    Ph.D.Aspect is one of the most important grammatical categories of verb and is widely attested cross-linguistically. In Bai language, aspect is indicated by grammatical clitics, termed aspect markers in this study. Previous studies of Bai show that it has around ten aspect markers in each dialect, while so far there has been no thorough discussion on the semantic feature and syntactic distribution of its aspectual system. Besides, Bai is deeply influenced by language contact, to some extent, the complexity of Bai’s aspectual system is caused by language contact. For this reason, to clearly describe the distribution of Bai’s aspect markers, it is necessary to trace their diachronic development and clarify the role of language contact in it. Therefore, this dissertation studies aspect of Bai from two perspectives: synchronic and diachronic.First, under the framework of typology, I define eight aspect categories in Meiba Bai (that is the author’s mother tongue): Perfective -xɯ55, Habitual (unmarked), Progressive: locative phrase or -(tsɿ44) tɕiɛ31 (mɯ55), Perfect of result -tɯ44, Experiential -kuo42, Prospective -kʰɔ42, Inchoative -kʰɯ44/xɯ44, Delimitative ka44-. Second, all the aspect markers are thoroughly described in terms of their collocation with different situation types, arguments and temporal adverbials. It presents the synchronic distribution of the aspectual system of Bai, and also provides the clues for a diachronic analysis. Based on this, I propose a general approach to diachronic analysis of Bai’s grammar. This approach investigates the diachronic development of grammatical morphemes or structures by a detailed synchronic description and a systematic language comparison. In addition to Bai, this approach is also suitable for the diachronic study of any other languages that are lacking in historical documents and deeply affected by language contact. Chapter 4 introduces this approach step by step, predicts seven possibilities of grammatical morpheme/structure’s origin, and points out three mechanisms of syntactic changes. Next, I test the validity of the proposed approach in case of three aspect markers: Perfective -xɯ55, Inchoative - kʰɯ33/kʰɯ44/xɯ44, Progressive markers. Results indicate that Perfective -xɯ55 of Bai and its basic functions are genetic heritage from proto Bai, while its secondary functions that are not attested in all dialects are lately borrowed from Chinese or recently innovated in Bai. As for inchoative marker, its lexical source kʰɯ33 is cognate with qǐ起 in Chinese, thus its functions also found in Chinese are their common heritage, while functions different from Chinese are early or recent innovation features of Bai. There is no inherent progressive category in Bai, consequently, progressive markers in modern Bai dialects are all lately borrowed from Chinese.Last, I compare the semantic evolution paths of aspect markers with the same lexical sources in Bai and Chinese, and suggest that a more detailed language comparison can reveal more specific rules of the semantic evolution. The comparison between Bai and Chinese has two enlightenments on the typological study of aspect: (1) it is the polysemy of lexical sources that makes the different semantic pathways of the same lexical source available. When different semantic components of a lexical source are highlighted, different semantic evolution paths sprouts; (2) recent studies demonstrate that the grammatical morphemes with resultative meaning may develop into both perfective and imperfective markers, while by comparing the semantic evolution routes of directionals in Bai and Chinese not all grams with resultative meaning develop in this way. The gram has negative semantic features, like tʰɯ55 “down” of Bai that indicates the subject goes away from something, will not evolve into an imperfective marker.Summing up, the study of Bai’s aspectual system in this dissertation enhances our understanding of aspect. Moreover, as a language that has accepted Chinese culture very early but still maintains its independence, Bai is typical in the research of Sino-Tibetan that is characterized by language contact. Therefore, in addition to synchronic description, I hope the proposed approach to diachronic development of Bai in this study also contribute to advancing the methodology of language contact.“體”(也稱之爲“體貌”) ,是動詞最重要的語法範疇之一,也是一個跨語言普遍存在的語法概念。白語通過添加體標記來表達“體”。從現有研究來看,不同白語方言都有近十個體標記,其分佈交錯重疊,規律不清晰,但迄今沒有文獻對此作系統的討論。此外,白語深受語言接觸的影響,其體貌系統的共時複雜性很大程度上由語言接觸帶來,要想清晰地描寫白語體貌的共時分佈規律,就必須要追溯體標記的來源,釐清語言接觸在其中的作用。因此,本研究從共時和歷時兩個角度對白語的體貌系統作了較爲詳細的討論。首先,本文在類型學框架下,描寫了美壩白語的體貌系統,界定出八個性質不同的體範疇:完整體(xɯ55)、慣常體(無標記)、進行體(處所結構或體標記(tsɿ44)tɕiɛ31(mɯ55)、結果性完成體(tɯ44)、經歷體(kuo42)、展望體(kʰɔ42)、起始體(kʰɯ44/xɯ44) 、短時體(ka44)。其次,我們詳細描寫了不同體標記和情狀類型、賓語、時間成分等的搭配,以及體意義的詞彙表達手段、體標記和語氣詞的互動等共時分佈特點,不僅展示了白語體貌的現狀,也爲其歷時分析提供了線索。基於此,本文提出了白語語法的歷時分析方法。該方法主要結合對語法語素/結構共時規律的詳細描寫和系統性的語言比較,來判斷語言成分的來源及其演變路徑,除了白語,也適用於其他文獻缺乏而深受接觸影響的語言。第四章詳細介紹了白語語法歷時分析的每一個步驟,預測了白語語法語素的七種可能來源,以及說明了白語語法演變的三種可能機制。接着,我們以完整體標記xɯ55、起始體標記kʰɯ44/xɯ44“起”、進行體標記爲例檢驗了上述方法的有效性。分析結果表明:白語完整體標記形式及其核心功能是早期白語遺傳,即屬於白語固有的語法語素,個別晚近發展出的功能既有方言內部的創新,也有漢語借用;白語趨向詞“起”和漢語的“起”是同源詞,因此二者相似的功能(包括起始體標記)屬於祖語遺傳,而白語異於漢語的功能則是其早期內部的發展或個別方言晚近的創新;白語無固有的進行體範疇,不同白語方言中的進行體標記都是較晚才從附近的漢語方言中借來。最後,我們比較了白語和漢語相同詞源體標記的語義演變路徑,指出更細緻的跨語言比較可以揭示出更具體的體貌語義演變規律。白語和漢語趨向詞語義演變的異同對體貌類型學的研究有兩點啓示:(1)相同詞源產生相異演變路徑主要是因爲詞源成分的多義性,在語言使用中,被突出的語義特徵不同,就會產生不同的語義演變路徑。(2)現有研究表明結果義成分具有雙語法化路徑——既可以演變爲完整體標記、又可以演變爲未完整體標記,對比白語和漢語趨向詞的演變路徑來看,並非所有結果義成分都如此,具有“離開、消減、去除”等消極語義的結果無法發展出未完整體的語義,比如白語的tʰɯ55“下”。總的來看,白語的材料從多角度擴充了我們對“體”這一語法範疇的認識。此外,作爲一個很早就接受漢文化但仍然保持獨立性的語言,白語在整個語言接觸複雜的漢藏語研究領域中都具有典型意義,因此,除了梳理白語的體貌系統,我們也期望本文的研究能爲普遍的語言接觸研究提供有益的經驗和方法支持。李煊."2020年7月".Parallel title from added title page.Thesis Ph.D. Chinese University of Hong Kong 2020.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 238-251).Abstract also in English.Title from PDF title page (viewed on March 1, 2022).Li Xuan

    Characterization of coating probe with Ti-DLC for electrical scanning probe microscope

    In electrical scanning probe microscope (ESPM) applications, the wear and conductivity of the probe are undoubtedly serious concerns since they affect the integrity of the measurements. This study investigates the characterization of Ti doped diamond-like-carbon (DLC) as coating material on a silicon cantilever for ESPM. We deposited a layer of Ti-DLC thin film on the surface of Si cantilever by magnetron sputtering. The morphology and composition of the Ti-DLC films were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy, respectively. We also compared the wear resistance, electric conductivity and scanning image quality of the Ti-DLC-coated probes with those of commercially available conductive probes. The results showed that the electric conductivity and the scanning image quality of the Ti-DLC-coated probes were the same as the commercial conductive probes, while the wear resistance and service life was significantly better

As an alternative to a localized antibiotic release system, we used Ag to fabricate Ti–Ag alloys with nanotubular coatings (TiAg-NTs). Ag has excellent antibacterial properties, but its biological toxicity is a concern. Therefore, we performed biological experiments both in vitro and in vivo to evaluate the biocompatibility of TiAg-NTs with different concentrations of Ag (1%, 2%, and 4%). Methods: For in vitro experiments, cytocompatibility, including cell attachment, viability, and proliferation, was tested, and genes and proteins related to osteogenic differentiation were also evaluated. For in vivo assays, the rat femoral condylar insertion model was used, and micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) and histological analysis were conducted to analyze bone formation around implants at 1, 2, and 4 weeks after surgery. Results: Both in vitro and in vivo results indicate that Ti2%Ag-NT showed comparable cytocompatibility with commercially pure Ti (cp-Ti), and it could achieve good osseointegration with the surrounding bone tissue.     Peran UPT. Puskom yang sangat penting pada Universitas Malikussaleh sebagai pusat Teknologi Informasi (TI), dimana segala proses dan pengelolaan TI dikendalikan disini, jika UPT. Puskom Universitas Malikussaleh memiliki kendala, baik yang berhubungan dengan sistem aplikasi, sumber daya, prosedur, tentu akan menghambat dan mempengaruhi kinerja Universitas Malikussaleh. Untuk mendukung dan menilaitata kelola TI dengan baik dapat menggunakan salah satu standar yaitu kerangka kerja COBIT 5, saat ini COBIT merupakan kerangka kerja yang efektif dan efisien untuk menilai bagaimana tata kelola khususnya TI yang telah diterapkan oleh organisasi. Berdasarkan hasil penilaian Capability Level (tingkat kemampuan) saat ini pada UPT. Puskom Universitas Malikussaleh dengan domain BAI yaitu 2,68 sehingga proses BAI pada UPT. Puskom sudah dijalankan dan dikelola, nilai tersebut mengarah pada level 3 yaitu Established Proses atau proses tetap, namun prosesnya belum terpenuhi seluruhnya sehingga adanya kesenjangan atau gap. Berdasarkan level saat ini maka kesenjangan/gap yang di dapatkan adalah 1 level. Rekomendasi yang dihasilkan berdasarkan level saat ini yaitu level 3, maka pihak UPT. Puskom perlu mengukur sejauh mana proses TI telah didefinisikan, dan perlu mengukur sejauh mana standar proses dilaksanakan secara efektif, yang berupa pengeloaan program aplikasi, pengelolaan jaringan, pengelolaan sumberdaya, mengidentifikasi solusi, pengelolaan perubahan dalam organisasi, dan pengeloaan aset TI

    Antibacterial abilities and biocompatibilities of Ti-Ag alloys with nanotubular coatings

Methods: Unlike commercial pure Ti and titania nanotube, the TiAg-NT samples exhibited short-term antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), as confirmed by scanning electron microscopy and double staining with SYTO 9 and propidium iodide. A film applicator coating assay and a zone of inhibition assay were performed to investigate the long-term antibacterial activities of the samples. The cellular viability and cytotoxicity were evaluated through a Cell Counting Kit-8 assay. Annexin V-FITC/propidium iodide double staining was used to assess the level of MG63 cell apoptosis on each sample. Results: All of the TiAg-NT samples, particularly the nanotube-coated Ti–Ag alloy with 2 wt% Ag (Ti2%Ag-NT), could effectively inhibit bacterial adhesion and kill the majority of adhered S. aureus on the first day of culture. Additionally, the excellent antibacterial abilities exhibited by the TiAg-NT samples were sustained for at least 30 days. Although Ti2%Ag-NT had less biocompatibility than titania nanotube, its performance was satisfactory, as demonstrated by the higher cellular viability and lower cell apoptosis rate obtained with it compared with those achieved with commercial pure Ti. The Ti1%Ag-NT and Ti4%Ag-NT samples did not yield good cell viability. Conclusion: This study indicates that the TiAg-NT samples can prevent biofilm formation and maintain their antibacterial ability for at least 1 month. Ti2%Ag-NT exhibited better antibacterial ability and biocompatibility than commercial pure Ti, which could be attributed to the synergistic effect of the presence of Ag (2 wt%) and the morphology of the nanotubes.     Evaluasi Tata Kelola TI Menggunakan Framework COBIT 2019 pada PT. Pundi Mas Berjaya (Jova Software) Medan

    Penelitian ini menggunakan COBIT 2019 sebagai kerangka kerja untuk mengevaluasi tata kelola TI pada PT. Pundi Mas Berjaya (Jova Software) Medan. Penelitian ini dimulai dengan melakukan identifikasi domain menggunakan design factor. Dari hasil identifikasi terdapat 3 domain yang perlu dilakukan evaluasi, yakni BAI.04, BAI.11, dan APO.11. Tahap selanjutnya adalah dengan melakukan penilaian level kapabilitas yang dimulai dengan menyebarkan kuesioner kepada kepala divisi TI perusahaan, dimana data hasil kuesioner digunakan untuk menilai level kapabilitas dengan hasil BAI.04 berada di level kapabilitas 4, BAI.11 berada di level kapabilitas 3, dan APO.11 berada di level kapabilitas 2. Selanjutnya dilakukan analisis kesenjangan berdasarkan hasil penilaian level kapabilitas. Didapati kesenjangan untuk BAI.04 sebesar 0, BAI.11 sebesar 1, dan APO.11 sebesar 2. Pemberian rekomendasi berdasarkan analisis kesenjangan, diberikan sebanyak 13 rekomendasi untuk mengatasi kesenjangan yang terjadi saat ini.     Lateral Inverse Proximity Effect in Ti/Au Transition Edge Sensors

    We report measured Tc of superconducting Ti/Au bilayer strips with a width W varying from 5 to 50 µm. The strips were fabricated based on a Ti/Au bilayer that consists of a 41-nm-thick Ti layer to which a 280-nm-thick Au layer was added. We find that the Tc drops as W decreases and the declining trend almost perfectly follows Tc/ [mK] = - 738.4 [μ m] 2/ W2+ 91.0 , where Tc(W= ∞) of 91 mK is consistent with the intrinsic Tc of the bilayer. The result is interpreted as a consequence of the lateral inverse proximity effect originated in normal-metal microstructures, namely Au overhangs that exist at the edges of the Ti/Au bilayer.
