The long way: guerreiro Ramos and sociology of management before the new science of organizations
Full text linkBefore exiling to the U.S.A. and elaborating his theoretical constructions around the administration in contemporary society, which culminated with the publication of The new science of the organizations (in 1981), Guerreiro Ramos had already accomplished much. From his early works on administration (in the Department of Administration of the Public Service, DASP, in the 1940's) to his work that preceded his exile, Administration and strategy of the development (in 1966), he reflected on administration, rationality and bureaucracy in a context of searching for modernization. Such reflections (and frustrations) characterized his intellectual development, his criticisms of rationality (instrumental) and his considerations about a humanistic view of administration, a central issue in his theoretical work in The new science of the organizations.Antes de se exilar nos EUA e elaborar suas construções teóricas em torno da administração na sociedade contemporânea - que culminou com a publicação de A nova ciência das organizações (em 1981) - Guerreiro Ramos percorreu longo caminho. Desde seus primeiros trabalhos sobre administração (no Departamento de Administração do Serviço Público, DASP, na década de 1940), até sua obra que precedeu o exílio, Administração e estratégia do desenvolvimento (em 1966), Guerreiro refletiu sobre a administração, racionalidade e burocracia num contexto de busca pela modernização. Full text linkDecorrido mais de meio século desde a publicação de A redução sociológica, de Alberto Guerreiro Ramos, o livro continua sendo um marco das ciências sociais, principalmente da sociologia no Brasil. Entretanto, cabe ainda lançar alguma luz sobre o contexto social e o contexto intelectual no qual a obra foi produzida, bem como sua recepção crítica naquele momento. Também, restam ainda alguns aspectos a serem analisados a partir da perspectiva atual, ou seja, um balanço e revisão da importância desta obra na cultura brasileira, do que já acusa a ação do tempo e do que permanece atual e mesmo do ainda não foi devidamente analisado
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textOs estudos de Guerreiro Ramos sobre condição do negro no Brasil repõem a questão em novas bases, identificando seu núcleo no reflexo da patologia social do branco brasileiro e na própria atitude dos estudiosos que transformariam o negro-vida em tema. Ramos propõe então a assunção da negritude e a integração social por meio do adestramento cultural, ao que se contrapõe Costa Pinto, ao afirmar a preponderância do negro proletário. Entretanto, ambos pensadores foram relegados pelo racialismo do discurso dominante na atualidade.The studies by Guerreiro Ramos about the condition of the negro in Brazil restitute the question in new bases, identifying its nucleus in the consequence of the social pathology of “white” Brazilian and also in the attitude of the scholars that would transform the negro-life into ‘subject’. He considers then the assumption of the negritude and the social integration through cultural coaching, against which opposes Costa Pinto, when he affirms the superiority of the proletarian negro. However, both thinkers have been relegated by the racialism of the dominant speech in the present time
