    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Resolution of ambiguity between the depolarization and ferroelectric–relaxor transition temperature through dielectric studies in lead-free perovskite K0.5Bi0.5TiO3

    Lead-free relaxor K0.5Bi0.5TiO3 (KBT) has been selected to measure its depolarization temperature (Td) and to establish the difference between the Td and the normal ferroelectric to relaxor transition temperature (TF-R), which is still in a debatable stage for the relaxor ferroelectric system. These parameters are determined separately from the electrically poled specimen through the simple dielectric measurement instead of the pyroelectric measurement or other sophisticated techniques. Albeit, the electric field induces the normal ferroelectric behavior in the nonergodic relaxor state, the relaxor nature appears again through the heating above the freezing temperature. The difference between the frequencies of resonance and anti-resonance peaks in the real part of permittivity remains constant up to∼240⁰C, and it reduces to almost zero at ∼ 285⁰C, which has been considered as the Td of KBT. At the temperature higher than Td, an anomaly is noticed in the temperature dependent permittivity as well as in the dielectric loss graph of KBT; this temperature indicates the emergence of the relaxor nature from the normal ferroelectric (TF-R). The Td of the KBT is even higher than some of the lead-free ferroelectrics, which signifies its better suitability for the piezoelectric application. This easy method can be adopted undoubtedly to confirm the Td of the ferroelectric specimen, even for the material of higher Td (above 300⁰C)

    Role of polar nanoregions in the enhancement of the recoverable energy storage density and electrostrictive coefficient in the lead free Na0.25K0.25Bi0.5TiO3

    The electrostrictive materials are gaining attention for the actuating application because of their positive strain irrespective to the electric field direction and low hysteresis loss. In this work, the room temperature electrostrictive effect of lead free ferroelectrics Na0.3K0.2Bi0.5TiO3 and Na0.25K0.25Bi0.5TiO3 are studied. Due to the relaxor nature of Na0.25K0.25Bi0.5TiO3, sprout shape strain (S) and pinched polarization (P) loops are noticed as a function of electric field (E), which are beneficial for high electrostrictive coefficient and recoverable energy storage density, respectively. The reversible transformation of the polar nanoregion into the ferroelectric domain with electric field is the reason behind the sprout shape S-E loop. This composition shows the dielectric constant of ≈4000 and strain of 0.30% without any Sneg (negative value of strain). The obtained value of the electrostrictive coefficient from the S vs. P2 graph of Na0.25K0.25Bi0.5TiO3 is ≈0.022 m4/C2, which is comparable to 0.93Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-0.07BaTiO3 composition and other Na0.5−xKxBi0.5TiO3-based binary solid solutions. © 2021 Elsevier B.V

    Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    Scaling behavior of different shapes of hysteresis loops and recoverable energy storage density in Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3, K0.5Bi0.5TiO3, and Na0.25K0.25Bi0.5TiO3 ferroelectrics

    In this work, the dependency of the polarization (P) - electric field (E) loop area A of lead free ferroelectrics Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3 (NBT), K0.5Bi0.5TiO3 (KBT), and Na0.25K0.25Bi0.5TiO3 (NKBT) on the amplitude (E0) of the electric field is studied. Based on the nature of the hysteresis loop with increasing E0, the lnA versus lnE0 graph is divided into three stages and the scaling exponents of each stage are estimated. In the third stage, NBT, KBT, and NKBT show different shapes of P-E loops (square, slanted and pinched, respectively). Although, almost similar slopes in the third stage are obtained from the lnA versus lnE0 graphs of KBT and NKBT, the formation of pinched P-E loop of NKBT is discussed based on the current-time curve under a complete cycle of the applied electric field. The shape of the P-E loop also affects the recoverable energy storage density (Wrec) of the material. Similar to the scaling of A, the variation of lnWrec with lnE0 of NBT, KBT and NKBT are examined. Interestingly, three stages are only noticed in the lnWrec− lnE0 curve of pinched P-E loop (NKBT), whereas lnWrec linearly increases with lnE0 for square and slanted P-E loop. Such type of behavior of Wrec of NKBT is explained based on the reversible domain switching mechanism of the pinched P-E loop. © 2021 The Chinese Ceramic Societ

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
