An E-learning Support Toolkit for Social Work Students on Placement
Students of the social work professions generally are required to be placed in social work settings and to undergo assessment in the workplace during their training. These students are usually supported by qualified practice tutors who regularly meet with them and give feedback on their practice performance and progress. The support procedure sometimes is fragile and affects the quality of the students’ learning experience. Through a user centered design approach, the Remora project aims to provide an integration of mobile software toolkits and social software applications to support work-based learning and assessment for social workers. Two main applications are created and deployed on two categories of portable devices to help practice workers in their administration, information sharing and collection of documents linking with competency learning resources. The applications are extendible to be applicable to any work-based learning situation
Generating Low-Code Applications from Enterprise Ontology
Due to factors such as hyper-competition, increasing expectations from customers, regulatory changes, and technological advancements, the conditions in which enterprises need to thrive become increasingly turbulent. As a result, enterprise agility, or flexibility, becomes an increasingly important determinant for enterprise success. Since Information System (IS) development often is a limiting factor in achieving enterprise flexibility, enterprise flexibility and (automated) IS flexibility cannot be viewed separately and choices that regard flexibility should not be left to developers. By taking a Model-based Engineering (MBE) approach, starting from ontological models of the enterprise and explicit organization design decisions, we bridge the gap from organizational flexibility to (automated) IS flexibility, in such a way that IT is no longer the limiting factor for enterprise flexibility. Low-code technology is a growing market trend that builds on MBE concepts. In this paper, we report on an mapping for (the automation of) the creation of a Mendix low-code application from the ontological model of an enterprise, while also accommodating the required organizational implementation flexibility. Even though the algorithm has been tested successfully on multiple cases, supporting all possible organizational flexibility seems to be an NP -hard problem, and more research is required to check the feasibility and usability of this approach

SLRGuide: a collaborative tool for Systematic Literature Review - Final Report
The systematic literature review is an increasingly important research tool for extracting new knowledge from secondary research data. The SLR process originated from the medical field but is now prevalent across many disciplines including social sciences and computer science. The SLR process however, is very resource intensive. Moreover, for research outputs from the SLR process to generate appropriate levels of confidence, it is essential that the SLR process can be easily validated and repeated if necessary. This project has established the key requirements for the SLR process and it has developed a prototype tool to support SLR activities.
The final report details all stages of the project process, defining the project methodology; context; achievements; conclusions; and recommendations
A mobile social software application to support work based learning in social work
Mobile devices - their prevalence and capability affords new disruptive approaches to learning. In particular the potential needs of learners in work based settings have most to benefit from this. In parallel, the role of social software in Higher Education has been recognized and more recently social software applications on mobile devices are becoming widely available. This paper describes ongoing research in the design and development of feature rich mobile social software applications for the Social Work domain. The paper contributes an adaptation of theories of work based learning with social constructivism derived from the knowledge management domain and demonstrates how these theories have been implemented in a social software tool. The paper also provides an evaluation of the design of the tools using an emerging reference model for understanding and evaluating mobile software applications
Resilience and Values: Antecedents for Effective Co-design of Information Systems
The notion of resilience is becoming an important consideration in \ addressing the needs of vulnerable individuals and groups in the public \ sector. In Information Systems development, resilience has often been \ treated as non-functional requirement such as scalability and little \ or no work is aimed at building resilience in end-users through systems \ development. In this paper we introduce a refinement of the value \ sensitive action-reflection model used in co-design, first introduced \ by Yoo et al, that recognises the tension between values and resilience. \ We report on our activities of using this approach for a project aimed \ at developing mobile apps for promoting better engagement between \ young people in conflict with the law and their case workers in the \ UK youth justice system. We examine the ambiguity created when designer \ and stakeholder prompts change their role and purpose during the co-design \ process and discuss the impact of this on resilience building for \ the end-user and the possible implications for Information Systems \ design processes
Goal Driven Architecture Development using LEAP
Methods for goal driven system engineering exist and propose a number of categories of goals including behavioural, formal, informal and non-functional. This article goes further than existing goal driven approaches by linking goals directly to the semantics of an architectural modelling language called LEAP with an operational semantics. The behavioural goals are expressed using a Linear Temporal Logic and the non-functional goals are expressed as functions over meta-properties of the model. The meta-properties are supported using an encoding represented using Java reflection. The article describes the LEAP approach using a simple case study written in the LEAP language supported by the LEAP toolset
