La città nei manuali di pianificazione strategica
This work begins its considerations stressing the importance that strategic planning has assumed among scientific community and politicians as an innovative tool in urban government construction. Moreover, most frequently scientists, public administrators and politicians put together their experiences building a ‘community of practice’. Available studies have speeded up a systematic knowledge flown in manual book production, written not only to give some guide lines to build strategic plans but to reform the fragmented action logic; in this work the author makes a reconnaissance of these principal Italian manuals, trying to underline how they can reduce urban construction processes complexity, making them a technical activity and a skill
Immagini di città. Processi spaziali e interpretazioni sociologiche
In the world, the urban area continues to transform itself and is intolerant of any attempts of a precise definition. Consequently it is essential for institutions and citizens wonder about his multiple identities and functions. The book addresses some of the most important urban sociological theories with the intent to bring out the idea of the city implicit in all of them. The author highlights the most significant new interpretations of the various theories, stressing the importance and limitations that can be recognized in each approach. Starting from the idea more widespread and long-lived of the "city as an organism" - dating back to the research of Robert Park and the Chicago School of the twenties - analyzing the return of interest in studies of Max Weber and those of Henri Lefebvre and Marxist theories of urban, together with objections to these models, up to lead the impacts of postmodern theories and currents that arise in opposition to the ideas most successful
(Un)happy degrowth in the Italian Northeast: Social Consequences after Thirty Years of The Second Industrial Divide
For nearly forty years, until the advent of the recent major world recession, the development model of the Italian Northeast was considered by worldwide scholars as a best practice of horizontal integration: an ideal type of flexible production, typical of the radical modernity. However, following the theoretical perspective that any discontinuity creates new opportunities, but also social consequences and unexpected effects, it can be seen that, in the face of economic success, some critical issues concerning daily life and social relations emerges in the Northeast. These are issues of some importance which, however, have not yet been adequately studied and, perhaps, even understood. As a partial compensation of this gap and as a way to fill the lack of specific knowledge about it, over the last ten to fifteen years has come to the attention a heterogeneous corpus of novels and films that have placed in the center of their narration the Northeast with the its people, their relationships and their vicissitudes and residential and industrial landscapes, both (people and places) deeply affected by the mode of production in recent years.
In their diversity, these productions dig into the Northeast of recent decades and share many traits of social reality slipped into existential discomfort. Faced with these testimonies, one would have to say that, for the Northeast, one of the main perverse effects of the economic well-being achieved is represented by the inverse correlation between hard work, income and individual happiness. The argument that we are to support here is that this effect is perceptible by putting the daily lives of people at the center of attention, dissociating them, for once, by their identity as entrepreneurs.
For writers and directors, the tangible manifestations of discomfort in the Northeast are traced to the loss of the sense of existential continuity with their own traditions, the spread of anxiety and the impoverishment of interpersonal relationships, the retirement into the private sphere, in the banality of the affections , in excesses and sexual commercialization, the spread of 'international tertiary' of organized crime, drawn from the El Dorado of easy enrichment, by the work off the books or by exploitation. All of these symptoms have been lived and represented within a scattered scene in the dispersal of social and spatial relationships: a vast existential self-aggregation sprawl dotted by ubiquitous surveillance devices. So much negativity needs to be understood. One way to do this is to try to understand how the Northwest recurring image has been generated and how the Northeast image has changed over time
La politica economica urbana
The purpose of this book is to explain how – in a global world – the local societies could play an important role in the economic issues of the territories and to try to understand why some cities succeed, also in time of world recession, to withstand and to effectively react to the speculative waves that get depressed on the world markets, while others assist impotent to the inevitable erosion of his own productive base.
The presupposition that drives the writing of this book is the recognition that, in a world that is done more and more conformed, the engineering of the local politics represents a factor of great importance for the development or for the economic decline
Questioni Urbane. Pluralismo e governance nelle città
From the classic question: "Who governs?" which animated for at least two decades, the debate between the different currents of urban sociology (derived from elitist, pluralist and neo-Marxist), the volume is dedicated, in the first part, some of main approaches to the founding of the discipline. In particular, it highlights the growing importance of cities as priority targets for sociological research, by which to measure the regulatory processes and the interactions between social actors.
In the second part, the book shows some recent developments in the disciplinary debate. Among these, particular interest are those who consider the city not only as a methodological optimal areas for the development of social analysis, but, rather, pay specific attention to the mechanisms of government and social regulation built around the processes of transformation of urban space. In this case, the classic question: "Who governs?" it joins with another, equally important, "to do what?
Using as ground of investigation the 'creative quarters' that proliferate in the city and taking in the background literature hottest topic, the essay uses some of the teachings of Henri Lefebvre by an approach of urban political economy, with the aim of demonstrating that the 'creative quarters' can be considered not only as a spontaneous potpourri of urban buildings, courtyards, streets and a dense network of social and economic relations, but also as a land subject to the interests of the major social forces, economic and policies. From the minutes of two 'creative quarters' in Milan emerges a precise specialization and a functional diversification of the urban organization that have become an instrument through which the developer can exert a significant influence on the spatial transformation of cities
