The Interplay of Core Diameter and Diameter Ratio on the Magnetic Properties of Bistable Glass-Coated Microwires

No full text
Glass-coated microwires exhibiting magnetic bistability have garnered significant attention as promising wireless sensing elements, primarily due to their rapid magnetization switching capabilities. These microwires consist of a metallic core with diameter d, encased in a glass coating, with a total diameter D. In this study, we investigated how the dimensions of both components and their ratio (d/D) influence the magnetization reversal behavior of Fe-based microwires. While previous studies have focused on either d or d/D individually, our research uniquely considered the combined effect of both parameters to provide a comprehensive understanding of their impact on magnetic properties. The metallic core diameter d varied from 10 to 19 μm and the d/D ratio was in the range of 0.48–0.68. To assess the magnetic properties of these microwires, including the shape of the hysteresis loop, coercivity, remanent magnetization, and the critical length of bistability, we employed vibrating sample magnetometry in conjunction with FORC-analysis. Additionally, to determine the critical length of bistability, magnetic measurements were conducted on microwires with various lengths, ranging from 1.5 cm down to 0.05 cm. Our findings reveal that coercivity is primarily dependent on the d/D parameter. These observations are effectively explained through an analysis that considers the competition between magnetostatic and magnetoelastic anisotropy energies. This comprehensive study paves the way for the tailored design of glass-coated microwires for diverse wireless sensing applications

Siphloplecton macrops (Pictet-Baraban & Hagen, 1856) Figures 1 A–C For complete list of synonyms see Staniczek & Godunko 2012: 59 Material. Lectotype. Male imago in Baltic amber (Eocene), MNB, MB.I. 5150., specimen provided with 7 different labels (Fig. 1 A, i–vii) that read as (“//” denotes line break): (i) n◦ 14 Palingenia macrops // Tab. VI Fig 2 (ii/ 1: front side) Holotyp // Paläontologisches Museum Berlin // Siphloplecton macrops // (Pictet, 1856) // Orig. Pictet-Baraban & Hagen, 1856 // S. 74, Taf. 6, Fig. 2 // Slg. Demoulin detrev., 19567 // Siphloplecton // macrops // (PICTET) // ♂ imago (vi) 7350 // Palingenia // macrops (vii) 7350 S. macrops was described in 1856 from a type series of 11 specimens from the Berendt collection (see Fig. 1 A, label (i) that most probably dates back to the original description). Demoulin (1968) in his revision of Siphloplecton noted that out of the original type series only 3 specimens had survived in 1968. Georg Demoulin could identify the male imago that had been figured in Pictet-Baraban & Hagen (1856). He redescribed and refigured this specimen (Demoulin 1968, fig. 38) and designated it as “hololectotype” (Fig. 1 A, labels (iii), (v)) in an addendum that he attached to his original publication (see also Staniczek & Godunko 2012). Obviously, this specimen was forwarded to him by J. Illies (Schlitz) who had discovered it among fossil Plecoptera in the amber collection of MNB and took it on loan in 1966 (see Fig. 1 A, label (ii/ 2)). During our own investigations of Berendt’s mayfly collection at the MNB in 2004 and 2008 this specimen was not traceable, so we assumed it might be lost (Staniczek & Godunko 2012). However, during our ongoing investigations at the MNB the lost lectotype was finally found in November 2012 apart from the mayfly amber collection in a different, remotely located repository. Our subsequent study of the rediscovered lectotype revealed that the specimen today appears to be even more damaged than described by Demoulin (1968). The initial single piece of amber with the embedded body of S. macrops obviously split at some point, and there are four separate remaining pieces (Fig. 1 B, i–iv). Two small pieces (Fig. 1 B, i and ii) do not contain any inclusions. In the third, bigger amber fragment (Fig. 1 B, iii) some parts of left legs are visible. The biggest amber fragment (Fig. 1 B, iv) contains parts of right foreleg, right forewing, prothorax, distal part of mesothorax, and slightly damaged head (arrow in Fig. 1 B points to location of head that is enlarged visible in Fig. 1 C). Description of preserved body parts of lectotype. Measurements (in mm): Length of left foreleg (right foreleg partly preserved, poorly visible): femur— 2.25; tibia— 2.10; tarsi* (* = preserved part): segment 1—1.35; left middle leg: femur*— 2.03; tibia*— 0.80; tarsi: segment 1 *— 0.52; segment 2 *— 0.40; segment 3 — 0.33; segment 4 — 0.23; segment 5 — 0.20; left hind leg: femur— 1.80; tibia*— 0.73. Very damaged specimen in relatively dark amber. Head light brown; eyes large, well preserved, medially contiguous; ocelli and antennae uniformly yellow to light brown, with irregular dirty brownish maculation (Fig. 1 B, C). Only small part of right forewing is preserved (central C, Sc, RS fields preserved on approx. 1 / 2 – 1 / 3 of wing length); transversal veins not visible. Only small distal part of mesothorax with mesonotal suture preserved, stretched backwards medially as typical for Siphloplecton. Right foreleg partly preserved, but part of tibia and first tarsal segment covered with “Verlumung” and poorly visible; only traces of tarsal segments and claws are preserved; tarsomere borders not visible. Left foretibia with hardly visible spines anteriorly. Due to the poor preservation of the lectotype it is not possible to determine any distinguishing characters of S. macrops. For this reason, we confirm the restriction of the name S. macrops to this lectotype specimen and corroborate our previous descriptions of several new species from specimens formerly attributed to S. macrops (for additional details see Staniczek & Godunko 2012: 62–63).Published as part of Staniczek, Arnold H. & Godunko, Roman J., 2016, Revision of fossil Metretopodidae (Insecta: Ephemeroptera) in Baltic amber — Part 3: Description of two new species of Siphloplecton Clemens, 1915, with notes on the re-discovered lectotype of Siphloplecton macrops (Pictet-Baraban & Hagen, 1856), pp. 1-24 in Zootaxa 4103 (1) on pages 2-4, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4103.1.1, http://zenodo.org/record/27114

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Vatikanskog koncila. The author of the article has scientifically worked out the custom of baraban which has, until now, only been marginally investigated; he has also studied its relation to the Christian prayer of officium tenebrae (in Croatian Jutrenja) during the three days before Easter, which had been practiced in Croatian regions for the most part until the beginning of the 1970s. The ritual consisted of singing the psalms, blowing out candles and making noise, that is baraban, and the entire ritual process had rules even written in liturgical books. Numerous ethnographic records and story teller testimonies have shown that the custom had a rich terminological and ethimological background, including the multiple definitions of certain terms. The ritual used to, with its primarily spiritual and religious elements, presents the agony of Jesus’ death in a theatrical way and in the same time it was simultaneously, perhaps more unconsciously, a protest against the choice of Barabbas, a hard-line evil criminal, in the place of Jesus, consequently a remonstration against the evil and injustice in the society. Social, cultural and political changes influenced the practice of celebrating the ritual, which can be seen in the differences between Croatia’s north and south. During the course of history and over several centuries, the custom of flogging and making racket, the so-called baraban, had lost its originality and authentic meaning, and today is only known as a past folklore custom and entertainment element. The article can be of use to all those who wish to perform a more detailed investigation, or revive this custom at the local level

Author Under Sail The Imagination of Jack London, 1893-1902

No full text
In Author Under Sail, Jay Williams offers the first complete literary biography of Jack London as a professional writer engaged in the labor of writing. It examines the authorial imagination in London's work, the use of imagination in both his fiction and nonfiction, and the ways he defined imagination in the creative process in his business dealings with his publishers, editors, and agents. In this first volume of a two-volume biography, Williams traverses the years 1893 to 1902, from London's "Story of a Typhoon" to The People of the Abyss. The Jack London who emerges in the pages of Author Under Sail is a writer whose partnership with publishers, most notably his productive alliance with George Brett of Macmillan, was one of the most formative in American literary history. London pioneered many author models during the heyday of realism and naturalism, blurring the boundaries of these popular genres by focusing on absorption and theatricality and the representation of the seen and unseen. London created an impassioned, sincere, and extremely personal realism unlike that of other American writers of the time. Author Under Sail is a literary tour de force that reveals the full range of London as writer, creative citizen, and entrepreneur at the same time it sheds light on the maverick side of machine-age literature.Intro -- Title Page -- Copyright Page -- Dedication -- Contents -- Acknowledgments -- Introduction -- 1. Author in Essay by I. A. Goncharov “Pepiniere”

No full text
Features of the embodiment of the author’s position in the essay by I. A. Goncharov “Pepiniere” are considered. The relevance of the study is due to the poorly studied poetics of this work. A review of the scientific literature on relevant topics is performed. Methodological and theoretical definitions are given. The scientific novelty of the article is in the fact that for the first time attention is paid to artistic techniques that allow to identify the author's position in the specified literary text. The author of the article grounds her opinion from the fact that, despite the dominance of the subjective point of view, other characters’ views stand out in the work. It is concluded in the study that the text of the work represents a biographical author and author-creator. It was established that the position of the author-creator is expressed through the title, epigraphs, which are quotes, as well as through different points of view, including the author-character, the author-narrator, the characters of the work. The author of the article dwells in detail on different ways of expressing the points of view of the author-character and the author-narrator. It is proved that the point of view of the author-character and the author-narrator can intersect, they are interchanged. The author's development of the term comic “point of view” is presented in the article

Espai i identitat en l'obra de Jordi Pere Cerdà. Una geografia literària cerdaniana

No full text
The work of the North Catalan author Jordi Pere Cerdà (1920-2011) weaves a literary cartography which reaches all spatial dimensions -real, imagined and fictional. The prospections proved by their texts merge with the natural and rural environment, sing to love, neighbours and the fantastic beings of the Catalan folklore. Such prospections also commit themselves with the refugees facing every frontier and, also, facing all interior and exterior abyss that oppresses the being. The cognitive and literary mapping created by Cerdà overcomes any obstacle to construct opened and possible spaces, in communion with the other. Based on the theoretical approach called geocriticism, this research study delves into various notions about spatiality linked to a convulsive context, full of transformations at a socioeconomic, political, cultural and linguistic level; these transformations will determine the life of an author and a cross-border territory such as Cerdagne and Northern Catalonia. In short, the rich experience of Jordi Pere Cerdà allows us to reflect on the relationships we want to establish between individuals, as well as between human groups and our natural and cultural habitat, in order to become active members that participate in the transformation of the spaces that make up our identities.Programa de Doctorat en Llengües Aplicades, Literatura i Traducci

Treball Final de Grau en Mestre o Mestra d'Educació Primària (Pla de 2018). Codi: MP1840. The final degree project you are going to see below is a project that looks at how books by author and illustrator Olga de Dios can be worked on in primary school classrooms. Considering the book as an artistic object at an elementary level. Besides presenting the author and illustrator, introducing her, and seeing the values she transmits, we would also read four of her works in the classroom, such as: "Leotolda”, "In the family", "Three-Eyed Frog", and "Yellow Bird.". All this, in addition to the creation of a class notebook in which some of his characters from her work would be colored following guidelines at the curricular level. We would also go out to the local library, where in addition to receiving a non-formal education, it would make it a little easier for us to enter the world of children's illustration, where inside, the professional in charge will guide us through the books which will be in the library. And, to conclude, we would make a book created by the students, where following some guidelines established by Olga de Dios in her book "Leotolda" we would look for feedback by trying to contact her. In this way, we would close the cycle that we started by presenting her as an author and illustrator, and we would explore where the limit of creativity of the students themselves is
