Dal laboratorio di Franca Brambilla Ageno. Annotazioni per il metodo e una corrispondenza con Sebastiano Timpanaro

    No full text
This article considers a few Franca Brambilla Ageno’s annotated books now in the Library of the Università Cattolica in Brescia in order to delineate some aspects of her method in textual criticism and in the analysis of ancient Italian language. Her notes to Giovanni Boccaccio’s ‘Decameron’, Franco Sacchetti’s ‘Trecentonovelle’, Antonio da Ferrara’s ‘Rime’ are taken into account, and a planned but never achieved second edition of Iacopone da Todi’s ‘Laude’ is described. Some manuscript notes also demonstrate that she was preparing a third edition of her handbook to textual criticism, which was never printed; and an exchange of letters in 1975 between her and Sebastiano Timpanaro concerning philological matters is published in the Appendix

Brain evolution, language, and psychopathology in schizophrenia

    No full text
This book provides a comprehensive review of new developments in the study of language processing and related neural networks in schizophrenia by addressing the complex link between psychopathology, language and evolution at different levels of analysis. Psychopathological symptoms in schizophrenia are mainly characterized by thought and language disorders, which are strictly intertwined. In particular, language is the distinctive dimension of human beings and is ontologically related to brain development. Although normal at the levels of segmental phonology and morphological organization, the speech of patients suffering from schizophrenia is often characterized by flattened intonation and word-finding difficulties. Furthermore, research suggests that the superior temporal gyrus and specific prefrontal areas which support language in humans are altered in people with schizophrenia. Brambilla and Marini bring together international contributors to explore the link between brain evolution and the psychopathological features of schizophrenia, with a focus on language and its neural underpinnings. Divided into three sections the book covers: • brain evolution and language phylogenesis; • brain abnormalities in schizophrenia; • psychopathology and schizophrenia. This theoretical approach will appeal to professionals including clinical psychologists, cognitive neuroscientists, neuropsychiatrists, neuropsychologists, neurolinguists, and researchers considering the links between brain evolution, language and psychopathology in schizophrenia

Open Room. Flessibilità e Prefabbricazione nelle Architetture per la Salute del Futuro

Background. Several scholars have emphasized hospital obsolescence in relation to social, technological and medical advancements. Several attempts have been made in the history of architecture with approaches in flexibility, demonstrating their weaknesses of rigid and expensive results. An effective strategy to deal with constant surface flexibility, applied to healthcare facilities is the Open Building (OB). Such new organizational paradigm is focused on Primary (structure), Secondary (components) and Tertiary (equipment) systems. Objectives, purpose and aim. Starting from the OB concept, the aim is to define a conceptual design of a prefabricated room for healing environments, called Open Room (OR). Methods and Results. A deep analysis of the scientific literature and case studies allowed to define all the human and technological needs for each hospital environmental unit. The application of OB approach to the OR permitted to define Primary, Secondary and Tertiary systems at the micro-scale of the environmental unit. The primary consists in the structure that hosts the open rooms, the secondary into a prefabricated module with all the possible technologies necessary for hospital environments, the tertiary as the finishing materials and furniture. The paper dedicates particular attention to the Tertiary System, that is the layer perceived by users. Conclusions. The solution addresses qualitative and strategic issues, showing the possibility of reducing cost and adding value to future healthcare environments. A rapid construction system provides flexible, safe and customizable environments, enhancing the patient/client experience within a controlled and protected healing process

Tra filologia e storia della lingua italiana. Per Franca Brambilla Ageno

The book examines the studies of the eminent philologist and historian of Italian language Franca Brambilla Ageno (1913-1995) 100 years after her birth. Attention is devoted to her critical editions of Dante’s and Boccaccio’s literary works as well as to her annotated books, now in the Library of the Università Cattolica in Brescia. New items are added to her bibliography and a previously unpublished presentation by Domenico De Robertis of her edition of Dante’s ‘Convivio’ finds place in the Appendix

Big Business Performance in Twentieth-Century Italy

    No full text
This chapter provides an assessment of the strategies, structures, and performances of the largest Italian corporations during the twentieth century. The study includes manufacturing activities, utilities, and services, and employs a multifactorial definition of performance, of both a qualitative and a quantitative nature (return on equity and holding return). It provides a contribution to the knowledge of the history of Italian big business in the framework of the comparative studies collected in this book. For this reason, its structure and purposes, and the empirical evidence on which it is based, are slightly different from those of other quantitatively based research on the strategy, structure, and performances of Italian enterprises including state capitalism and family business

A Model-Based Method for Seamless Web and Mobile Experience

Consumer-centered software applications nowadays are required to be available both as mobile and desktop versions. However, the app design is frequently made only for one of the two (i.e., mobile first or web first) while missing an appropriate design for the other (which, in turn, simply mimics the interaction of the first one). This results into poor quality of the interaction on one or the other platform. Current solutions would require different designs, to be realized through different design methods and tools, and that may require to double development and maintenance costs. In order to mitigate such an issue, this paper proposes a novel approach that supports the design of both web and mobile applications at once. Starting from a unique requirement and business specification, where web- and mobile-specific aspects are captured through tagging, we derive a platformindependent design of the system specified in IFML. This model is subsequently refined and detailed for the two platforms, and used to automatically generate both the web and mobile versions. If more precise interactions are needed for the mobile part, a blending with MobML, a mobile-specific modeling language, is devised. Full traceability of the relations between artifacts is granted
