Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

All societies aim to pass down their national values from the past, as well as universally accepted values, to the new generation in order to sustain their existence. Fostering individuals who embrace the values expressing the societal responsibility of education is one of the most crucial duties of society, schools, and families. Education not only imparts academic knowledge but also teaches societal values, cultural heritage, and human rights. Education is fundamental not just for personal achievement but also for the progress of society and the foundation of living together harmoniously.. The main purpose of the study is to examine the effect of parental attitudes on the value perceptions of 60-72-month-old children who attend and do not attend preschool education institutions. The sample of the study consists of 234 children and parents who are 60-72 months old and attending or not attending preschool education institutions in the 2019-2020 academic year. "Personal Information Form" was used to collect demographic information, "Preschool Values Scale Family Form" was used to measure children's value perceptions, and "Parenting Attitude Scale" was used to measure parental attitudes. The research data was analyzed using statistical software. Independent Groups t-Test, OneWay Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and Pearson Correlation Analysis were used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the study, it was found that there was a statistically significant difference between parental attitudes and value perceptions. This relationship was found to be low-level and positive. It was concluded that the positive tendency in parental attitudes also increased the value perceptions

© 2022, Institute of Advanced Engineering and Science. All rights reserved. This research investigated whether the emotional intelligence skills of first-and fourth-grade university students differ according to the departments they are enrolled in and other factors. In this research, the 87-item Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory was used. In the intrapersonal, interpersonal, and adaptability sub-dimension a significant difference was found in favor of those who attended Mathematics and Pre-school Education departments. When the ‘interpersonal’ and ‘adaptability’ subscales were examined, the results were observed to be in favor of Environmental Engineering Department. When the independent group t-test results were examined with respect to gender variable, the significance of ‘interpersonal’ and ‘adaptability’ subscales was in favor of male students

GTI-space : the space of generalized topological indices

    No full text
A new extension of the generalized topological indices (GTI) approach is carried out torepresent 'simple' and 'composite' topological indices (TIs) in an unified way. Thisapproach defines a GTI-space from which both simple and composite TIs represent particular subspaces. Accordingly, simple TIs such as Wiener, Balaban, Zagreb, Harary and Randićconnectivity indices are expressed by means of the same GTI representation introduced for composite TIs such as hyper-Wiener, molecular topological index (MTI), Gutman index andreverse MTI. Using GTI-space approach we easily identify mathematical relations between some composite and simple indices, such as the relationship between hyper-Wiener and Wiener index and the relation between MTI and first Zagreb index. The relation of the GTI space with the sub-structural cluster expansion of property/activity is also analysed and some routes for the applications of this approach to QSPR/QSAR are also given

An Analysis on the Preschool Teachers’ Views on the Creative Leadership Skills of the School Administrators

    No full text
This research aims to analyze the differences between the views of the teachers working in pre-school education institutions on the creative leadership skills of the school administrators within the framework of variables such as age, educational background, type of the educational institution, duration of employment, the age group of the pre-school children, life index and duration of employment at the current educational institution. Research data in this correlational research were collected from 140 pre-school teachers. Data were collected with the \"Creative Leadership Scale\" developed by Dikmen Ada (2012). The internal consistency coefficient of the scale is 0.986. The results of the research revealed that school administrators are highly creative leaders. Teachers with lower seniority were found to have positive opinions in the \"focusing on change and transformation\" sub-dimension with regard to their school administrators. However, pre-school teachers were observed to be relatively distant to the concept of creative leadership

Pragmatic Case Studies as a Source of Unity in Applied Psychology

To unify or not to unify applied psychology: that is the question. In this article we review pendulum swings in the historical efforts to answer this question—from a comprehensive, positivist, “top-down,” deductive yes between the 1930s and the early 60s, to a postmodern no since then. A rationale and proposal for a limited, “bottom-up,” inductive yes in applied psychology is then presented, employing a case-based paradigm that integrates both positivist and postmodern themes and components. This paradigm is labeled “pragmatic psychology” and, its specific use of case studies, the “Pragmatic Case Study Method” (“PCS Method”). We call for the creation of peer-reviewed journal-databases of pragmatic case studies as a foundational source of unifying applied knowledge in our discipline. As one example, the potential of the PCS Method for unifying different angles of theoretical regard is illustrated in an area of applied psychology, psychotherapy, via the case of Mrs. B. The article then turns to the broader historical and epistemological arguments for the unifying nature of the PCS Method in both applied and basic psychology.Peer reviewe
