On the distances between probability density functions
We give estimates of the distance between the densities of the laws of two functionals F and G on the Wiener space in terms of the Malliavin-Sobolev norm of F−G. We actually consider a more general framework which allows one to treat with similar (Malliavin type)methods functionals of a Poisson point measure (solutions of jump type stochastic equations). We use the above estimates in order to obtain a criterion which ensures that convergence in distribution implies convergence in total variation distance; in particular, if the functionals at hand are absolutely continuous, this implies convergence in L1 of the densities
Using moment approximations to study the density of jump driven SDEs
In order to study the regularity of the density of a solution of a infinite activity jump driven stochastic differential equation we consider the following two-step approximation method. First, we use the solution of the moment problem in order to approximate the small jumps by another whose Lévy measure has finite support. In a second step we replace the approximation of the first two moments by a small noise Brownian motion based on the Assmussen-Rosinski approach. This approximation needs to satisfy certain properties in order to apply the "balance" method which allows the study of densities for the solution process based on Malliavin Calculus for the Brownian motion. Our results apply to situations where the Lévy measure is absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure or purely atomic measures or combinations of them

Pricing and hedging American options by Monte Carlo methods using a Malliavin calculus approach
Following the pioneering papers of Fournié, Lasry, Lebouchoux, Lions and Touzi, an important work concerning the applications of the Malliavin calculus in numerical methods for mathematical finance has come after. One is concerned with two problems: computation of a large number of conditional expectations on one hand and computation of Greeks (sensitivities) on the other hand. A significant test of the power of this approach is given by its application to pricing and hedging American options. The paper gives a global and simplified presentation of this topic including the reduction of variance techniques based on localization and control variables. A special interest is given to practical implementation, number of numerical tests are presented and their performances are carefully discussed
A mixed PDE-Monte Carlo approach for pricing credit default index swaptions
The problem of numerically pricing credit default index swaptions on a large number of names is considered. We place ourselves in a stochastic intensity framework, where Ornstein-Uhlenbeck-type correlated processes are used to model both firms' distance to default and a macroeconomic state variable. Here the default of the firms' follows the reduced-form approach and the (random) intensity of the default depends on the behavior of the diffusion processes. We propose here a numerical method based on both a Monte Carlo and a deterministic approach for solving PDEs by finite differences. Numerical tests demonstrate the efficiency and the robustness of the proposed procedure. © Springer-Verlag 2006
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
