Conditional models for 3D human pose estimation:
No full textHuman 3d pose estimation from monocular sequence is a challenging problem, owing to highly articulated structure of human body, varied anthropometry, self occlusion, depth ambiguities and large variability in the appearance and background in which humans may appear. Conventional vision based approaches to human 3d pose estimation mostly employed "top-down methods", which used a complete 3d human model, in a hypothesized pose, to explain the configuration of the humans in the observed 2d image. In this thesis, we work with "bottom-up methods" for human pose estimation, that use low level image features to directly predict 3d pose. The research draws on recent innovations in statistical learning, observation-driven modeling, stable image encodings, semi-supervised learning and learning perceptual representations. We address the problems of (a) modeling pose ambiguities due to 3d-to-2d projection and self occlusion, (b) lack of sufficient labeled data for training discriminative models and (c) high dimensionality of human 3d pose state space. In order to resolve 3d pose ambiguities, we use multi-valued functions to predict multiple plausible 3d poses for an image observation. We incorporate unlabeled data in a semi-supervised learning framework to constrain and improve the training of discriminative models. We also propose generic probabilistic Spectral Latent Variable Models to efficiently learn low dimensional representations of high dimensional observation data and apply it to the problem of human 3d pose inference.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical references (p. 182-193)by Atul Kanauji

Role of Total Thyroidectomy in Painful (Symptomatic) Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis: Descriptive Study
No full textHakura Hashimoto described Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis (HT) in 1912. In HT, there occurs formation of antibodies against the self (thyroid), which causes enlargement of the thyroid gland as a whole and decreased thyroid hormone levels. Most of the patients with HT are given medical line of management (hypo/hyperthyroidism). The indications for surgical line of management for HT are due to pressure symptoms over the trachea and oesophagus, pain in the thyroid gland and for chance of malignancy. Surgical treatment gives complete relief from pain and pressure symptoms and also prevents the risk of malignancy. To evaluate the outcome and complications of total thyroidectomy in painful (symptomatic) Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. It was a Hospital based Descriptive study conducted in tertiary care teaching hospital by ENT Department, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital, Pondicherry from Nov 2017 to May 2019. Sample size was 30. All patients with symptomatic (painful) HT was given trail of medical therapy (steroids and NSAIDS), following repeated attempts of failed medical therapy, surgical management (total thyroidectomy) was preferred. Visual Analog Scale (VAS) was used to assess the pain grading pre and post operatively. MS Excel and SPSS trial version 20 software was used to analyze the data. The Wilcoxan Signed Ranked test was used as test of significance to identify the difference between ordinal variables. In this study, all the 30 patients had pain as the predominant symptom. Visual Analog Scale was used to grade the pain in all the patients preoperatively and 2 weeks postoperatively. All the patients had significant reduction in the pain following total thyroidectomy, when compared to pre-operative VAS grading. Total thyroidectomy is the technique of choice in surgical treatment of symptomatic Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (pain, tenderness and pressure symptoms) which warrants a radical and definitive control of the disease, without any risk of relapse and without the side effects of medical management. Moreover in longstanding cases of HT, the risk of malignant transformation is prevented due to total thyroidectomy. In experienced hands it assures total relief of compressive and painful symptoms and low incidence of/nil major complications
Polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma of parotid gland: A rare occurrence
No full textPolymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma (PLGA) is a rare salivary gland malignant tumor of low aggressiveness, commonly occurring in minor salivary glands. Its occurrence in major salivary gland has been documented albeit rarely. The striking histological feature is architectural diversity combined with benign cytologic features. We report a case of PLGA arising from left parotid in a 25-year-old male patient. On light microscopy, varied patterns were seen .The cells were uniform with bland nuclei. Neural invasion was noted
Analyzing Advancement in Crowdfunding Research and Envisioning its Future: A Bibliometric Approach

Please contact the author(s) directly for the full papers.Crowdfunding represents an emerging alternative means of marshaling resources which may prove to be a game-changer in the entrepreneurial finance landscape. Although the rapid growth in this field has yielded a multidisciplinary body of work, the scaffolding of this vast body of work is still largely unknown in the scholarly domain. We conduct a bibliometric analysis of 534 crowdfunding articles to uncover the intellectual landscape of crowdfunding research. Our comprehensive co-citation analysis reveals two generations of crowdfunding research, identifies the most researched themes in area, and highlights its theoretical and disciplinary anchors. In addition, our bibliographic cartography traces the shifts in areas of interest of scholars within the heterogeneous field. Overall, our critical analysis of the most influential conversations in crowdfunding research helps reveals gaps in the extant literature which act as fertile directions for its future inquiry
