Small Object Detection in Agriculture:A Case Study on Durian Orchards Using EN-YOLO and Thermal Fusion

    No full text
Durian is a major tropical crop in Southeast Asia, but its yield and quality are severely impacted by a range of pests and diseases. Manual inspection remains the dominant detection method but suffers from high labor intensity, low accuracy, and difficulty in scaling. To address these challenges, this paper proposes EN-YOLO, a novel enhanced YOLO-based deep learning model that integrates the EfficientNet backbone and multimodal attention mechanisms for precise detection of durian pests and diseases. The model removes redundant feature layers and introduces a large-span residual edge to preserve key spatial information. Furthermore, a multimodal input strategy—incorporating RGB, near-infrared and thermal imaging—is used to enhance robustness under variable lighting and occlusion. Experimental results on real orchard datasets demonstrate that EN-YOLO outperforms YOLOv8 (You Only Look Once version 8), YOLOv5-EB (You Only Look Once version 5—Efficient Backbone), and Fieldsentinel-YOLO in detection accuracy, generalization, and small-object recognition. It achieves a 95.3% counting accuracy and shows superior performance in ablation and cross-scene tests. The proposed system also supports real-time drone deployment and integrates an expert knowledge base for intelligent decision support. This work provides an efficient, interpretable, and scalable solution for automated pest and disease management in smart agriculture

Time and Textual Functioning at Rachid Mimouni The temporal dimension is a variable as important as space, and it is far from lacking in interest in the work of Rachid Mimouni. In fact, the issue of time considered as a structuring factor of the event representations which punctuate the story (1) is at the very heart of his romantic enterprise. To show how temporality exercises a locating and regulating function in the Mimounian text, we distinguish four temporal aspects to which the author focuses in his writing universe: romantic time, lived time, historical time and social time

In this study, Valérie Lotodé determines how work envisages its receiver, registers him discreetly into the text, and programs its own actualization. She also gives a more human image to an altogether theoretical figure by releasing its sexual and cultural identity. Owing to the fact that Rachid Boudjedra, Algerian author writing in french, creates his novels in a cleaved social and historical context, and that he uses the language of the Other, the analysis of the virtual reception proves extremely pertinent to propose the Maghrebian specificity of his writings, and the cultural duality of their readershipMONTPELLIER-BU Lettres (341722103) / SudocSudocFranceF

Labyrinthian representation of the errance in the maze of the modern world at Rachid Boudjedra

In ideal Topography for a characterized aggression, Rachid Boudjedra represents an illiterate emigrant lost in the maze of the Parisian subway. The reader follows the errance of this emigrant in search of his drop point writing on a bit of paper. At the end of long odyssée, it is found mortally attacked by a group of racists in exit of the subway. Our analysis based on works of Gilbert Durand, Umberto Eco, Deleuze and Guattari, Ethnocritic and urban semiotics, wants to be a description of this allegory of the modern world represented by the Parisian subway. An allegory that the writing that us of labyrinthian practised by the author also represents at the scriptural level

    Memory and Rachid Boudjedra's novels

Critics are unanimous regarding the importance of History in Rachid Boudjedra's work. Based on narratology and especially on the performative theory of John Langshow Austin, the present study tries to enlighten the fact that the construction of his novels aims to bring out history of Algeria and of the Arab world while distinguishing itself from an historian work. Without stopping at the mere mention of historical events, History in Boudjedra fictional writings introduces them as individual memory. This posture leads this author to manipulate historical facts and texts and thus to blur the line between fiction and history. This approach is, for the author, an act of appropriation of a History dispossessed by colonialism and then overshadowed by the Algerian authorities. The writer thus contributes to the reinvention, made necessary by the acculturation resulting from the colonial period, of writing in Algeria

New Record and Predatory Activity of Hyperaspis Campestris (Herbst 1783) (Coleoptera : Coccinellidae) on Dactylopius Opuntiae (HEMIPTERA: DACTYLOPIIDAE) in Morocco

The Opuntia cochineal scale Dactylopius opuntiae (Cockerell) (Hemiptera: Dacty lopiidae) causes severe damage to prickly pear (Opuntia sp.). This cochineal was first detected in Morocco in fall 2014 during sampling in the cactus crop in the Sidi Bennour region. In an attempt to find natural enemies that have a potential to be used as biological control agents, a team of researchers have conducted surveys in cactus production areas. In July of 2017, an unidentified coccinellid species was observed feeding actively on D. opuntiaein the Zemamra locality (Sidi Bennour, Morocco). The aim of this paper is to report the identification of this coccinellid and to confirm that D. opuntiae can be a prey of this newly recorded species. The coccinellid was identified as Hyper aspis campestris (Herbst, 1783). Under laboratory conditions, feeding habits were studied, and it was confirmed that adults of H. campestris can feed on both first and second instar of D. opuntiae. Preliminary trials showed that one adult of H. campestris consumed an average of 10 and 7.5 larvae of first and second larval instars of D. opuntiae in 24h, respectively. This is the first record of H. campestris as a biological control agent of D. opuntiae. This finding can be considered as part of an IPM program to control the wild cochineal cactus scale and reduce the pesticides used on this crop

The prickly pear cochineal Dactylopius opuntiae Cockerell (Hemiptera: Dactylopiidae) is a serious pest that causes severe damage to prickly pear cactus species of the genus Opuntia. Before its introduction to Morocco no control methods were available for use against this pest. The current paper presents the results of the use for the first time of the mealybug destroyer Cryptolaemus montrouzieri Mulsant (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) and the biopesticide D-limonene to control D. opuntiae. The efficacy of the biopesticide was evaluated under field conditions. Corrected female mortality rates were >82% 6 days after application of D-limonene at 60 ppm. The greatest mortality rates 6 days after treatment were 98% and 99% at 120 and 150 ppm, respectively. The data analysis showed that there was no significant difference between the different doses 6 or 13 days after treatment. The LD50 recorded was 33 ppm. In terms of biological control, the use of Cryptolaemus montrouzieri significantly reduced the cochineal scale population by 92% 77 days after release. This effect was maintained until 99 days after release of C. montrouzieri, and then the rate of population reduction declined to the level observed 64 days after release (66%). These results suggest that C. montrouzieri has the potential to suppress D. opuntiae populations to an acceptable level and reduce the damage caused by this cochineal
