Supplementary data set for "Three-Dimensional Time Domain Simulation of Tsunami-Generated Electromagnetic Fields: Application to the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake Tsunami"
Four data files contain processed tsunami magnetic variations at ESA, B14, NWP, and CBI. Please read Section 4.3 in the main article for the detail of the processing. The contents in each file are composed of ten columns;
time [min since 05:46 UTC on March 11, 2011] (one column), high-pass filtered XYZ at the target site (three columns), synthesized XYZ at the target site based on eq. (14) (three columns), and cleaned XYZ at the target site, i.e. data left after subtraction of synthesized data from high-pass filtered data (three columns). For a seafloor site, B14, not the high-pass filtered but just raw time-series are contained in the second to forth columns because of the shortage of the original time series at B14. Readers can easily plot the four data files by using the script, plot_CTS.sh, where CTS stands for Cleaned Time Series. The four postscript files were generated by this script.

An ecological momentary assessment analysis of relations among coping, affect, and smoking lapse:
This study used EMA data from smokers engaged in an earnest attempt to quit smoking to assess complex relations among coping, affect, and smoking. Analyses tested hypotheses about the main effects of coping and both mediators and moderators of coping effects on subsequent outcomes of interest (i.e., affect, coping effort, coping efficacy, and smoking behavior). Results of multilevel models indicated that coping does not improve negative affect within 4 hours of coping efforts, but that coping does improve positive affect and increase the odds of engaging in temptation coping in the short-term. Lapses were more likely to happen when recent coping was reported within 48 hours. None of the putative mediators of coping were predictive of later lapse risk as anticipated. Analyses also revealed that pre-quit coping practice moderated the effects of post-quit coping to deal with stressful events on later affect. Moreover, significant moderating gender effects were also found in these relations.M.S.Includes bibliographical references (p. 53-66)by Haruka Minam
PREVENTION OF ASTHMA BY KETOTIFEN IN INFANTS WITH ATOPIC-DERMATITIS
To evaluate the prophylactic effect of ketotifen against the onset of asthma we selected 121 infants with atopic dermatitis, without any history suggestive of asthma (cough and/or wheezing). Sixty-one children received ketotifen twice daily. Those who weighted less than 14 kg received 0.8 mg; 14 kg or more, 1.2 mg. Sixty children, a placebo syrup indistinguishable from the active syrup. Both groups, were followed for 1 year, with bimonthly evaluations. The criteria for onset of asthma were two different episodes of wheezing treated with bronchodilator drugs. Both groups were comparable regarding age, sex, weight, onset, and duration of atopic dermatitis and age at the onset of asthma. During the 1 year study, asthma was observed in eight children of the ketotifen group (13.1%) and in 25 children of the placebo group (41.6%) (P < .001). Side effects were negligible and routine laboratory tests disclosed no significant alterations. Ketotifen is a very useful drug for prevention of asthma in children with atopic dermatitis and total IgE more than 50 IU/mL.NATL PEDIAT HOSP,DEPT ALLERGOL,TOKYO,JAPANESCOLA PAULISTA MED SCH,DEPT PEDIAT,DIV ALLERGY & CLIN IMMUNOL,BR-04023 SAO PAULO,BRAZILKYOTO UNIV,SCH MED,DEPT PEDIAT,KYOTO 606,JAPANESCOLA PAULISTA MED SCH,DEPT DERMATOL,BR-04023 SAO PAULO,BRAZILDOI MEM HOSP,DEPT PEDIAT,TOKYO,JAPANNATL MINAMI FUKUOKA HOSP,DEPT PEDIAT,FUKUOKA,JAPANESCOLA PAULISTA MED SCH,DEPT PEDIAT,DIV ALLERGY & CLIN IMMUNOL,BR-04023 SAO PAULO,BRAZILESCOLA PAULISTA MED SCH,DEPT DERMATOL,BR-04023 SAO PAULO,BRAZILWeb of Scienc
Predicting Book Use in University Libraries by Synchronous Obsolescence
AbstractCollection management in libraries should be conducted on the basis of analyses of circulation data. In addition to the number of times a book is loaned out, the change in the number of loans over time can be a useful measure for managing books. In this study, we investigate the relationship between diachronous obsolescence (that is, the change in use over time) and synchronous obsolescence (that is, the distribution of use over the elapsed time from accession, for a relatively short period). We evaluate three algorithms based on the two types of obsolescence, in order to predict future book use from past use information. We apply these algorithms to actual circulation data from a university library and investigate prediction accuracy. The results show that the synchronous obsolescence-based algorithm can predict future book use more accurately than the diachronous obsolescence-based algorithms, especially for information recorded over a relatively short period
Direct comparison of the tsunami-generated magnetic field with sea level change for the 2009 Samoa and 2010 Chile tsunamis
This is the dataset for the paper of
“Direct comparison of the tsunami-generated magnetic field with sea level change for the 2009 Samoa and 2010 Chile tsunamis”
in Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth.
This dataset includes three zips:
1. Processed Observation Tsunami Data
-- In this zip, there have the observation tsunami magnetic field and sea level change data of 2009 Samoa and 2010 Chile earthquakes which extracted from the data of the TIARES experiment (Suetsugu et al., 2012).
2. Simulated Tsunami Data
-- This is the simulated tsunami sea level change and magnetic field of 2009 Samoa and 2010 Chile earthquakes. The tsunami sea level was simulated by JAGURSv5.2 (Baba et al., 2017) and the tsunami magnetic field was simulated by TMTGEMv1.1 (Minami et al., 2017).
3. Converted Tsunami Sea Level Change
-- The converted sea level changes were calculated by the 2-D analytical solution of tsunami magnetic field (Minami et al., 2021) using the filtered tsunami magnetic vertical component Bz
Relations among affect, abstinence motivation and confidence, and daily lapse risk among smokers trying to quit
Aims: This study prospectively tested the hypothesis that changes in momentary affect, abstinence motivation, and confidence would predict lapse risk over the next 12-48 hours using Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) data from smokers attempting to quit smoking. The moderating effects of high-risk contexts on relations between cognitions (motivation and confidence) and lapse risk were also tested. Method: 79 adult, daily smokers recorded their momentary affect, motivation to quit, abstinence confidence, and smoking behaviors in near real time with multiple EMA reports using electronic diaries post-quit. Results: Multilevel models indicated that increases in negative affect predicted greater lapse risk up to 12 hours, but not 24 hours later. Neither positive nor negative affect had significant effects on subsequent cognitions. High levels of motivation appeared to reduce increases in lapse risk that occur over hours. Momentary increases in confidence predicted greater lapse risk over 12 hours in high-risk situations, but not in the absence of potent smoking triggers. Conclusion: Momentary changes in negative affect, motivation, and confidence, during a quit attempt all had short-term effects on smoking lapse. Negative affect had short-lived effects on lapse risk, whereas high levels of motivation protected against the risk of lapsing that accumulates over hours. Contrary to expectations, an acute increase in confidence may increase vulnerability to lapse in the context of potent smoking triggers. Relations observed among affect, cognitions, and lapse seem to depend critically on the timing of assessments and the contexts in which the assessments occur.Ph.
