Prevalence of menopausal symptoms, its effect on quality of life among Malaysian women and their treatment seeking behaviour
Introduction: This study aimed to determine the prevalence
of menopausal symptoms, its effect to the quality of life and
their treatment seeking behaviour in a multiracial
community in Malaysia.
Methods: This is a cross-sectional study involving
postmenopausal women in Klang Valley, Malaysia. Data was
obtained by face-to-face interview using standardised
questionnaires on sociodemographic data, Menopause
Rating Scale questionnaire, effect to quality of life and
treatment sought.
Results: A total of 258 women, including Malays (82%),
Indians (14.1%) and Chinese (3.9%) were recruited. The
median age was 58 (range 45-86) years old. Joint and
muscular discomfort (73.3%) and fatigue (59.3%) were the
most prevalent symptoms. Significant association with
ethnicity were demonstrated with Malays was found to have
3.1 times higher incidence of sexual problems than Indians,
(Odds Ratio (OR) 3.10395%CI 1.209, 7.967) and Indian had
2.6 times higher incidence of irritability compared to Malays
(OR 2.59895%CI 1.126, 5.992). Fifty-two percent of women
felt that menopausal symptoms affected their quality of life
but there were only 2.7% who were severely affected. There
were 24.8% of women who sought treatment and only 20.3%
of those who took hormone replacement therapy. There was
no significant association found between their treatment
seeking behaviour in association with ethnicity, age, parity,
marital and occupational status.
Conclusion: Menopausal symptoms were prevalent among
menopausal women, although only a small group of women
who were severely affected. There was a lack of tendency in
seeking treatment for menopausal symptoms among the
women

Task-Guided and Semantic-Aware Ranking for Academic Author-Paper Correlation Inference
We study the problem of author-paper correlation inference in big scholarly data, which is to effectively infer potential correlated works for researchers using historical records. Unlike supervised learning algorithms that predict relevance score of author-paper pair via time and memory consuming feature engineering, network embedding methods automatically learn nodes' representations that can be further used to infer author-paper correlation. However, most current models suffer from two limitations: (1) they produce general purpose embeddings that are independent of the specific task; (2) they are usually based on network structure but out of content semantic awareness. To address these drawbacks, we propose a task-guided and semantic-aware ranking model. First, the historical interactions among all correlated author-paper pairs are formulated as a pairwise ranking loss. Next, the paper's semantic embedding encoded by gated recurrent neural network, together with the author's latent feature is used to score each author-paper pair in ranking loss. Finally, a heterogeneous relations integrative learning module is designed to further augment the model. The evaluation results of extensive experiments on the well known AMiner dataset demonstrate that the proposed model reaches significant better performance, comparing to a number of baselines. We would like to thank Yuxiao Dong for suggestions. Kajian Sastra Perjalanan dalam Hikayat Kisah Pelayaran Abdullah ke Mekah Karya Abdullah Bin Abdul Kadir Munsyi
This research is aimed to identify and to reveal a hikayat as classic travel literature of Indonesia by the travel writing theory of Carl Thompson. To gain those purposes, this research used literary criticism and descriptive-analytic methods. The object of this study is Kisah Pelayaran Abdullah ke Mekah by Abdullah bin Abdul Kadir Munsyi (1854), focusing on the six elements of travel writing by Carl Thompson’s approach based on the hikayat. This study shows that the hikayat contains six elements of travel writing. Those are self, other, movement, space, encounter, and writing. Abdullah as a sailor puts himself in his hikayat as the main character by using “sahaya” and “aku” to articulate “self” in his hikayat. The “self” during travel met new and foreign things that the author had never seen before. He drew and expressed his point of view, feeling, and observation of all the encounters that he had met during sailing in to hikayat. Keywords: Carl Thompson, hikayat, travel writin
Dynamic augmentation of SCORM pre-authored course materials with adaptive links to supplementary resources
In a SCORM compliant courseware, content and the pedagogic approach to be taken are predefined by the course author. As a consequence, users are unable to learn according to their preferences, and implicitly they will all encounter the same learning experience. Recent attempts to personalise learning in SCORM often resulted in either modifying or substituting SCORM specification elements. Nonetheless, SCORM is a widely-used solution to interoperability problems. For this reason, this work focuses on supplementing SCORM rather than redefining it. This is accomplished by dynamically associating each pre-authored learning material in a SCORM package with adaptive links to relevant supplementary resources upon delivery. As a result, we have developed a Personalised Link Service (PLS) to deliver these links into user’s SCORM-compliant learning environment. In this paper, we present the design of a PLS authoring architecture which enables the automatic generation of a concept map from a SCORM package and consequently links to alternative learning resources, and a PLS run-time service oriented architecture which delivers these alternative resources, alongside the SCORM defined resources, according to a user model. We demonstrate the feasibility of our architecture by implementing a service to support a simple notion of a user model (Preferred Learning style)

Prevalence of urinary incontinence, its risk factors and effect on the quality of life in women after their first delivery / Bahiyah Abdullah … [et al.]
Although urinary incontinence is commonly associated with increasing parity, there is however a lack of published data on urinary incontinence among primiparous women. This study aims to determine its prevalence among primiparous women at 6-8 weeks postpartum, its risk factors and effects to their quality of life. Methods: This is a crosssectional study involving primiparous women at 6-8 weeks postpartum. Women in their third trimester were recruited using convenience sampling. Data were obtained using a study proforma, and International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire – Short Form (ICIQSF) over a face-to-face interview. The same questionnaire with additional enquiries on delivery was completed over a telephone interview at 6-8 week postpartum. Data were analysed using chi-square and simple logistic regression tests contained in the Statistical Package for Social Science version 20.0. Results: Three hundred and six women participated in this study. The prevalence of urinary incontinence in the third trimester of pregnancy was 34.3% (95%CI: 29.0, 39.7) and dropped to 5.2% (95% CI: 2.7, 7.7) at 6-8 weeks postpartum. Childhood enuresis and postpartum body mass index were the two factors that showed significant association with postpartum urinary incontinence. Urinary incontinence in 95 (31%) women had resolved by 6-8 weeks postpartum, whereas 10 (3.3%) women still had persistent symptom. A small proportion of women (2.0%) developed urinary incontinence in the postpartum period. Majority of women with urinary incontinence did not feel it significantly affected their quality of life. The ICIQ- SF mean score was 6.13 (range 2- 12). Conclusions: Postpartum urinary incontinence is rather uncommon among primiparous women and does not seem to affect their quality of life. Childhood enuresis and postpartum BMI were risk factors associated with postpartum urinary incontinence
Factors Influencing Innovative Work Behavior among Academicians at Politeknik Tuanku Sultanah Bahiyah, Kulim, Kedah
Compared to any other field, the research on the Innovative Work Behaviour (IWB) among academicians has been a neglected area. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the determinant factors influencing IWB among academicians at Politeknik Tuanku Sultanah Bahiyah (PTSB). Social Exchange Theory (SET) was underpinned to determine the relationship between training, reward, knowledge sharing and IWB. Additionally, this study also included work engagement as a mediating variable in the relationship between training, reward, knowledge sharing and IWB. IWB can be defined as the intentional generation, promotion, and realization of new ideas within a work role, workgroup, or organization. It is important to analyze how these dimensions tend to influence the IWB. Data for this study was collected from 118 academicians at PTSB, Kulim, Kedah and the collected data was analyzed by using Smart-PLS. The findings revealed that two dimensions, which are training and knowledge sharing have a significant relationship with IWB whereas reward has an insignificant relationship with IWB. Furthermore, work engagement was found to be significant in mediating training and knowledge sharing, however, work engagement was found to be insignificant in mediating reward and IWB. As a result, it is suggested for institutions and the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) to appropriately apply relevant specific tactics to enhance those components as well as IWB. Future research is suggested to replicate this study to other institutions. Next, it is suggested to test other independent variables and mediating variables to deeply understand other determinants that influence IWB
