Fabrication of stainless-steel microfibers with amorphous-nanosized microstructure with enhanced mechanical properties
Full text linkMetallic glasses (MG) have attracted much attention due to their superior hardness and good corrosion resistance. However, designing new MG compositions is still a big challenge, and their integration into different systems is limited when they are in the shape of bulk materials. Here, we present a new method for the fabrication of MG in the form of microfibers which could greatly help them to be integrated within different systems. The newly proposed technique has the ability to form MG structure from commercially available alloy compositions thanks to its significantly improved quenching rate(~ 10(8) K.s(−1)). In this technique, individual melt droplets are ejected on a rotating wheel forming a thin film which are ruptured upon solidification leading to the formation of MG microfibers. In this regard, we have fabricated microfibers from a commercial DIN 1.4401 stainless-steel which could form a completely amorphous structure confirmed by DSC, XRD, and HRTEM. The fabricated MG microfibers show an increased hardness for more than two-fold from 3.5 ± 0.17 GPa for the as-received stainless-steel to 7.77 ± 0.60 GPa for the amorphous microfibers. Subsequent heat-treatment of the microfibers resulted in a nanocrystalline structure with the presence of amorphous regions when the hardness increases even further to 13.5 ± 2.0 GPa. We propose that confinement of both shear transformation zones and dislocations in the heat-treated MG microfibers plays a major role in enhancing strength

With the Left Hand. Polish Theoreticians of Concrete Poetry as Concrete Poets (Józef Bujnowski, Tadeusz Sławek, Piotr Rypson)
Abstract: The present article, inscribing itself into the field of literary anthropology (as projected by Danuta Ulicka) and attempting at a neo-avant-guard re-interpretation of Polish post-war poetry (inspired chiefly by H. Foster's propositions), is dedicated to the oeuvre of three notable scholars of concrete poetry in Poland. Even though the theoretical propositions put forth by Józef Bujnowski (especially those presented in 1970s), Tadeusz Sławek (1980s) and Piotr Rypson (1990s) would determine the directions of the reception of concrete poetry over three subsequent decades, their intermedial, visual and auditory poetic experiments either remain unknown or have been forgotten. Bringing them back to the forefront of the academic attention and subjecting them to an analysis, the author of this article argues that taking such text into account in the diachronic study of the Polish literary culture does not only enrich the existing narratives oscillating around Polish concrete poetry and allow their reinterpretation, but also makes visible a number of research problems, of which the most important are related to the role played by authors who simultaneously are involved in literary scholarship and in writing, especially in the context of the neo-avant-guard shift of the borders between institutionalized scholarship and art.Keywords: concrete poetry, essayist literary scholarship, limits of art, limits of scholarship

No full textPiotr Skarga was a Jesuit theologian, preacher, hagiographer, Catholic polemicist, one of the greatest prose writers of the Polish Renaissance, the author of, among others, famous the Kazania sejmowe. Thanks to the historical and literary legend created during the partitions of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and surviving to modern times, he became a symbol of a great priest – a patriot. There is a black legend of Piotr Skarga, in which he appears as a huge nietolerant and almost eager for blood of dissidents. There is no lack of objective studies on the other hand, along with a critical analysis of the works of Piotr Skarga

Erazmem Kuźmą (1926–2014), szczecińskim teoretykiem i historykiem literatury, krytykiem literackim, autorem m.in. takich książek, jak: Z problemów świadomości literackiej i artystycznej ekspresjonizmu w Polsce (1976), Mit Orientu i kultury Zachodu w literaturze XIX i XX wieku (1980), Między konstrukcją a destrukcją. Szkice z teorii i historii literatury (1994). Prezentowaną rozmowę przeprowadził Piotr Krupiński we wrześniu 2008 roku. Profesor Kuźma był jednym z założycieli szczecińskiej polonistyki uniwersyteckiej i właśnie próbie rekonstrukcji dziejów akademickiego literaturoznawstwa w Szczecinie poświęcono główną część wywiadu. Ale mówiąc o przeszłości, prof. Kuźma stara się również antycypować. Jaka przyszłość czeka polską naukę o literaturze? Czy w dzisiejszych czasach jest jeszcze miejsce dla humanistów? To tylko niektóre z wątków poruszonych w trakcie rozmowy.The article documents a conversation with Prof. Erazm Kuźma (1926–2014), a literary theorist, historian and critic from Szczecin, the author of such books as Z problemów świadomości literackiej i artystycznej ekspresjonizmu w Polsce (From Problems of Literary and Artistic Awareness of Expressionism in Poland) (1976), Mit Orientu i kultury Zachodu w literaturze XIX i XX wieku (The Myth of the Orient and the Culture of the West in the 19th and 20th-century Literature) (1980), Między konstrukcją a destrukcją. Szkice z teorii i historii literatury (Between Construction and Destruction. Sketches from Literary Theory and History) (1994). The presented conversation was conducted by Piotr Krupiński in September 2008. Prof. Kuźma was one of the founders Polish studies at the University of Szczecin and the main part of the interview was an attempt to reconstruct the history of academic literary studies in Szczecin. But talking about the past, Prof. Kuźma is also trying to anticipate. What is the future of Polish literary studies? Is there a place for humanists in the modern world? These are just a few of the issues raised during the conversation

In the synthetic sections, the degree of organic-matter thermal transformation and the expulsion efficiency factor were modeled. Two-dimensional expulsion models, obtained through geometrical interpolation of the expulsion efficiency factor, document prospective zones for hydrocarbon exploration in structural-facial units that form the study area. STRESZCZENIE: Zrekonstruowano modele parametrów skalujących systemy naftowe sfałdowanych i nasuniętych pokryw tektonicznych Karpat Zewnętrznych: historie subsydencji, parametry paleotermiczne i pierwotny potencjał macierzystości serii fliszowych w 367 profilach syntetycznych zlokalizowanych w pięciu regionalnych trawersach odwzorowujących wgłębną budowę geologiczną w transgranicznej strefie Karpat polsko-ukraińskich. W profilach syntetycznych wymodelowano stopień przeobrażenia termicznego materii organicznej oraz współczynnik efektywności ekspulsji faz ropnej i gazowej. Dwuwymiarowe modele ekspulsji uzyskane na drodze geometrycznej interpolacji współczynnika efektywności ekspulsji dokumentują perspektywiczne strefy poszukiwań węglowodorów w jednostkach strukturalno-facjalnych budujących obszar badań.
