν¯μ→ν¯e appearance probabilities in long-baseline experiments acquire an additional interference term, which depends on one new dynamical CP-phase ϕeμ/eτ. This term sums up with the well-known interference term related to the standard CP-phase δ creating a source of confusion in the determination of the octant of θ23. We show that for values of the NSI coupling (taken one at-a-time) as small as few% (relative to the Fermi coupling constant GF), and for unfavorable combinations of the two CP-phases δ and ϕeμ/eτ, the discovery potential of the octant of θ23 gets completely lost

Convergence of Global Sustainability Reporting Standards: Need of the Hour
Convergence of Sustainability Reporting Standards: Need of the Hour: Abstract Effective sustainability reporting is considered to be a meaningful and effective medium of communicating with stakeholders about how companies are performing on the basis of their objectives. In this challenging and dizzyingly fast-changing sustainability reporting landscape, another most notable occurrence is the acceleration of efforts to converge toward a single and uniform sustainability reporting standard. The five organisations namely SASB, CDP, GRI, CDSB and IIRC that are involved in the setting of global standards relating to sustainability reporting have expressed their intention to work jointly to develop a single set of sustainability reporting standards. New initiatives from the World Economic Forum and IFRS Foundation support the case for globally accepted sustainability reporting standards. Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of sustainable and resilient business models to support the economic recovery strategies of companies, along with an insightful reporting to provide stakeholders with a clear understanding of those models. The pandemic has also raised awareness of the inextricable links between the environment, society and the regulatory and policy environment. These developments are directed towards an urgent need for a more robust sustainability reporting framework. It is expected that the application of these standards will be compulsory irrespective of its size- big or small or irrespective of its nature- private or public throughout the globe. The exact timeline for implementation of these standards remains a difficult issue to ascertain, but it is expected that it would be within a few years.

Nitrogen Use Efficiency Regulates Drought Stress in Pearl Millet Genotypes: Morpho-Physiological Evaluation
In this paper, the author discusses the effects of drought stress on pearl millet genotypes during the vegetative stage of development and the plant’s mechanisms for survivability under stress with various nitrogen treatment regimes. A total of six treatment conditions were imposed on plants, i.e., N0 (no Nitrogen-0 mM), N0+PEG-10%, LN (low Nitrogen-2.5 mM), LN+PEG-10%, HN (high Nitrogen-7.0 mM), and HN+PEG-10%. Five days of moderate drought stress caused significant morphophysiological changes, as evidenced by a reduction in fresh and dry biomass, as well as relative water content (RWC), relative electrolyte leakage, and chlorophyll fluorescence,. A significant reduction in plant biomass and RWC when compared to the controls was seen. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid peroxidation (MDA) levels increased in the shoot in response to drought stress along with a loss of membrane integrity. A nitrogen treatment regime regulated the drought stress. In relation to N0-treated batches, proline accumulation increased in various N-treated batches. Results revealed that GHB-538 is less tolerant to drought stress in different N treatment conditions, while RHB-234 and 223 showed better tolerance to drought under nitrogen treatments. The significance of this study is to uncover the regulatory role of nitrogen over the drought stress in pearl millet
Family Adoption Program in MBBS Curriculum: A Qualitative Study to Assess the Implementation Challenges and Possible Solutions in the Existing System
Background:
The family adoption program has been inculcated in the undergraduate medical curriculum vide the March 2022 directives to ensure community-based hands-on experience from the beginning and increase the availability and accessibility of doctors or medical professionals in the rural areas and is currently in a nascent phase of implementation across the various medical colleges in India.
Objectives:
To assess the challenges faced while implementing the new initiative of family adoption over three and a half years and possible solutions offered by the faculties of Community Medicine of various colleges of West Bengal based on their hands-on experience.
Materials and Methods:
A cross-sectional qualitative study was carried out among the Community Medicine faculty representatives from 24 medical colleges in West Bengal. After due informed consent, they were interviewed by a panel of senior faculty members based on a semi-structured questionnaire. A qualitative thematic content analysis was carried out to identify the major themes involved.
Result:
The four themes emerging were sustainability of adopted families, human resources and other Logistics issues, logbook proto-type, and building on previous successful implementation of family visits. Various modifications were mentioned by different respondents.
Discussion and Conclusion:
Despite the different deterring issues noted, solutions by the implementers themselves that can have far-reaching implications were identified. A successful implementation of FAP can make a difference in public health, and develop Indian Medical Graduates competent to serve the community at their best
Evolution of neutrino mass-mixing parameters in matter with non-standard interactions
© 2021, The Author(s).We explore the role of matter effect in the evolution of neutrino oscillation parameters in the presence of lepton-flavor-conserving and lepton-flavor-violating neutral-current non-standard interactions (NSI) of the neutrino. We derive simple approximate analytical expressions showing the evolution of mass-mixing parameters in matter with energy in the presence of standard interactions (SI) and SI+NSI (considering both positive and negative values of real NSI parameters). We observe that only the NSI parameters in the (2,3) block, namely εμτ and (γ − β) ≡ (εττ− εμμ) affect the modification of θ23. Though all the NSI parameters influence the evolution of θ13, εeμ and εeτ show a stronger impact at the energies relevant for DUNE. The solar mixing angle θ12 quickly approaches to ∼ 90° with increasing energy in both SI and SI+NSI cases. The change in ∆m21,m2 is quite significant as compared to ∆m31,m2 both in SI and SI+NSI frameworks for the energies relevant for DUNE baseline. Flipping the signs of the NSI parameters alters the way in which mass-mixing parameters run with energy. We demonstrate the utility of our approach in addressing several important features related to neutrino oscillation such as: a) unraveling interesting degeneracies between θ23 and NSI parameters, b) estimating the resonance energy in presence of NSI when θ13 in matter becomes maximal, c) figuring out the required baselines and energies to have maximal matter effect in νμ → νe transition in the presence of different NSI parameters, and d) studying the impact of NSI parameters εμτ and (γ − β) on the νμ → νμ survival probability.11Nsciescopu
Dithia-Crown-Ether Integrated Self-Exfoliated Polymeric Covalent Organic Nanosheets for Selective Sensing and Removal of Mercury
Divalent mercury (Hg2+) is highly toxic in nature and
extensively found in different natural water bodies worldwide. Thus,
rapid trace-level monitoring of Hg2+, as well as its effective
removal from contaminated natural water resources, is a key ongoing
concern for sustainable public health and environmental protection
purposes. To address this challenging task, herein we adopted a strategy
of combining the inherent benefits of fascinating porous covalent
organic frameworks (COFs) and macrocyclic chemistry via judicious
design and synthesis of monomers to create a dual functional polymeric
platform for simultaneous ultra-trace-level detection and effective
removal of Hg2+ from aqueous solution. While doing so,
a “bottom-up” self-assembly approach was adopted under
solvothermal conditions to prepare a β-ketoenamine linked two-dimensional
self-exfoliated luminescent covalent organic nanosheet (CON), a derivative
of COFs, using a rationally designed and synthesized aromatic diamine
(Mc-L1) building block grafted with a pendent naptho-1,4-dithia-15-crown-5
(Mc) macrocyclic receptor acting as a highly specific Hg2+ binding unit. The as-synthesized robust Mc-CON selectively and efficiently
detected ppb levels of Hg2+ together with high capacity
removal capability (605 mg/g) from contaminated aqueous solution under
a wide range of pH (3–9) with excellent recyclability, making
Mc-CON a potential candidate for realistic open-air applications
