Internal Stabilization by Noise of the Navier–Stokes Equation
We show that the Navier-Stokes equation in O C Rd, d = 2, 3, around an unstable equilibrium solution is exponentially stabilizable in probability by an internal noise controller V (t, ξ) = Σ Ni=1 Vi(t)ψi(ξ) ̇Βi(t), ξ ε O, where {Βi} Ni=1 are independent Brownian motions and {ψi}Ni=1 is a system of functions on O with support in an arbitrary open subset O0 C O. The stochastic control input {Vi}Ni=1 is found in feedback form. The corresponding result for the linearized Navier-Stokes equation was established in [E. Barbu, The internal stabilization by noise of the linearized Navier-Stokes equation, ESAIM Control Optim. Calc. Var., to appear]
Eugen Barbu: debut editorial surprinzător şi controversat (1955–1960)
The article aims at presenting a detailed picture of the Romanian literary life of the (mid to late) ’50s and correcting particular details concerning the debut of Eugen Barbu (1924–1993), Romanian journalist and prose writer, a disputed literary figure of the Communist era. The author puts forward some critical remarks on Mihai Ungheanu’s work of editing the texts of Eugen Barbu, drawing attention upon the errors this editor has done, purposely or unknowingly. He offers further information about the context in which the novel Groapa (The Pit) was published and new data on the project of another novel written by Eugen Barbu, Calea Negustorilor (The Traders’ Route). The author of the article, as a direct participant in the literary and cultural life of that time, gives the perspective of an insider when he relates the events connected with the life and work of this novelist. The article is rich in critical commentaries and new biographical information about Eugen Barbu
Estimation of the stationary distribution of a semi-Markov chain
This article is concerned with the estimation of the stationary distribution of a discretetime semi-Markov process. After briefly presenting the discrete-time semi-Markov setting, wepropose an estimator of the associated stationary distribution. The main results concern theasymptotic properties of this estimator, as the sample size becomes large. A numerical exampleillustrates the asymptotic properties of the estimators
Existence of strong solutions for stochastic porous media equation under general monotonicity conditions
Barbu V, Da Prato G, Röckner M. Existence of strong solutions for stochastic porous media equation under general monotonicity conditions. Annals of Probability. 2009;37(2):428-452.This paper addresses the existence and uniqueness of strong solutions to stochasic porous media equations dX - Delta Psi(X)dt = B(X)dW(t) in bounded domains of R-d with Dirichlet boundary conditions. Here Psi is a maximal monotone graph in R x R (possibly multivalued) with the domain and range all of R. Compared with the existing literature on stochastic porous media equations, no growth condition on Psi is assumed and the diffusion coefficient Psi might be multivalued and discontinuous. The latter case is encountered in stochastic models for self-organized criticality or phase transition
The Secret Little Book from Germany: Circulation and transmission of Toledoth Yeshu at the Borders of the Empire
This paper is concerned with a medieval French translation of Toledoth Yeshu preserved in the manuscript records of an investigation against the Jews and their books held in the city of Trévoux in 1429. Whereas the records of the trial were described by I. Loeb in the late nineteenth century, the bearing of this historical evidence for Toledoth Yeshu research has not yet been taken into consideration. In this paper, we will consider the historical context of the investigation and the place of Toledoth Yeshu in the trial records, as well as compare the text itself with other known versions of Toledoth Yeshu, with a view to discuss the reception, transmission and circulation of the work in the late Middle Ages
CULTURAL ADAPTATION OF PRODUCTS
In this paper I discussed the factors that influence the cultural adaptation of products. Globalization determines the companies to operate abroad; therefore the firms sell their products to markets where the consumer patterns might differ from their national market. It is of high importance to be able to understand and to adapt to local consumer habits. The culture has a strong influence on products adaptation in particular, and on international marketing in general. Companies must be able to adapt their products, but, in the same time, to keep the note of originality, so that the global image of brand to gain consistency. Global brands provide a larger advantage regarding the marketing activities and costs. Savy companies are capable to recognize and to use cultural differences in their use.product adaptation, international marketing, cultural factors.
Dataset for Aerodynamic Performance of Electro-Active Acrylic Membrane Wings
This is the dataset that contains the data that are presented in the figures in the following paper:
A. Barbu, R. de Kat and B. Ganapathisubramani (2018), "Aerodynamic Performance of Electro-Active Acrylic Membrane Wings", AIAA Journal.
The data is in a zip file that contains a folder. The folder contains a separate .fig file (which is in Matlab format). A sample matlab code is included to extract the data from the .fig file. Alternately, the .fig file can be opened in Matlab directly and plotted. A readme file is included.
All the necessary information about the flow and the conditions are in the paper. </span
Rigorous mathematical investigation of a nonlinear anisotropic diffusion-based image restoration model
A nonlinear diffusion based image denoising technique is introduced in
this paper. The proposed PDE denoising and restoration scheme is based
on a novel diffusivity function that uses an automatically detected
conductance parameter. A robust mathematical treatment is also provided
for our anisotropic diffusion model. We demonstrate that edge-stopping
function model is properly chosen, explaining the mathematical reasons
behind it. Also, we perform a rigorous mathematical investigation on
of the existence and uniqueness of the solution of our nonlinear
diffusion equation. This PDE-based noise removal approach
outperforms most diffusion-based methods, producing considerably better
smoothing results and providing a much better edge preservation

Un centenar între adevăruri și mistificări: Eugen Barbu la judecata de apoi a posterității
This study concerns the controversy surrounding the life and work of Eugen Barbu (1924–1993), a writer at the forefront of the Romanian literature after World War II, whose birth centennial is this year. On this occasion, the “Eugen Barbu case” has once again been in the centre of attention, causing different reactions, in which the mistruth has overlapped the truth.
In the first part, the study analyzes the accusations of plagiarism against one of Barbu’s benchmark novels. In 2016, the “România literară” journal published a file to let it be understood that the novel Groapa (1957) would have encapsulated the micro-novel Hotel Maidan (1935) signed by Stoian Gh. Tudor (1911–1941).
Dissected point by point, the evidence on which the demonstration from “România literară” relies, which has been embraced – without a minimal verification – by respectable intellectual public figures on Eugen Barbu’s centennial, borders on the ridicule.
At the same time, the paper discusses, through documentation recourse, the plagiarism suspicions surrounding other works by the author of Groapa. The same perspective is employed for reviewing the scandal triggered by the third volume (1978) of the Incognito tetralogy (1976–1980), for which the authour used, as he had specified in the first volume of the series, sequences from books of other foreign and Romanian writers.
In its second part, the paper examines some of Eugen Barbu’s radical attitudes by recourse to important moments in his biography, using entries from both the writer’s original diaries and his wife’s diaries, actress Marga Barbu (1929–2009), documents in the collection of the author of this investigation. The research reveals significant nuances, so far overlooked in the discussion about the “Eugen Barbu case”
